Pregnancy and Percocets

About 9 months ago I had my wisdom teeth out and was prescribed percocet for the pain. I found out I was pregnant and stopped for a few months but had a tooth pulled and was perscribed oxycodone. I am currently 8 months pregnant and have been taking about two 5mg percocets a day for almost my whole pregnancy. I tried to wean off but the withdrawals and pain was too much. I want to deliver my baby without having him or her go through any withdrawals. I want to start weaning off ASAP. I wasn't sure how I go about coming off of the percocets. Do I cut cold turkey? Wean off gradly and cut them into halves? Will this affect my baby stopping cold turkey or weaning off? What is the best way to stop taking these pain killers for the baby. Also, has taken these off and on throughout my pregnancy hurt the baby in any way thus far?? Pleas help!!!

You need to tell the doctor right away......As avis said this is about the baby.......Your doctor will set your mind at ease if you are straight forward with him/her.  Let us know how you are....sara

Remember this is about your baby not you ,try to put the fear aside it will be ok .If asked just say they were not prescribed for you you don't need to go into details as to how you got them.alot of addicts get there drug off the street so it wont shock the doctor... You are taking very little a day and that is very good he may tell you cting is ok but you really do have to get his ok you don't want to go into premature labor now.

Also,my advice to you......I just had my 3rd baby a month ago.I got hooked back on pain pills after my delivery. They will send you home from the hospital with a script for ibuprofen and percocet.Just get the ibuprofen!!!!! It is soooooooo tempting to start back up again.Trust me I know all too well.

Thank you so much. I am going to the Doctor on Thursday. I am just really afraid as to what to say to him! Any advice on what to say, I have started tapering down already but I read that you shouldn't stop cold turkey it is bad for the baby. I just want to stop and to be done, i don't want anymore in my system, I may just stop cold turley!

Tell you doctor ASAP that you have been taking them threw out the whole pregnancy and they will make a plan that is the best for both you and your baby. You have been on a low amount and that is great.I know telling your doctor is scary but they have many patients in the same situations, the members here that have told there doctors have always been happy with telling good luck you both will be fine
