Please! Any Ideas??

by speciality, Mar 30, 2008 03:46PM
I  have 4 percocet left, and cannot refill until  4/3 or so. Should I take them one by one (my usual is 2 per dose) or take one at a time to avoid being ill. I use these for pain, but they do not work as they used to so when I am in pain crying, I take more, and end up running out early. Oh, I am also on MS contin at night (one) extended release, but I still feel it when I am out of percocet. I thought they were both opiates, so why do I get w/d when I am out of percocet? Already I feel like I dont know what to do with myself, and on top of it I am in pain. It is my own fault as I KNOW better than to run out, yet every month I am short a few days. I do not dare ask my Dr for more, as he said the DEA is getting very strict. Is the percocet withdrawel in my head? Or does Morphne work diffferently in the brain? Also, any tips on how to get through this?

I would split those 4 in half. Take one half 2x per day. Does this happen alot? That you run out before refill time?

by speciality, Mar 30, 2008 03:53PM
To: It happens
every month, but it is always by a few days. I sit here in pain, cry, and finally if I have pills, I end up taking enough to get out of pain. So, yes I guess it does. The funny part is I hate them, they make me feel tired and depressed. The alternantive is not being able to walk, and I am literally not kidding, I have had periods where I had to crawl on my hands and knees around my house, have groceries delivered, my house hasnt been cleaned in a while, as it is only a dream I can push a vacuum.. Kind of damned if you do, damned if you dont

I agree with FLaddict on splitting those in half and taking them like she says.  Even if you do get through with the percocets since you have legitimate chronic pain you need some kind of after care.  Especially taking the oxy's.  Glad you posted, good luck!

To: Oxy's? I take
MS contin at night and percocet. Is this Oxy's?

Welcome specialty, You are in the right place. Many of us came here for the first time for the exact same reason. I know I did. Now I am 9 months without taking a pill. I couldn't bear to live like that anymore.  Counting pills, waiting for refill day. consumed by thinking about pills. There is another way of life Speciality. Its here if you want it.

Read through the posts here and find people you relate to. Maybe we can help you stop this vicious cycle of insanity.

I think MS contin is the same thing as oxy's. right?

by FLaddict, Mar 30, 2008 04:02PM

To: How did you deal with the pain?
I have traded one hell for another. I can walk a little bit, but you are right using too many pills, waiting for refills UGH! I hate it. All of the gel between 3 discs in my spine has leaked out, so it   is bone on bone. I have osteo arthritis and scoliosis in the back. How do you manage your pain with no meds?

To: You guys are so informed
not to be an obnoxious, but I mean it! Anyway, One last question ( I have had nobody to talk to, so bear with me) So... I am wondering if I am taking MS contin, why am I feeling weird not taking as much percocet? They are both opiates, so shouldnt it be no big deal? Is it in my mind?

by FLaddict, Mar 30, 2008 04:10PM
Its your tolerance. Your body is used to the doses you have been taking, cutting out the percaset is gonna hurt a bit.  You need a good slow taper.

by speciality, Mar 30, 2008 04:14PM
To: Ok
That makes sense. Thank you

by road2recovery, Mar 30, 2008 04:15PM
I agree your tolerence is way up there...IT will take your body a while to get used to anything lower....But if try to do a good taper that will help alot..

ARe you trying to get off of pain meds altogether??  Are take as persribed?
sorry , i am a bit confused....

We all here have alot of personnal experience,in all different areas and medication.. and to me that is so much better then any doctor trying to tell me what i feel, or what i should not feel...
I do beleive only addicts can truly understand...

I am just sick of the worrying about the pills, how many I have ect. At first I thought they were a godsend, now I am not so sure.

by FLaddict, Mar 30, 2008 04:31PM
Girl, we have all been in your shoes. The pills that were meant to help us start to bite us in the ***.
You have choices now. You don't have to live like this. There is light at the end of the tunnel. I promise. I am on the other side standing in that light. It wasn't always easy, but it was worth it...  :)

to clarify-
MS Contin, a controlled-release tablet containing morphine, is used to relieve moderate to severe pain. While regular morphine is usually given every 4 hours, MS Contin is typically taken every 12 hours--only twice a day.

Good Luck Speciality!!

I know that my husband at one point was prescribed percocet & ms contin, and he would always take the percs first, then when that ran out he took the ms contin, now the only thing with that, was he had to take a dose in the beginning that was not the same as what they prescribed, know what i'm saying? they say take 2 every 12 hrs, and he would have to start off taking 4, or so. But after he was able to get these in his system, he could then take 1 or 2 and that would last him, literally all day long. He always used to say, those were the best to take for the pain, because he was able to only have to take a max of 4 or 5 a day, and he says it really helped his pain alot, and with the percs he was basically having to take 8 at a time, eveyr 3-4 hrs, because he was also taking the oxycontin, so when he ran out of that, he took the percs then the mscontin, i know its a long story, if you ever read any of my posts! he is now on day 27 of ct w/ds off of all meds!! He is struggling, but he will never go back, just like you waiting to go back to the dr. & even with all the pain meds he was getting, STILL running short every month, it was pure misery for him, so please be careful, and maybe see if they can find you something that will last a little longer than the 4hrs, I'm in no way saying you should abuse your pills, but to me, you sound like your in legitame pain, & it sucks when you have that much pain, & therefore have to take your meds, even if it means taking a little more, to help, but you shouldnt have to be punished every month for being in pain. Talk to your dr. & tell them the percs aren't working like they used to, hopefully you have an understanding dr. & even if he's not understanding, he should know that at this point, your body builds a tolerance to them.
