If you have family support and your worst time is at night, then let them know! I've had panic attacks for 24 years and am currently trying to cold turkey off of vicodin from a back surgery. The fear and depression (withdrawals) I am told lasts in relation to how long you took the drug. A month may seem like a long time but it sounds like you dont have much longer to "wait it out". I am in the panic, insomnia, vomiting, lethargy, coldchills(sound familiar?) stage at day 3 also. I took 10 10/325 a day for the last 5 months before my back procedure and I'm told I should expect about a week of feeling horrible-but it will be worth it! I would find my closest confidant (friend-mom,dad,someone from school,etc..) and have them stay up with me! It may feel embarrassing to ask but you feel soooo much relief just knowing they're there and having the distraction. Are you out of school for the summer yet? do you have a close friend who could spend the night and stay up with you? Do I sound like a school teacher-well I am-sooo anyone can get physically addicted! I f you need someone just to write your feelings at night to I will listen. I am a wife and mother of two little girls(6&18mo). Not a freak just someone else wanting help like you! I HATE the anxiety & fear (everyone in my house is asleep too!) Tomorrow is our daughter's last day of kindergarten, hopefully it will be easier when school is out-same for you. I hope that in all my ranting I may have helped a little! Hang in there-you are very strong for taking the initiative to post on a forum & admit the trouble your having. Keep me posted!

Yes !!  Tell your parents how awful you're feeling;they would want to know. You don't need to go through this alone,Sweetie.  It does get better.  Are you going to be okay without meds for your pain?  Your doctor can address that.

Keep posting and let us know how you're doing, okay?

My heart is breaking for you, Sweetie.  I'm thinking of my girls (12 and 17) and my boys (11 and 15).  My oldest daughter just had her 4 wisdom teeth out not long ago and had a hard time, and I stayed up with her all night for a few nights.

Please tell your parents so they can get in contact with your doctor.  I'm sure they can give you something that will make things a little easier.  And your mom or dad can look on this site for some tips to help you along as well.

The advice you got here is really good.  Having someone with you at night is an excellent idea.  (Just don't pick a friend that's going to fall asleep on you!!)

I'm on a lot of medication now for a lot of years for an injury I got in '08.  I can't wait to get off these medications, but I'm dreading the withdrawal.  My pain doctor did say they can help me when it's time to come off so it won't be bad.  I'm sure your doctor can too.

In the meantime, though, try things to help the symptoms you have now.  (Of course you should talk to your mom or your doctor before taking any medications.)  But Ibuprofen might help some of your aches and pains.  Your doctor can tell you how much to take depending on how much you weight.  (My daughter got 800 mg. Ibuprofen in addition to Percocet when she had her teeth out, but it was only needed for 3 days.)

Try to eat some healthy food, even if you don't feel like eating, and make sure you drink plenty of fluids so you don't get dehydrated.  (If it's hard to keep even fluids down, try popsicles and ice chips.)  Gatorade is good, too.  Hot baths (ask your mom and doc if it's okay to use Epsom salts in the water at your age) can really help you feel a bit better, even if you don't feel like it initially.

I've read a lot here and most people say a little exercise can help a lot, even though you don't feel like it.  (Though you should definitely have someone with you.  Maybe a short walk would be good.)  Try to distract yourself, find a movie, some magazines, play some of those addicting games on Facebook.)

But most of all, please, please, please tell your mom or dad or call your doctor.  If there's a reason you can't talk to them, maybe there's someone else, like an aunt or a friend's mom.  I'm worried about you going through this with no adult knowing what's going on.  Are you out of school for the summer or just home sick?  And are you home alone?

What kind of symptoms are you having?  Please keep posting here because people really do care.

I can't believe the doctors just threw you, a child, off the medicine.

Tell your mom and dad right away!! If you truly have been fed this medicine for the past month and a half, you should have no fear of telling Mom and Dad!!!  They will take care of it for you!

You shouldn't have to suffer like this!  I hope this steers you away from drugs in the future!

What happened to you that doctors gave you (a 14 yr old girl) dilauded???? Were you hospitalized for that month? I'm sorry, I just need to know more about your situation. Yes, absolutely go tell your parents you are scared at night. your drs should be giving you something to help you if you are having actual w.d. This is crazy to me. How can you give a child this stuff. My gosh, I didn't start my addiction until i was 24. I have no clue where I'd be if I started at 14. Honey, hopefully, now that you see what these pills can do to you, you won't ever want them again. I am sorry you are going through this. It gets better, trust me. It does. Just keep strong. We are here. If you need someone, anyone to talk to, you just come here.

And just on the very off chance you somehow got caught up in your medication without realizing it (taking more than you need or something,) and you're afraid to tell anyone, don't be.  As a mom (and I'm sure everyone else here that's a mom or dad will agree), we just want our kids to be healthy, happy and safe.  If for some reason, one of my kids came to me and told me they got caught up in something like pills, for whatever reason, I wouldn't be angry with them.  I would just get them the help they need and make sure they got through this safely and with support.

I'm not saying in any way that happened to you, but it just seems so strange that doctors would have you on such strong medicine for a fairly long period of time and not be monitoring you after.  Shame on him for that.  And I know how easy it is for teenagers to get caught up in things and then feel like there's no good way out.  (It happened to one of my son's friends but luckily he did get some help from an adult he felt close to and is doing great now.)

Basically, all that matters is that you get through this with some support.  Even adults going through this need support.  Please keep posting so we won't worry!!

Katie~  Can you put your Mom on the forum?  There are things you can take to get you a little more comfortable.  It's sounding like you're having withdrawals now.

I'm happy you posted back...we were concerned for you~

Just wondering how Katie's doing?  I, too, hope her mom comes and checks out this forum.  I think it is an outrage that these doctors prescribe these meds (to kids nonetheless) and then don't follow-through.  I'm thinking how frightened she must have been going through this.

I hope Katie posts again and lets us know how things are going.
