Percocet Withdrawal Question - Help!!!

Hi,
I am a 30 year old male and have been taking Percocet every day (once a day, in the morning), 10mg for about a year.  Only in the morning.  At first it was for my back but I got addicted to them and have been taking them for the 'high' and 'relaxed' feelings.

The high is gone but lately I have been taking it to feel slightly relaxed.  Thank GOD I haven't increased the dosage!

I tried to stop a few days ago.  I stopped for 1 day and I had the shakes.  Not on the outside, but on the inside of my body.  The next day I took another 10mg because I didn't think I could handle the shakes.

Then the next day I skipped it, and the same thing happened.

Now I am back on it every morning.

If I stop cold turkey, how long will the shakes last? The shakes are terrible, but I think I can handle them if it is not too long.

Also, if I switch to 5mg/day, and eventually try to take it every other day, and then every 3rd day, will this help me ween off of it?  Will the shakes go away?  Or do I have to suffer for a few days?

Anyone who can give me any info, please do.  And if you have any suggestions on how to make it easier, please do.

I am going to the Bahamas in 3 weeks and I wanted to try to get off of this stuff before I go down there!

HELP!!

Thanks to every one of you who can give me ANY info.

GOD BLESS,

LEWIE

Thank you all for your help.

One other thing:  My doctor prescribed me Xanax .25mg a month or so ago.  I haven't started taking it yet because I want to stop the percocet first.  (I didn't tell him about the percocet!)

Can I take the Xanax right away, or do I need to stop and get over the withdrawal first?  Will the Xanax help me while I am going through withdrawal?

Thanks!

Yes....jsut start to take half of your dose and keep decreasing....Thank god you don't have a higher amount of MG's you take and trust me....get off it now.... some people take qaudruple the amount you take and are trying to get off.....So....please, taper down and get off now before  you are in a worse situation you are in now....

I am no expert but sounds like you are on such a low dose. I would go cold turkey probably won't take but 2-3 days and you should be out of the bad withdrawl. But missing the feeling will not go away as easy. Good Luck to you and get off them now before it gets worse.

You can try weaning or tapering off but if you really want to stop stock up on three things...
amodium pills for the diarrhea
gator aid to hydrate yourself
Tylenol or some type of PM to help you sleep

and then tough it out for four or five days.....and be done with it......
if your truly addicted then you will need to speak with a addiction counselor or start going to N/A meetings and get your life changed around again......

Something very important that is hard to do is if you have any good friends who use you have to turn your back on them and ignore them like they have the plague........

If you want to stop this is a way..........
