Oxycontin side effects

by Christy, Oct 09, 1999 12:00AM
I have been taking Oxycontin approx 60 mg a day for the last couple of months for chronic back pain.  I have noticed lately that I feel achy all over, such as muscle weakness, is that a side effect of this drug?  It has just started about 3 weeks ago. I have had great results with this, but am afraid that over a long period of time that I will have some sort of musclular problem of sorts.  Please advise.

I also have been taking Oxycontin (10mg) three times a day over a long period of time and suffer tightness and cramping of muscles primarily in my legs.  The muscles seem to get so tight that efforts to do stretching seem to have little or no effect on releiving the pain.  I believe that I have built a tolerance to the level of my Oxycontin and coedine in general.  This seems to contribute to the overall pain stemming from my original back problem.  My Doctor doesn't seem to believe that I could build any kind of addiction to the oxycontin at this dosage level, and feels the problem is just a normal part of the pain associated with my herniated disk.  I just can't believe that because the aches and pains in my legs are in both legs, whereas the back pain problems are restricted to my left side.  I work and function with a fairly normal life, but the pain from what I think could be tolerance and withdrawal are unbearable.  I'd like nothing more than to hear some suggestions of how to proceed from here.
