Thomas Detox Recipe
PLEASE NOTE: I am not a doctor, simply a long-time Rx opiate junkie who has had many opportunities to develop a way to detox. This is a recipe for at-home self-detox from opiates based on my experience as well as that of many other addicts. It is not intended as professional medical advice. It is always wise to make sure none of the recipe ingredients or procedures conflict with medications you may be taking. Likewise, if you have any medical condition, disease, allergy or any other health issue, consult your doctor before using the recipe. Thanks, Thomas
This recipe is designed for cold turkey opiate detox. It assumes that you can get about 5 to 7 days away from your job or household responsibilities during which you can sleep, veg and act as miserable as you feel. Opiate WD mimics the symptoms of the common flu, so, if you need a smokescreen, hide behind a bad case of the flu.
If you can't take time off to detox, I recommend you follow a taper regimen using your drug of choice or suitable alternate -- the slower the taper, the better.
For the Recipe, You'll need:
1. Valium (or another benzodiazepine such as Klonopin, Librium, Ativan or Xanax). Of these, Valium and Klonopin are best suited for tapering since they come in tablet form. Librium is also an excellent detox benzo, but comes in capsules, making it hard to taper the dose. Ativan or Xanax should only be used if you can't get one of the others.
2. Imodium (immodium) (over the counter, any drug or grocery store).
3. L-Tyrosine (500 mg caps) from the health food store.
4. Strong wide-spectrum mineral supplement with at least 100% RDA of Zinc, Phosphorus, Copper and Magnesium.
5. Vitamin B6 caps.
6. Access to hot baths or a Jacuzzi (or hot showers if that's all that's available).
How to use the recipe:
Begin your detox with regular doses of Valium (or alternate benzo). Start with a dose high enough to produce sleep. Before you use any benzo, make sure you're aware of how often it can be safely taken. Different benzos have different dosing schedules. Taper your Valium dosage down after each day. The goal is to get through day 4, after which the worst WD symptoms will subside. You shouldn't need the Valium after day 4 or 5.
During detox, hit the hot bath or Jacuzzi as often as you need to for muscle aches. Don't underestimate the effectiveness of hot soaks. Spend the entire time, if necessary, in a hot bath. This simple method will alleviate what is for many the worst opiate WD symptom.
Use the Imodium (immodium) aggressively to stop the runs. Take as much as you need, as often as you need it. Don't take it, however, if you don't need it.
At the end of the fourth day, you should be waking up from the Valium and experiencing the beginnings of the opiate WD malaise. Upon rising (empty stomach), take the L-Tyrosine. Try 2000 mgs, and scale up or down, depending on how you feel. You can take up to 4,000 mgs. Take the L-Tyrosine with B6 to help absorption. Wait about one hour before eating breakfast. The L-Tyrosine will give you a surge of physical and mental energy that will help counteract the malaise. You may continue to take it each morning for as long as it helps. If you find it gives you the "coffee jitters," consider lowering the dosage or discontinuing it altogether. Occasionally, L-Tyrosine can cause the runs. Unlike the runs from opiate WD, however, this effect of L-Tyrosine is mild and normally does not return after the first hour. Lowering the dosage may help.
With breakfast, take the mineral supplement.
As soon as you can force yourself to, get some mild exercise such as walking, cycling, swimming, etc. This will be hard at first, but will make you feel considerably better.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have any medical complications, first check with your doctor before detoxing to verify that this regimen is safe for you.
I was looking to see if I was the only person in the world who has this problem this bad. I take about 10, 7.5 Vicodone everyday. I have went 2 days cold turkey, and I don't feel that bad realy? Just don't want to do anything but lie around and watch the boob tube. Woke at midnight last night?? I sthis normal? The sad thing is, I do this alot. I can get the meds, I have multiple percriptions, but I am sick of garding that bottle like it is a million dollars. I don't go anywhere without the (Pills). I planed a cruise this past Dec, and had to make sure I had the pills. This is sick.
As far as not having w/d's bad? I am sure it is because you have it in your mind that you are just plain out done with the bull that comes with the pills.
Now like me...I was scared to no end about not having meds..the wd/s etc. ANd alot of it I do beleive is our minds that do alot to us as well as the drug. I would dwell on it, and I do not know if that was why the w/ds were so bad or if it was just b/c I did not have the meds in my system. Honestly, I think it is both. I think both play a huge part in how we feel w/o those things.
I also would like to say, I envy you for being so headstrong. Like I said that may be why it seems alot easier than alot of us have it. But either way, be thankful for that! B/c they are horrible! Nothing like I have experienced before. I remember saying..I would rather be in labor for 24 hrs, that deal with those w/ds. And I was serious!
You will find alot of great info, tips and support here in this forum. It is phenominal.
Glad to see you here with us, and hope you remain comfortable and get through this completely.
Thank you for your post. I am here all the time, so feel free anytime if you need anything or to talk.
Patti, The THOMAS RECIPE is what I used. I am on Day 17. I abused Methadone, Methadose, Percs, pretty much ANY pill that gave me more superhuman energy. I have 4 kids and a man I adore, a full time job and all their extracurricular activities to take them to. But, my addiction started in an abusive relationship.
You will have to spend some money to take care of yourself doing thr recipe, but did you ever buy off the street pharm. The recipe is cheaper! And much better for you. If you need ANY help...
***@****
I'm here for ANY of you that see this and want to reach out.
Do not be discouraged if I dont reply right away. All the above mentioned things, I still have. Except the abusive relationship and the crutch...;-)
Dopeless Hope Fiend, not Hopeless Dope Fiend.

Well, its has been 72 hours, but still no real problems. I can say that I can't sleep. It is 4:30 am now, and I have been up since 2. I also have been on Xanax for 10 years, and uped my dose. I will start to bring them down today. I do get scared about that! I have went way down on Xanax many times, and it is tough. I keep waiting for the WDS to hit me, but not yet. I am afraid about the refills I have on hydro. One call and 100 pills anytime. This is on my mind more and more, but I will not today!!
I think we all have a reason we do this to ourselves. Me, I lost my career that I spent 25 years building. Just an uneducated guy that worked my way up in a very large company that finaly shut the doors. 70 grand a year, company car, free gas. I was taking the meds all the while though? 50 years old and life dont seem so great. I have a 25 year old addict son, and I have had to endure hardships with him that I wouldn't wish on anyone. Thats the reason for the Xanax. I just want to feel again. You guys proaby know that the pills don't give you that feeling after you have taken them so long. I think I am looking for that feeling they gave me the first 6 months, but that will never come again. More pills, worrying about running out, its all a madness we do to ourselves. When will I star to feel better. I do not have any energy? That is the main thing I can say that I do feel?
