Pls read. Answ Thomas recipe questions

So thanks to everyone for your continuous support. Anyone following my situation will know Myself as well as my husband will be battling our w/d. This will prove especially difficult being surrounded by practicing addicts. (Mother, adderall, benzos, pain pills, brother  n law/ housemate alcoholic), and so on. This doesn't make my situation Unique, however, seeing as how we are only divided by walls, This may prove a difficult feat. We (husband and self) had decided to ween, considering we wanted to take the Thomas recipe route, and with financial strain, doctor prescription cost nothing w/ insurance, and the vitamins would be somewhat costly considering time of year, finances, and children. However, now we are officially ready, and have bought all the products, Anyone who has tried the Thomas recipe, please give us your advice. It will be worse for my husband, as he has been taking opiates for 3 years, and myself just a few months. So with that being said, any advice on who should take what, starting when. I have Valium, but we have a Toddler and many responsibilities, so laying around nursing ourselves is of no option. We  need to draw as little attention to our situation as possible. Any advice. I don't underestimate prayer, as that would be my most accessible supplement, as well as wish second to experienced advice. I am so serious about seeing this through, and doing alongside my husband. Pls, if you have anything positive to contribute, pls do, thank you!

The thomas recipe does suggest a benzo..i used a couple of valium in small doses for anxiety during the day...i think i had 3..then no more..i did not use them for sleep...drugs u use to sleep with can become mentally even if not physically habitforming....benadry or nyquil becomes a problem for some

I found that when i used the recipe in recommended doses//which is alot of pills....i found the powdered form on Bulk Nutrition and mixed it with EmergenC?Walmart/
3 x a day..the C is good for ur immune system as detox an take a toll on ur immune system..plus lots of other good vitamins in EmergenC..gets ur water intake in as well as u have to mis this with water..dehydration is common in people with large habits who detox due to the runs and lack of appetite..often vomiting which is usually only more sever detox..anyway fluids r important..as is EXERCISE  to pump up endorphion production

If u r willing to try..the forum will support u..u r welcome to pm me anytime for support..keep posting

5-HTP is a supplement for energy and mood enhancement. To me, but most are different, that was the most important piece of this. No, it's not 40. I got it for under 17$ at GNC. You would start taking your vitamins on your first day of NO pills..so no, not tomorrow, but the next. You can start taking the 5-HTP and the multivitamins if you'd like, but the L-Tyrosine and other have to be taken on an empty stomach.

The best thing is that you and your husband are doing this together you will be amazed at the support you will pull from one another. Good Luck!! My husband and I battled alcohol together and beat that I could not have done it without him, I couldnt tell anyone in my family I was the "perfect" mom not a "drunk". Anyhow rightnow we are doing the vicodins together because somehow those little guys took the place of alcohol about a yr after we were sober?!? Funny how that works. Just be supportive of each otehr and now that this to shall pass and your marriage will be stronger for it. Good Luck again.

One thing I forgot to mention, take the L-Tyrosine and other vitamins needed for it's absorption an hour before eating breakfast or it will cause stomach upset. Same with the 5-HTP, take it WITH meals or it will too cause stomach upset. Just like avis said, make sure before taking any of these vitamins that they don't cause an adverse reaction to what you are already prescribed!

Hey there....your name says you're from Florida...I am too! Palm Bay/Melbourne!

Anyway, what I did was the first thing in the morning take the L-Tyrosine (1500-2000mg..they say 2000 but I only 1500, I'm a little person 5ft, 105lbs..but they also scale up or down for it may give you the "coffee jitters" so start low like I did), take the L-tyr first thing in the morning an hour before eating along with the B-6(100mg) and/or B-12(500mg) for better absorbtion (I took both), and a multivitamin containing 100% of what's needed for copper and zinc, also good for absorption of the L-Tyrosine(this is what gives you energy and lifts your mood), than with 3 meals although it may feel hard to eat, you have eat, eat nutrient dense food, fruits and veggies, good carbs...etc...healthy eating is essential. Anyway, take the 5-HTP with your meals, this helps your body naturally produce serotonin again. The opiates deplete this and replace them. The next thing you have to do is even though you don't feel like it, get a little bit of exercise. Just walking around is fine...haha...I walked around Wal Mart for a little while as my exercise!

Avis is right about the Xanax, I took it to aid with sleeping at night only. But I was able to control how long I took it. I didn't need after Day 3. I then started using Melatonin, it'll say 1 or 2 tablets under tongue. But don't use the Xanax if you can't control it. Please don't trade one addiction for another. Benzos are so much harder to withdraw from. Opiates are a piece of cake compared to that.

