Pregnant and addicted to vicodin

My brothers girlfriend is pregnant and addicted to vicodin. My family and I want her to have the baby but she said she dosn't want to because shes afraid that the baby will have problems or come out with birth defects. We told her to ask her doctor but she is not being cooperative with us. So my question is that if she is addicted to vicodin will the baby come out with birth defects? Also my brother wants the baby but feels like he has no say so since shes the one that has to carry the baby...is there anything else he can do so she will not abord the baby?

hi and i am sorry your family is dealing with this.  as far as the baby goes, there have been many here who have had babys without birth defects, although some were born dependant on the opiates and had to be weined off.  but the big question here is, is she willing to get off the vics for the sake of the baby.  if not, is it fair to but a baby through 9 months of opiate adiction (addiction)?  just a thought.  she does really need to talk to her dr about it all. i wish you all the best!
