Oxycodone verses hydrocodone

My friend who quit hydros with me has been prescribed tylox for pain....she said she does not get a buzz from them and we thought originally they were codeine...i googled it and it is 5 mg of oxycodone with tylenol in it as well...we are both nurses and have given tylox out to patients over the years...just never stopped to look up the ingredients although of course we knew it was a narcotic...looking back, i remember having tylox before a long time ago for pain and it just made me sleepy.  so before my addict days if i had a surgery like my neck, i would ask for those as the lortab would have me cleaning the house and stuff and i was supposed to be resting ...i hear on the forum that oxycodone is stronger than hydrocodone so i told her this and to be careful as she needs a pain med right now post fusion to her lumbar region....she is trying to be careful and she is doing a good job ...she had relapsed on alcohol after 5 years sober and just gave that up again as well a few weeks ago,,,,i just do not want to see her get in any more trouble as she gets addicted/abuses everything including lyrica/says it makes her euphoric) and ambien .  she has recently stopped taking so much lyrica and i believe her because i can tell in her voice when she takes it...what is the take on tylox as i dont have much experience with it..?  stregth wise?  even if it does not give her a buzz i think it may be stronger than hydros from what i have heard

i didn't notice a bit of difference in mood with either of them, then again, i only took the oxys for a very short period of time, compared to the hydros....still, everyone (from my doctor and nurse and pharmacist friends to the woman next door who took them after surgery) told me to be careful with the oxys because they're so much more potent than the hydros....didn't have that affect on me.....but everyone is different!

I can only speak from personal experience on how either affected me - but hydrocodone seemed to impart more of a subtle alteration to mood. Oxycodone would have me feeling great and energetic. But that difference is probably just a variation on the prescribed amount taken. I know when I was prescribed hydrocodone for TMJ, the dosage would equivalently be a lot lower than what oxydocone is usually prescribed for. I would think that either one at a certain amount would impart the same overall effects on mood/energy all things being equal.

So, I would bet most of the differences lay with hydrocodone being more marketed (and lower in mg strength effect) for less severe pain than oxycodone, which is marketed for much higher dosage ranges for pain control. Or in other words, the opiates *could* have the same effect on mood given an equivalent amount, they just aren't marketed that way. Just my theory...

you're right on the money....they just don't make 'em like they used to....still love the old stuff like that....my hubby is even MORE adamant about that than i am....he swears it will never ever be the same again....i'm still a 38 special fan though....love zz top....but 38 special was it for me....hubby is always wanting to go to concerts like that....i, like you, most of the time just don't have the "get-up-and-go" to do it like he does (in more ways than one)....maybe in time it'll come back to me though :-)  SO glad to hear you had such a blast...you needed and deserved that :-)

yes, i was given oxycodone after my hysterectomy a year ago....only took it for about 10 days, maybe not even that long....didn't need it for long....i've taken hydrocodone for much longer though to handle different type of chronic pain....didn't notice one bit of difference between the oxys and the hydros (both were same strength, 10/500)....don't get "high" or energy from either one of them though, never have, both oxys AND hydros just make me somewhat drowsy and relaxed...however, yes, if you look them up or talk with doctor or pharmacist (one of my best friends is a pharmacist), they will tell you that oxy is made to be more potent than hydros....hydro is for moderate pain, oxys for severe pain...i, myself, didn't really notice the difference, but that was just me....either way, they are a narcotic and obviously extremely addicting....so just use caution

My personal experience was the tylox 5mg (oxycodone/tylenol) made me sleepy no high like cleaning the house on top of the world whatever....but percocet 10 (again oxycodone 10mgs/tylenol) makes me high a little different than lortab but not so sleepy. It is really strange to me. However, she needs to be SUPER careful!

Yes tylox is stronger that is what they gave me after they removed my gallbladder .It made be sleepy as well. There was a bit of a high ,but I was in alot of pain so I really was not paying attention to it .I just slept alot .I had NO problem stopping it .Your friend does need to be very careful with it .It of coruse is as addicting as the rest of them.
