Possible Darvon Addiction

Hello,
I am a newbie to this site and I am happy it exists.  I have been taking Darvon capsules for about 8 -12 months for back pain. I have had lower back disk surgery and have chronic arthritis of the spine.   I also have recently been diagnosed with m.s at the relapsing- remitting stage. However, except for the occasional numbness and fatique I am okay. I find that I have increased my dosage of Darvon to 5-6 pills a day to deal with the pain. However, I also find that it is helping relieve the anxiety I am experiencing from my current m.s. diagnosis. I do not want to rationalize and say that since stress is bad for m.s. taking this dosage is okay, although it really does help with my pain.
My question is this.  Am I abusing this medication? Particularly in light of the fact that I have m.s. and this medication works on the central nervous system? Also, I find that Darvon and previously Tylenol 3 medication causes me to retain a lot of water.  Is this common and what do you suggest I should do??  Sorry for such a long e-mail.

I am very familiar with Darvon-65.  I used to buy those over in Tijuana Mexico.......they are pretty low, but pack a big punch.  Be very careful with those........I have found myself in a corner drooling on myself a few times and trying to complete a thought was a holy task.  Those little guys are wicked, and suprisingly difficult to get away from.  Beware!

Thanks for your reply it is very much appreciated.  The mental  picture of myself drooling in a corner was most effective. What would you take instead of Darvon for the pain??

That was a very good, accurate, and descriptive definition of Darvon-65. You don't see them prescribed much anymore, but it was a popular painkiller/party drug in the 60's and 70's. yes.....Darvon can overtake a person....as far as a substitute, i'm not sure.....theres still darvocet....and then of course hydro and perco.....all very addictive. Its a **** shoot depending on your pain and your addictive nature...I'd confer with a Dr.

I don't know what your pain is, but if you have pain issues--you need to talk to a doctor, but I would definitely stay away from the D-65's. I don't know what it is about those little buggers compared to what is prescribed now, but many people have accidentally overdosed on them like ohisleguy said back in hippy times.  I think they really don't prescribe them much anymore  because they have a tendency to cause serious respiratory distress.......so, please be careful.  I know what I am talking about.

Luv,
