Oxycodone 5-10mg and Pregnancy

I have been perscribed Oxycodone 10 mg six times a day. I cut the pills in half to reduce the tylenol and narcotic intake. I am taking the medication for nerve damage and a brain tumor that causes more nerve pain. As I am pregnant, I cannot handle the brain surgery needed in my condition. I take anywhere from 30 mg to 50 mg per day. I am also 3 months pregnant. How at risk is my fetus of any sort of deformity?

what is the brand name of the drug you are taking? oxycodine can be oxycottin, tylox, percocet?
some opiates can be considered safer than others to fetus, i have never lived with your condition so i can not speculate on level of pain
after reading this post i did look at medical journals, topics "pain from brain tumor" this is what i found repeatedly
"""34. PAIN MEDICATIONS

Headaches caused by excess swelling is usually the most serious pain which patients endure. Decadron will reduce this pain, especially in doses of 16 mg a day or more. In the hospital decadron is sometimes given intravenously. Tylenol 3 (codeine) is a mildly effective pain reliever, while Vicodin is used if the pain is more severe. Vicodin is considered a narcotic so doctors are reluctant to let patients use it for a long period of time. In the hospital, morphine is the strongest pain reliever available. In extreme cases a morphine pump is inserted into the patient and a constant flow of the drug is readily available. Usually a port is inserted somewhere in the chest area for easy access. For nausea caused by chemo, Zofran is a commonly prescribed drug which has had great success"""

many articles suggest that this maybe a life long illness and in most situations narcotics are not given as long term treatment options,,,so this informations leads me to believe that you maybe able to live without narcotics, but i will tell you that a mild opiate like tyleno 3 or darvocet is approved treatment for pregnant pain patients while the non-narcotic pain meds are not, you are not alone, no one here will bash you, just give you opinion or experience, i carried 2 children through illness and made it without narcotics, but my first child i took an anti-depressant that is approved for pregnant pain patients and my child did have developmental delays, you can do what you want with that info., your doctor knows you are taking these meds, so your delivery crew will be prepared
read this article i stole from my other forum, it will let you know treatment options once your baby is born,  like lisacave said, do not start reading info and get scared, hospitals are equiped to handle your situation, and you are doing the best you can to survive, this is a paragraph from the link i posted

"""I do think babies born to mothers using legal prescription meds as they were prescribed fare better in general, but that has more to do with prenatal care and lifestyle than the type of med. I've worked with lots of drug babies born to mothers with diseases like sickle cell who used narcotics""""

i have heard different opinions from the medical community about breastfeeding and newborn opiate wd
this doctor is agaisnt taking opiates while breastfeeding
but i know several women who were told by their doctor to breastfeed because it helps the baby with wd symptoms
i do encourage you to look up information, but keep in mind that your doctor knows your medical history better than we do, i hope this helps, please remember that you are not alone!!! plenty of people have been pregnant while dealing with a life threatening illness, myself included, do the best you can and do not beat yourself up!!!

I have been told by the nurse on here that you can't miscarry. It can cause stress which isn't great, but you just have to take care of yourself. I guess everyone is different though. Talk to your drs, they will give you the best advice.

Your baby is not at risk of deformity, there is the chance that he\she will be born and have to go through w\d. Make sure that before delivery, you talk with your pediatrician so they will know and be able to help the baby if needed,,, be careful with the weaning though because you can miscarry that way,, talk with your doctor about a good SLOW wean if it's something you want to do...

Believe it or not there are things worse than deformities and one is definitly opiate addiction....For me....I would be asking what are the chances of the baby having withdrawls once born.  Very hard on adults! I know this from experience. I will pray for u and your unborn child. Gods gotcha!

THis girl ligitimately needs these meds and her drs gave them to her, if anyone gets on here and scares or bashes her, I think it is wrong.

No sweetie, no deformity. Just make sure your drs know all that is going on and keep up with them about everything. You just don't want to run the risk of having the baby addicted. So hopefully, they plan on weaning you off before the baby comes. Good luck.
