ya you need to taper!! is there anyone who could help you i know i couldnt taper mysefe i was not strong enough. but if you have someone who could hold your pills and give them to to when you need then ( on a taper) it will be best!
Hello, I want to tell you to get a different doctor. Who ever had you on all those pain meds at the same time is completely insane. You are not going to like what I am going to say. You are going to have withdrawls no matter what. Especially with the amount of opiates you are on. Please don't stop cold turkey that would be very dangerous. You will need some help with the tapering. Don't let them put you on methodone. That is just trading one addiction for another. You can do this. You asked can you still take the pain pills just for the pain and not be addicted to them. The answer is no. I have tried it for years and tried and tried it. Somehow someway you are going to have to learn to deal with the pain and look for other alternatives. They are out there. I was in a head on collision years ago and it destroyed my left knee and femur. Many surgeries later and many different pain pills later the facts are still the same. Once you become addicted you never stop being addicted. Yes you can be a recovery addict, but you are still an addict. I have been clean now 15 months. I have a great support group and I now live my life by this saying. I will be smart today and not strong. I truly wish I could take your pain away and it would be that easy. Reality is you will have to deal with your chronic pain. I know you can do it. I never thought I could. Take one day at a time. Get yourself off the painpills. Exercise will most definitely help you. Hang in there and you can do it.
I was prescribed neurontin for nerve pain which it didn't help for that. I did find it to be helpful during withdrawals. It won't completely take away everything you will be feeling but it did help me some. I didn't have the rls and the twitching associated with withdrawals. I didn't have the creepy crawly feeling or the hot flashes either. It also helped me get a decent nights sleep. About the only symptoms I still had was the stomach issues, lack of energy, and the chills.
Like said above, I would try to taper down some first though. A taper really does help if you have the willpower to do so. I would first talk to your doctor about using it for withdrawals first as he/she should be aware of what you are doing with your medication. Make sure you exercise as this seemed to help me so much. Also try and eat healthy and push the fluids to help speed up the process of withdrawals.
Best of luck and remember that you can make it through this!
Also.. I took my last opiate at 10am this morning.. Im starting to feel the cold/hot sweats already.. What is the Thomas Recipe everyone talks about? Thank You so much.
Thanks everyone.. Im suprised on how many replies I got.. The vicodin started with backpain for years and just last year I was diagnosed with Shingles on the bone, it hurt really bad in the beginning but the meds helped, now Vicodin is like a asprin to me, I take it to take it but it doesnt help, its narco 10-325, 40mg oxy, and 4mg of hydromorphs.. I still have lots of pain but I want to not be addicted to them.. Is that possible? Sometimes a few a day and run out early and start the withdrawls but get my script and feel better, so I'm experienced w/d but I want to not be sick when Im without them if I still take them for pain... Is that possible?.. Thanks everyone.. I'll check back in a bit,,
hi there....you will have wds regardless of tapering or quitting cold turkey...i m one who could never taper....but your wds might be less severe if you taper...the way i thought was to just quit ct....get it over in a week or so...the wds sound more scary than they are...we all get through it....you just can t cave in and take one to feel better...it s like a bad flu and for myself sleep was the last to return but it did...i sleep great now...stay strong and decide what is right for you...taper or ct?,,,,good luck and keep posting...maria
I agree with the people above who suggested that you taper, go off one drug at a time, and or talk seriously with a doctor about the problem. You have been on too many different drugs for too long to go ct easily on your own. It is hard to taper on your own; takes much control and will power. What you are trying to do is very difficult the way you are doing it. HOWEVER, we all know what is the best way for us and sometimes the hard way is the only way. Seek out help--AA? NA? local mental health clinics? A good sponsor is tremendous support during wd. This is possible. I have done it years ago, but had lots of help.
Found the paperwork. They had me on: Catapress/clonidine, Diphenoxylate w/Atropine for diarrhea and Promethazine for nausea. This won't work to completely ease your w/d but will make you more comfortable. Obviously, it would work best if you taper your meds to almost nothing before starting them but sometimes we take more of our pain meds and have to wait until the due date to fill them again and then your going to have a hard time because that means you spiked your meds and now have to drop to nothing. Good luck.
I have done that BP-Catapress Patch before and theeagle is right, it helps with sleep. It is supposed to help with the goose bumps/chills as well. It made me very fatigued. Also, the nausea meds also helped to calm me down a bit as well, I can't remember the name though, sorry.
The nuerontin will not help much at all in your situation........the prescribing doc should be able to fix you up wiith a catapress patch and phenargan and vistoril to help with the sleep and stomach problems and restless legs of withdrawal.............
BTW, I am also on Neurontin and have been for years but my belief is that you are taking far too many diff. pain meds and strong ones at that, for the Neurontin to be of much help. HOT showers are good and feel great but I feel as though you may have a pretty unsafe time if you quit all at the same time.
I was taking 420mg of OXY for pain through a doctor for almost 3 years (less mg before that) and I wanted off the OXY to see how much of my pain was related to the OXY vs. "real pain" and was tired of the process, physical addiction etc. I have been on Suboxone for 10 days now and feel pretty good. Not much withdrawals during the transition. I have a headache and am dizzy and don't plan on being on SUB for too long. I tried to do it without it and even with the meds the doctor RX for me to ease w/d, my brain wasn't right. I would suggest talking to your doc about your desire to get off of what you are on and ask for his help. If you don't want to do that, you could see a SUB doc, however, if your going to keep getting the other pain meds from your reg. doc, you will be running in circles for a while going on/off SUB/Pain Meds because you can't use your pain meds while on SUB. Check out more threads on here, there is a lot of great info to help you. Good luck.
How much and how often are you taking each one?
how long have you been off the meds and did you stop them all at once? I am off hydro's 5th day now and I see the light at the end of the tunnell now, day 3 is the worst, then it really does get better. Listen to these people in here because they really helped me. Hot baths, walking, eating and push the water all helped. You can do this!
You need to taper down. You are on to many types of pills to do it ct. Dont no what your doses are tho, that will be a big factor. I would recommend quiting 1 med at a time by taperring. You can go to your doc and between the 2 of you you can work out a taper schedule.
