Pill Problem

I am new to the forum, but have been reading through the posts for several weeks now. I have a problem with pills and am trying to stop. I don't take them I snort them. A friend of mine got me started on it about 8 months ago. After a few months of just doing it here and there I started buying pills myself and the problem just got worse from there. I am mostly snorting vics and perks about 4 to 6 a day. I actually stopped doing it last week for 3 days, but couldn't stand the withdrawl symptoms that I was having so I bought seven vics and am trying the tapering method, but I can honestly say that I do not have the self control. I really want to stop and need to stop. I have a fiance' who knows nothing about my problem and two wonderful children. I am also a nursing student in my last year of nursing school. So I really have a lot to lose. I prefer to quit cold turkey, but I am just scared to. A friend of mine who had the same problem quit and he told me that he used some sort of nasal spary that you can get over the counter. Has anyone ever heard of this? He has moved away, so I am unable to get in touch with him to ask the name of it. He said that it helped with the flu like symptoms. Any advice given would be great and really appreciated.

Fioricet comes in a few different flavors but the main ingredient is Bubital which is a barbituate.  If you want to know how addictive they are just ask Marilyn Monroe or Jimmy Hendrix who died from overdosing on Barbituates.  Their DOC was phenobarbital but they are still in the same family.  Although much different than opiates they can be equally addictive so you need to be careful if you are taking them.  As far as curbing the withdrawl symptoms with Fioricet I don't know whether or not it would help but you should be very careful.

So glad you posted.  Congrats on throwing them away.  That is a hard thing to do.  I never snorted them (oh by the way...nice friend getting you started on that) but I took 6-7 norcos and vicodin when I couldn't get the norcos.

The next few days will be difficult. I am on day 5 of w/d right now.  This is what helped me.

Naproxsn (Aleeve..over the counter) helps with restless legs and headache/pain

Thomas Recipe ...many people have it in their journals...goingtomakeit has it

Hot tub or hot bath as often as you can

I know i am missing some things but i will post when I remember.  The sweats/chills are the hardest for me and there isn't anything over the counter to take for them (as far as I know).

I wanted to add that I have two children as well and I am starting nursing school this fall.  You have come TOO far to through it all away.  You know as well as I do how hard it is to get into nursing school.....if you don't stop you won't make it the last year.  I knew I had to stop for my kids number one....husband and I know I could not go to school like this.  I totally understand the energy thing (try L-tyrosine for that)  but my memory was ****. I already feel clearer and only day 5.

Hang in there...I will be on and off this weekend.....Iam glad your fiance is there to help with the kids. I called my mom and she came and spent two nights...I said I had the flu...my inlaws took my kids last night to give me some rest...I am getting them today.

I will be thinking of you!

I have never heard of nasal spray. Are you sure that is what he said? That is odd, maybe it was for the sneezing that occurs..

Anyway, sweetie, look..you need to try to stop this problem before it takes over your life. And believe me, it will. Its started with Percs for me too, then lead to Oxy's then lead to my husband over dosing, then lead to me spending all my money...it ruins everything in your life that you have worked so hard for. Please, stick with this forum and let us help you. We are all here for you....

Thanks to everyone for all of the encouraging advice. I have stopped snorting the pills as of yesterday and took half of one today. I don't think the tapering is going to work for me, so I have decided to just flush the rest of the vics. I couldn't stop thinking about snorting them and I know this would only lead to me wanting to buy more. I actually stopped doing pills last week, but got to day four and I just wanted them so bad. I mostly like the energy buzz they give me. I have also decided not to get my script of Fioricet filled. I don't want to go from one pill to another. I just can't stop thinking about how I got to this point and why I let myself get here. Many of my friends snort pills and I was always against it. I just wish I would have never started this nasty little problem. Well I am already starting to experience w/d symptoms. I have zero energy and a bad headache. I am glad I will be going through this over the weekend because my fiance will be home and he will be able to help with the kids. I am so ready to put this part of my life behind me and move on. Thanks again to everyone who responded. I will most likely be posting soon about how bad I feel.

Oxy girl, checked with pharmacist the other day, fioricet is not a narcotic and would not interfere with withdrawl or prgoress from addiction.  And I spoke to my doctor who agrees.  But they can be addicting.  I never got off on it.  I use it as needed.  Abused the heck out of percs and vics though.  I'm on day 8 of no narcs, day seven of withdrawls, getting better all the time.

