Oxycodone and Alcohol? Help!

Hello,
I have been taking Ocycodone for about a year (Immediate Release 15mg/day).  (It does not have anything in it; just straight oxycodone).

My doc prescribes me the 30mg tablets but I cut them in half and just take 1/2 pill in the morning.

I am going to Las Vegas on Friday this week (in 4 days).  I took the 1/2 pill this morning.

I want to drink in Vegas on Friday.

How many days do I have to be off of the oxycodone in order to drink?  I know about all the warnings about mixing alcohol with oxycodone and I am not going to do that.  but how many days do I need to be off of the oxycodone in order to drink?

If I don't take anymore for the next 4 days, will I be ok to drink alcohol on Friday?

Thanks!!!

Bill Stanley

I have been taking Oxy now for the past 2 years. There have been a couple of times that I ran out early (by more than a week) and had to deal with the DTs.  They usually peake at day 3 and are done with by day 6 (for me anyway).  Its not just the shakes, you get the sweats, nasuea, diarreah, loss of appetite and exhaustion.

Thanks to everyone for your info.

I was on it for my back for the past year but in the last 2 months, it is much better.  I tried to stop about a month ago but i started to get the shakes.

I don't want to tell my doc that my back is much better just yet.  I want to stop it myself first and make sure my back doesn't hurt.  When I stop for a day or 2, it doesn't hurt...but I always start back up around the 3rd day.

If I go cold turkey, how many days will I have to put up with the shakes?  Will they go away?  How long?

Thanks!

Since you are on immediate release Oxycodone, it has a much shorter half life than other preparations of that medicine.  You will be able to drink safely by 36 hours after your last dose.
A word to the wise: Take your medicine with you.  Since you have been taking it for a year, you might have a physical dependence meaning that you could experience withdrawals when you stop.  If that happens, forget the alcohol and take the medicine the way it is prescribed.

Hi stanleybill, the short answer is yes.The chemical term (Cinergistic) is when we say take a combination of two or more drugs and receive not a double dose, but maybe 5times as much, thats why it is not recommended we add alcohol and pills together.Anyway why are you using pain-meds in the first place, are they as prescribed or for the high.Be careful in the future,You dont want to (Overdose) Goodluck john
