Percocet addiction

by Brian4040, May 05, 2007 12:00AM
I have a question about percocet addiction.  First of all im a pretty big guy, like 6'1 220.  Anyway, i started with 70 percocet 10s.  I have been taking them for 10 days.  Is this long enough to become addicted?  I have taken between 4 and 6 per day.  I have 20 left. I dont want to go through withdrawals.  Will i?  should i "wean" the last 20?  LIke 4 today, 3 the next three days, 2 for 3 days, etc?  Will this help?  Or have i not been taking them long enough addiction.  The reason i ask is i slept for 14 hours straight last night, because i hadnt slept in awhile.  anyway, so i went about 17 hours between pills and kind of felt like ****.  Could that have been coincidence? Or am i slightly addicted already?  Please respond honestly and be helpful.  Thanks!!

I'm not a Dr. so I can only suggest what might help. If you think you may be addicted, you might be able to taper. Personally, if I was at the level you are now, I would c/t and have it over with. Can you talk to your Dr. about this?? I know sometimes that's not a good idea, but some are understanding.
I really know that you should get off of them as quickly as possible.

Take Care.....LS

Unfortunately i didnt get them from my DR so i cant ask.  I got in a car accident, and got these from a friend of mine.  Im sure i could have gotten some from a doc, but i depise going to doctors.  Anyway, it seems 10 days isnt very long, and if i have withdrawal symptons, they should be mild?  Just curious if i should "ween" the last 20 or will that just make it worse cuz then i'll be taking them for a longer period of time.......

do you still need them for pain?? If not just stop.. you will have very  mild discomfort and maybe a hard time sleeping.. shouldn't be a big deal... I only wish I would have stopped taking them after 10 days..  if you are nervous about how you may feel.. take 2 tommorrow. one on monday half of one on tuesday and wednesday and then stop.. you will be fine..

Thanks!  that was helpful.  The pain is there, and will probably be there forever.  The pills do help.  See, i got in a car accident and messed up my neck.  This was years ago and the pain is mild to moderate but it never goes away.  Then recently i got in ANOTHER accident, hit from behind.  So you know that just messed up my neck again.  I play poker for a livng and sit at a table all day, and the sitting combined with the neck pain is not a good combination.  The pills help that a lot.  The fear i have now is withdrawal because i dont have the money to be taking a week off being sick........thats why i was asking if i should "wean".  Everyone, thanks for the responses.  More are welcomed!

Thanks!  i really can understand why people get addicted to these pills.  They take away all the aches and pains.  Ok im following your advice.  I have 20 left but im not using all of them.  Im taking 2 today, 2 tomorrow, 1 monday, 1/2 tuesday.  Then im done with them.  If i do that, do you think go through any withdrawal?  Do you think ill be able to play poker wednesday?  How long will i have trouble sleeping in your view?  Today is actually day 11, so its going to be 11 days of 5 per day average, then 2 on day 12 1 on day 13 1/2 on day 14.  Then none.  EVER.

You should be fine on wednesday.. maybe a little irritable with people.. maybe a bit of diareah ( I assume the pills made you constipated)  sleeplessness and restlessness at night happen to people differently.. how long depends.. I would pick up an over the counter sleep aid to have in case you need it..that way you are prepared for it if it happens.. also some Immodium just in case of that.. other than that and some anxiety you should be fine.. didn't take em too long so should be an easy transition.. hope I helped some

You helped a lot my brother!  You put my mind at ease, which i know is half the battle.  The crazy part is,although im not an alcoholic, i usually drink 3-4 nights a week.  since i started with these pills, i havent had one drink.

Some probably won't like or appreciate this comment, but I have learned that a 10 mg methadone on the first day of taking no percs will help tremendously. Maybe another on the 2nd day, but don't take anymore than that.

Also, as FLAddict suggested, keep some es Immodium AD handy :)

Be very careful with the methadone.

I only responded to this because I know how much the withdrawals hurt and how much of a difference the methadone made.

Just know that we are all different. What 1 person goes through might not happen to another. Like direaha (sp). I have detoxed nurmouse x in 23 years and only had that effect a few times. Or constapation. Hydrocodone and others never do that to me, but now it happens with the dilaudid I am on so I can walk.
Yes, regardless of what people may say, your body can get chemically addicted in a very short time, and peoples advice to just quit "cold turkey" is implieing that you must not be "that addicted" because of the time limit. I have found again..we are all different...and a person chemically dependent after a week or two CAN go through the same withdrawls and just as bad as someone that has been addicted longer.  I do agree though that if you CAN do it CT...do it now. Save the few you have the the REALLY hard times, like maybe at bedtime when you just can't sleep, or your legs get restless.
Good luck Brian. If you can get off them without help.....do it.