I went to the ER yesterday and got Clonidine.  I was over the worst of the withdrawls but it helped anyways.  I stopped crying uncontrollably, minimized the sweats.  I slept much better.  But my symptoms started5 days ago, I just coudn't take it anymore.  My guardian angel warned against methadone and subnexone.  So, I steered clear of them.

Well, the 1st step is admitting u have a problem & are addicted-you've done that. The key 2 quitting & being successful at it is that u HAVE 2 be ready & serious about it!! I agree w/oxygirl-u have 2 stop snorting them-just taper by taking them orally (never understood y people snorted em??). By tapering, the withdrawals won't b as bad-but still a BI*CH-trust me-I just went through em!! I'm on day 13 from cold turkey from opiates (Norco, Vicodin, Lortab, etc..) & I haven't felt better!! For me, the worst was the first 3-5 days of it-after that, it's just psychological-the cravings will NEVER stop, but u learn 2 live with em. Have u thought about telling your fiacee? Do u think he'll support u? The only thing that got me thru it was my supportive fiancee (he took care of the house, my son, & me!), some prescribed Xanax & a lil pot. Not 2 condone these drugs-just telling u what brought me thru it. Keep us posted-we're ALL here 4 u & in the same boat-you're not alone!! *Angel*

fioricet has codeine in it...so that would be replacing one drug with another.....there is no way of doing this without having w/d even if u chose suboxone u will have to w/d or taper from that too..unfortuantely there is no easy way out...i wish there was....i know by ur post that u really wanna quit..u can do this..i know ur scared but just know it can be done ....i am 3months clean from a horrible oxy addiction that started out just like u....trust me if u continue to use it only gets worse.....i agree with oxyaddict if anything STOP SNORTING NOW.........i only say these things cause i care......god bless u

check your fioicet...most have a small amount of narcotic and all have a barbituate...barbituates are harder to wd from than opiates///fyi

Fioricet without codiene is a non-narcotic, but with the codine it is a narcotic opiate.

Fioricet alone is a barbituate(sp) and it can also be abused and addicting though.  It also has caffeine and tylenol in it as well. It might help, but be supercareful not to abuse it, to just switch one drug for another..

welcome to the forum.....theres no time like the present right?..the longer u use the harder the w/d will be so the choice is yours......it helped me to think of it as the flu.....i know u r scared and u have good reason to be...u have to be ready to quit and it sounds like u r so why not get ready to do so this weekend while u have some time off maybe....maybe get a sitter ...tell them u have the flu.....by tuesday or wednesday ushould feel better.....think about ur kids and ur future.....wouldnt u like to wake up one mornign and not have to worry about a stupid pill?..i snorted too and i can tell u now u need to stop that...i have damaged my nasal passages beyond repair.....ok im done preaching lol.....like worried said look up the thomas recipe..use valium or xanax sparingly though  as those r addictive also......god bless u sweetie and remeber u can do this..u r stronger than a darn pill

Well, wanting to stop and realizing that you have a problem is the first step.. You really need to first off STOP SNORTING THEM!!  If you are goign to taper, just take them orally.  You realize that the feeling you get from snorting them is due to a very very small dose od actual hydrocodone, and oxycodone!  You are mainly SNORTING BUFFERS, AND TYLENOL!  That can be horrible in SO MANY WAYS!

So first you absolutley have to stop snorting them, and just take them orally with what you have left.  As for the spray, it is just a nose spray that clears the sinus passages. This worked good for him because of all the BAD **** HE WAS SNORTING!  It was able to clean out the nasal passages and actually let him breathe.  You can ask the pharmacist, or look up online at drug reference guides to see all the different types of nasal sprays for those symptoms.. With the internet and all the info at the click of a mouse, you should have no problem finding it..

BEST OF LUCK..

BY THE WAY, DID I MENTION THAT YOU NEED TO STOP SNORTING THEM?

JUST TRYING TO LOOK OUT MAN, SINCE I HAVE FRIENDS THAT DID THIS AS WELL, AND IT ONLY LED TO HORRIBLE LONGER TERM PROBLEMS!

Sorry, I have never heard of a nasal spray helping with WD's.
However, many nasal sprays will cause a positive on a drug test for meth, etc.
Best of luck to you

My doctor prescribed me Fioricet for migraines and I haven't got it filled yet. I am wondering if this would help with the aches and pains. Has anyone had any experience with this pill. It is not a narcotic I know that.

never heard of this spray...you can find the thomas recipe on here which consists of vitamins and sleep aids and such...I know there is a antiviral spray for the real flu but i do not think it would work for this particlar "flu"..WDs is a little different...there are lots of non-narcotic options tho to make it more comfortable
