I am a wife and a mother of 4 and two nephews that have lived w/me for 2 yrs.  I started taking vicodine 2 yrs ago.  I was first introduced to pain pills after having my children but to be honest when I started taking vicodin is was purely for the high of it.  I've been taking 4 1000mg norcos everyday for almost 2 yrs.  I am trying to stop.  I didn't realize I would become addicted by taking only 3 or 4 per day and thought I was not doing much different than people who like smoking week but now I've come to realize there is a physical addiction to them.  I'm going on my second day without and having bad restless leg and arm, headaches, neck aches and irritability.  No nausia or diareah and I've been taking xanax to help me sleep.  I don't want to take anymore but from what I'm reading you have to wheen yourself off of this because the withdrawl can be dangerous and I have to take care of these six kids I have.  I REALLY WANT TO STOP!  I mean cold turkey but I can't function.  Does anyone have any advice?

Sounds like a plan. Strength in numbers. I am probably going to call it a night soon but feel free to send me a message and I promise to respond sometime tomorrow but it may not be until after work. Hang in there!

Hang in there. It will get better - that's what I've been telling myself all day. I am on day 3 off hydrocodone. I had about 35 days clean last spring after about a three year or more addiction. Relapsed after having an injured shoulder and surgery to fix it. About 6 weeks after surgery, I realized I was back to taking the pills for the euphoric feeling rather than for pain. I just realized the other day that I need to stop before it gets more out of hand. I know it's possible b/c I have done it before and thousands have done it before us - and lived through it but it is difficult at times.

What's so great abou this site is that you can find people in similar situations to your own and know that they can identify and understand what you're going through. We need to use each other for support. So, keep reaching out. Feel free to PM me anytime. Sounds like we're at about the same stage so let's get through this together!

Be thankful you realized what this stuff was doing to you in time to avoid the really hard W/D's --- can you imagine what doing this would be like if you were taking over 140 mg/day of Oxy for 14 years and then experiencing the W/D's??   He!! hath no furry like a heavy Opiate addiction and going Cold Turkey off of it.  You will suffer some but it is very doable -- just tell folks you have the flu for a few days and it will be over with.  If you are inclined to be addicted (of course you are) then the best thing you can do is cut off your supply so this doesn't  happen to you again.  I had to go and tell my dr - otherwise I would just have started back up again and all of the suffering would have been for naught. All the best.

Try to hang in there. Tomorrow will probably be the worst day, then you'll start feeling better. After youre clean for a while, dont go back. JUST ONE WILL GET YOU HOOKED AGAIN. Then you'll be even sicker the next time you try to quit. I agree with Cathy, check the health pages for tips. The vitamins really help. Hot baths help too. And do whatever you can to stay busy and keep your mind from hurting. Keep posting, it helps. Good luck and stay strong.

I am on my 24th hour of not having any oxycodone after being on them on and off for 4 years with a lapse of a year of nothing in between. I feel your pain as Im sure others do as well. Mine was for legit reasons and just turned into plain old stupidity, the worst kind there is. I have felt like **** all day, like you I have not had the diarrhea or nausia, and also have not had the restless leg, but I know that is coming up, and I dont look forward to it, none of it.  I did it once before and could kick myself in the butt for doing it again, but pain prompted it and the rest is history. You have made it two days which is a huge accomplishment, we both know how easy it would be to take the pain all away, but we are smarter than that I hope as that is why we are trying to stop. God bless us both for doing this and everyone else who has gone down this hellish path. I know by later tonight or tomorrow night i wont be able to sleep and have the RLS like worms in my skin. I have already soaked in the tub three times and have just been lying in bed, Except for the four times I went out and lifted weights for five minutes each time, Wow, my energy level is way down. I know what to expect but hate expecting it. Tomorrow will be day three for you so please try and keep it up Katrina you are getting close, Dont make these two days for naught, but it is easier said than done. Soak in the tub and you will be amazed at how the body feels temporarily. YOU REALLY WANT TO STOP and you will. My advice is to keep trucking along ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER and soon you will feel much better.     ZEUSS

unless you have an underlying medical problem going cold turkey wont hurt you and you wont die.  yes you will have all the cassic symptoms that go with withdrawals and it is mighty darned painful in that respect but you wont die.  most ppl cant ween off hdros cuz they simply dont have the willpower.  i could not ween off oxy because if i had i took it.  so i went cold turkey off 240+mgs per day.  you are taking about 40mgs.  you will be fine....you are on day 2 dont give up what you have gained.  you can do this.  look in the health pages on the right for the thomas recipe and the amino protocol those both help with the /wds....and get some out door exercise if at all possible....it helps the muscles....keep on going, dont give up.
