Pregnant and addicted

by JayJayMarie, May 12, 2009 08:21PM
okay, I just found out that i am almost 3 months pregnant. I am currently addicted to Oxycodone. I take at least 80 Mg a day. What harm can this do to the baby if i continue taking it? Or what could it do to the baby if i all of the sudden stop taking it?  I just don't know what to do!

well, i am no medical expert. but i would think it cannot be good. if not for the baby, then of course for you. there will be alot of hormonal changes, and emotions get changed around during pregnancy. add unnatural endorphins into that mix and it does not sound like fun.
also, i would think it not a good idea to quit cold turkey, as it shocks the body so bad. a slow wean would be more safe for the both of you.

good luck with the baby and try not to panic. i cannot imagine how you must feel. but there is a good solution for this and take your time getting all the info you need for the right one.

im sorry but from what ive heard from doctors and others its really not a good situation because im told: that A if you quit cold turkey while pregnant theres a very high chance of a miscarige as it shocks the baby and the baby will go through the withdrawls with you, B if you continue to use after the baby is born it will then inevitably go through withdrawls on its own. im not sure how this work if you start suboxone or something like that. i hope someone comes along who can help you more. sorry i couldnt be of more help.

if you don't get off oxycodone, your baby will be addicted to oxycodone, its the same way with a crack baby, heroin baby, the drug is given to them while there in the womb, its basically going through you and to the baby, your not getting any of the pain relief, your baby is getting the full dose, that's one good reason i have

Bottom line you dont want to hurt your baby!! are the oxy perscribed or are you getting them off the street? If your Dr is giving them to you he will have no problem helping you. If he never gave them to you talk with your obgyn also dont count your reg' dr out regardless if he gave you the oxys or not. You need an expert Drs opion not some one like us who can give a well meaning but MAYBE misleading or wrong info. Good luck

You need to talk to your ob/gyn and tell them the truth.  He/she will be able to help you with the best plan on keeping the baby and you safe.  I wish you the best.........sara

You only have one choice.  Tell your doctor immediately!  They can help you through it.
