Opiate Overdose after effects

I overdosed on heroin about 6 months ago, (and have been clean ever since thank god.)  I know I damaged my brain somewhat because immediately after my coordination was off, thinking was slowed, and my ears rang.  Everything has returned back to normal except my ears.  I still hear a slight ringing in my left ear.  Just wondering if anyone has had a similair experience, or knows if it'll ever go away.  It's just plain annoying, but it is a good reminder sometimes of where my priorities need to be.

I overdosed on jun, 27th 2010 and my ears have been ringing ever since. Constantly, I never get a break unless i fall asleep, even then tho i can only sleep like maybe 4-5 hours a night. IDK if its from the ringing in my ears or what but yeah anyways, I'm struggling with it every day it gets really really annoying especially at nights. That's when it gets the worst at night time when it should be silent but not for me no, nvr can catch i break I'm sick and tired of it so please tell me if you figured out a way to make yours stop thanx.

Hi!   I`m a recovering opiate and xanax-addict. It sounds like your daughter is in the same situation that I was in. I have cronic backpain and was prescriped fantenyl patches that I use to suck out and 3 different opiates that I use to chew up and put under my tongue (exsess amounds) or sniff. This addiction began as a controlled addiction ( thru doctors ) and rather quickly became uncontrollable. then I overdosed and almost died. My family did not realize that I was an addict and today they still are in denial. Today I "know" that nobody could have helped me but myself. I made telephonecalls & admitted myself to a rehab-center. It was and still is hard to commit myself to sobriety, but it is mine and I am proud of what I have acomplished in the past few months. everyday is a different kind of struggle yet I know I have to do this for myself or i`ll die.
Hon`, the way I see this is that your daughter needs to wake up and see that she is not just putting her own life at risk but what`s worse her childrens lifes too. She can make a choice------your grandchildren can not. "YOU" will have to make that choice for these innocent babies. Give your daughter an ultimatum. If that does not work, please, please involve the law. So now the ball is in your court. 1 out of the top 3 rehab facillities in america is called the "Rashid Ameel addiction-recovery-center" in Peoria ILLinois. I was lucky to have found help there. They use the holistic-approach in this clinic. I truly wish you success in making the right step.

She has had shoulder surgery in the past and has a hernia she has to have taken care of, but she has been taken pills for a long time.  She hid her last pregancy from her doc so he wouldnt cut her off.  She has always had to "use" something...She doesnt seem to be very comfortable in her own skin.

I have a daughter that is on Fentanyl and I has percocette for break through pain.  She is seeing a pain management doctor who has her on more drugs than she was on before she started the pain management. She has also added alcohol to the mix.. My daughter is flying high.. I am worried and I am not quite sure what to do.  She is married with an addict husband and 3 small children.

this post looks old but i just overdosed on methadone and yes,n rockferdoxy, idiot, opiates can damage the brain if they depress your cns enough to cause respiratory failure and therefore cut off oxgen supplies to your brian causing cellular damage.

i od-ed in july and was in the hospital for several weeks. i was intubated or put on a respirator, and while in a coma had seizures and a heart attack. my pancreas temporarily stopped making insulin and i had to be given injection, i was on a feeding tube and had a iv in juglar. when i woke up i couldn't walk, from which i graduated to walker and then legs. my upper right arm is permanently numb but underneath it hurts b/c a muscle is stuck in the contracted position. my left had has nerve damage resulting in severe pain and stiffness, i am permanently partially deaf in both ears left being worse and have very loud ringing that only gets worse and is driving me insane! i had temporary amnesia and didn't know why i was in the hospital and thought the staff was trying to kill me.

anyway, while theraputic doses of narcotic substances (narcotic meaning opiate and synthetic opiate may not damage you, if you od and your cns system shuts down, you can suffer from brain damage due to lack of oxygen.

don't listen to rockferdoxy who is apparently an idiot and likely will od someday.

As far as I know opiates do not damage the brain. I'm coming off worse than heroin and my ears still ring constantly. good job on six months!!!! from what info. I got it can take up to a year for symptoms to go away. Best is to ask your doc. Opiates cause very little damage to the body that's why docs. prescribe such large amounts. I think I was the highest amount of oxy + fentanyl then anyone can be on and It was not enough. so the ring seems pretty normal to me.
