One more pain in the a** Q.?

How long does the effect of clonidine last, because I just made a apt. w/my dr for tomarrow and told them everything in a nutshell so I can get a script...I just don't want to take one B4 I go in and have my BP be ok.

YES...Blood pressure goes up during w/d's, even tapering for me my blood pressure went up..i have read where that is what causes alot of the goose bumps, sweats, then cold...that is why clonodine works so well, because it is presribed for high blood pressure..

Eight weeks ago I came off of 120mg of methadone cold turkey. I decided to do so because I had a 5 day journey to alberta to visit family. I could not do that while being basically strapped to the clinic. Pills used to run my life and now the methadone clinic was. I did not want to b dependant and have anything tie me down or run my life. It really was brutel. Mother thought I should go to hospital afyter fifth day. Wd was intence. Shaking sweating freezing acheing all at same time. Couldn't get to excited or I would vibrate uncontrollably. Somebody brought me some clonidine and it worked pretty immediatly. Cutting symptoms almost in half. Its been two months and am still clean, although I still do not feel normal yet. My sences r crazy. Over acyive I would say. Can smell toooo much. Have allergie symptoms to everything and I have a constant migrane (migraine) over my eyes. I will b seeing dr soon about headaches. Anyway, yes clonidine works in my opinion. I could not have done it without it seriously.

Here's the thing with clonidine-everybody's blood pressure is different.  I have low blood pressure as a rule usually between 96/70 and 110/80 at the highest.  I am on day 4 of detox and taking .1mg of clonidine every 4 hrs.  It has significantly reduced the withdrawals but it's still freaking miserable.  I read alot of studies on clonidine and opiate withdrawal and it's main bonus is reduction in diahrrea and vomiting-it also keeps your blood pressure down when it sky rockets from the stress of detox.  I bought a bp machine and check my pressure atleast 4 times a day.  I detoxed a couple years back cold turkey without the clonidine and it was much, much worst.  Everyone is different but clonidine has been around since the 50's and has few side effects and zero addictive properties.  Hope this helps.  Good luck and best wishes.
