Personal intimate question

by FLaddict, Feb 28, 2007 12:00AM
To those of you who are already off the pills. How long does it take to get your sex drive back???? This is truely one of the top 5 reasons i want to stop. over the past year especially my libido has gone dowm to almost nothing. i oringinally blamed everthing else.. changed my birth control..nothing.. changed antidepressants.. nothing.. blamed my husbands weight gain.. ( not to him but in my head) finally i had to realize it was the pain pills. so i am wondering how long after i stop til I see improvement in this area??? My husbands patience is wearing thin..

I'm sorry I don't know.

But being of the male persuasion I can understand the
dilemma.

There is hope for tomorrow though.  That much I do know.

GOOD NEWS: In answer to your question, at week four when most of the W/D symptoms had subsided and I was only faced with fatigue and sleeplessness, the old libido started to regenerate.

BAD NEWS: At the same time my wife came down with the stomach flu that has lasted six days.  And, today we learned she will have to go in for gyn surgery in the near future.

Sometimes, I think we addicts walk around with a dark cloud over our heads.  In my case, it is a dark cloud that will be showering me with cold water for awhile.

Thanks i appreciate the response.. I was starting to worry at first that there was actually something wrong with me hormonally.. i am a 26 yr old female who has always been a very sexual person.. and then bam one day it was gone.. its been especially bad the past year. I am ashamed to say that we have only had sex a handful of times in 9 months.. he is the type to not want to if he knows i don't feel like it. sucks.. sorry about your wifes stomach flu.. and her upcoming surgery..

I faced the same problem- I'm 28 and the pain pills dramatically decrease libido and make climax virtually impossible. But it is good to hear that it will soon be back in swing! And you will enjoy it even more knowing that you are truely present in the experience- not in the "haze". Thanks for your honesty and good luck!

I know it's different for a man but libido changes are one of the main reasons for me wanting to get off methadone. It doesn't decrease my libido as such but high doses can make orgasm virtually impossible. Of course my girlfreind thinks this is great because  it means that sex can go on for ages but it makes it far less fun for me. Also very high doses of methadone can make it very hard to maintain an erection but I don't take really big doses anymore. I appologise for being so graphic but we're all adults and this is a serious problem for many people and not something that everyone feels comfortable discussing. Also non-users probably don't understand just how these drugs affect sexual function and this forum may be the only place that one can discuss this sort of thing. I would love to hear from any other methadone users (male or female) to see how they tackle this delacate problem.
God bless all, Graeme.

My libido and climaxing abilities came back quickly -while I was still very sick - probably about day 2. This was very good news, but remember that I was only using for 6 or 7 months.