I too,  have 2 little girls, aged 3 & 5, sleeping all day wasn't an option for me either. This is the reason why I got the few things I did, and like I mentioned earlier, I feel great today! Continue the taper for as long as possible, then make the jump and just get it over with! Also remember to get the Restful Legs from Walgreens....you WILL need it!

Good luck, and again, I'm here if you need me. Message me if you like!

Your advice to have one w/d prior to the other would be wonderful, had i not already taken initiative to cut all ties w/ doctors/ pharmacies that would be of any further assistance to him or i pertaining to the issue at hand. LOL, I was so adamant about stopping completely, i exposed our delicate situation, backing us into a corner in which we cannot change positions. I felt this best at the time. The only way to reverse our current ''cut off situation" would be to go outside for pharmaceuticals, and that, i am not willing to do, nor him, so we will just have to tough it out together, haha, sounded good on paper. lol, as far as benzos, I am prescribed them ,and as you say you have heard people say they have never been addicted and then 6 mo's down the road, well i may have been one of them to say i have never cared for them, but, .....I cannot afford an alternative resource, as i have already paid for them (3.00), and they don't really help that much anyways. So if they are for sleep, well then i wont be taking them anyways for that. They are for my anxiety, and only until reading these forums have i ever even contemplated taking them. I cannot however afford any more vitamins/health supplements. I will barely even be able to fill my monthly 3.00 perscriptions of sleep and mood stabilizers, which by the way i have a psych appt tomorrow,  should i mention my new vitamin regimen?

no you do not sleep a couple days on benzos...that would be nice but as you are about to find out, extremly difficult. I cold turkeyed off a 150-200mg hydro habit a day, and i did use the Thomas recipe, all i can say about it is this, as long as you do not expect a "mirical" out of it you will be happy with it. It(Thomas) does not take away your w/ds by any means, it just helps put things into your body that are needed, and it does enhance mood//energy for some, but the thing is, you are going to be at such a low during your w/ds that the little "boost" you might get out of the Thomas recipe is going to be easy to not notice. As "avisg" said, be carefull with the benzos-they come with there own set of problems, however if used minimally for the first couple days you prob will benifit from them.

o.k, thanks, question, the Thomas recipe is very vague.  So from what i gather, i sleep for a few days on benzos? I want to find a thorough guideline, like day 1, upon waking, take etc, X amount of hours later, take etc. ya know? Lol, i know that seems extreme, but i just spent 60.00 on vitamins, and REALLY want this to work, and don't want to take an incorrect amount, or misunderstand something. I have to be able to be awake. I know i may feel Lazy, but sleeping for 3 days in succession is no option. I have a toddler that requires much attention. I will continue to post upon my usage, and that way if anyone can provide any insight or recommend an alternative or offer a more beneficial equation, i can make adjustments accordingly. I am relatively ignorant in the realm of biomolecular nutrition, Human anatomy, and pharmaceuticals abroad, any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks again

I would try to stay away from the benzos as much  as possible. Our copy of the recipe no long contains them because they are an addictive drug .I have had many tell me they will be fine they have never liked benzos so they are not worried then 6 months down the road they are trying to come off the benzos so be very careful WD tenuous time.
Can one of you detox before the other .It might be really difficult if you both do it at the same time .I know your use has been shorter and you are not on as much .Could you go first and then when you are on your feet then have him wd .That way you both have support from the other .I used vit b and b12 magnesium and now I am hear vit d can make a big difference in pain levels .I took ltyro for energy but never over 11 am or it would mess with my sleep .I used 5hpt for mood it helped me alot and it helped my sleep I also use sublingual melation.
You guys can both do it ....we will help you threw ....

Hello!

First off, congratulations on your decision to fight!! I did use the Thomas Recipe, but only from the pushing of a friend of mine here. I fought this fight about 3 weeks ago, then relapsed on Day 5, but I used nothing at the time. I did it without "help." Now I'm back, on Day 3, and feel wonderful!

What I did was, L-Tyrosine, B-6 and/or B-12, with a multivitamin containing zinc and copper on an empty stomach upon first waking an hour before eating. Then 5-HTP with meals. Do this, and you're energy and overall mood will be positive!! Like I said, I'm on Day 3 and feel wonderful! I never thought I would feel like this on such a early time in my recovery. The Immodium AD is a God send. It's an opiate, but does not cross the Blood Brain Barrier, it binds to the opiate receptors in your gut. It helps so much. One thing the Thomas Recipe did not mention is Restful Legs from Walgreens. Get that!!! It helps with the Restless Legs that most all withdrawing addicts feel. I did use Xanax to help me sleep, but only plan on using that for the first 3 days, then get Melatonin. It's a natural sleep producer. Sleep is the last thing that you will be able to get. But other than that, you should be absolutely fine!!

Congratulations again! I'm here if you need me!
