Pregnant and needing to wean off Norco and depressed

Help!  I am ashamed and I don't know where else to turn.  I am 5 months pregnant.  I have had a problem with pain pills (vicodin/norco) for about 2 years.  When I became pregnant I was was taking 4-6 norcos a day.  I wasn't taking any but after a week of the sweats I couldn't take it anymore so I took 1/2 of a norco 2x a day to keep them at bay.  I have been wanting to stop completely for the sake of my baby ( I am ridden with guilt and depressed about what I am doing to my baby)but know I can't handle the withdrawls with school and my 3 year old.  The cold flashes and depression are horrible.

Unfortunately, I am taking 2norcos a day now to keep the withdrawls away and really want off but I don't know what to do.  I CAN'T talk to my doctor.  I have kaiser which is an HMO so I basically see a different OBGYN everytime I go to the doctor.  I had an appt yesterday and asked if there is anything that is safe I can take while pregnant for depression/anxiety and she said go to counseling....
1. I have darvocet...like 24 of them...should I try and wean myself off using those?

2. Should I try and see a drug addiction specialist to possibly get subxone (sp) I have a feeling they won't touch me since I am pregnant or they will insist on contacting my doctor which is a waste of time and a huge nightmare.

I can't do the recipe while pregnant.

I have a few klonipin but I know I can't take these either.

PLEASE HELP!  I know everyone is so knowledgable

How much ativan did you take while you were pregnant? I am currently 18 weeks pregnantn and take .5 mg ativan everyday if not twice a day. I hate that I need to take it because I know it's "not safe for pregnancy" but I keep trying to remind myself my doctor wouldn't give me anything that would harm my child..still if you could give me alittle insight I would feel better knowing your babies turned out just fine. Thanks dear!

Not sure how late this is but it may just help another.  Im a medical professional whose been stuck on pain mgmt on/off since late 2006.  I had a work injury and legit pain issues from that, a congenital nerve issue found later and bad luck with other medically pain related things that arose (like gallstones, surgery, etc)  I am planning to conceive within the year for the first time and also worried about many of the same things.  I have Kaiser (not my 1st choice) and I know there are many that can be judgemental and holier than though when they have no right but still I was very clear with them about all this.  It shouldnt be an issue, just be honest.  We all have things going on, all perfectly flawed.  We do our best.  The pre-conception appt I had with the doc and midwife explained many other women face similar issues that still really need pain mgmt especially when pregnancy related symptoms can increase pain.  They have special docs (complicated pregnancies) that will deal with these specific conditions head on to ensure the safest pregnancy, L&D for you and baby.  Clearly we are not the only ones and even though there is a possibilty that baby will be born addicted to the meds and will need to be weened off safely at the hospital, there is nothing to suggest that this will have any further effect on child.  Of course all of us would want and wish to have the best scenario to be pregnant and have children with no adversities but sometimes life hands us more than we can control so we do the best we can.  Good luck and ill be hoping for the best myself as that time gets closer.

I am 7 months pregnant and currently taking 20 mg. per day of methodone.  I have only been taking methodone for one month.  Can I wean myself down to nothing during my pregnancy and if so, will it harm by baby or pregnancy in anyway?

My daughter went through a detox at OSU and they used Methadone she was 20 weeks pregnant at the time, then she started using again disappeared from home for a month or so. Our little guy did go through some w/d, he was very jumpy and jerky especially if he was help by to many people. He was small at birth only 5# 12 oz. He is 3 months today  and weighs 10# 6 oz.  Still tiny! He also didn't pass the haring test in his left ear. We were told that many of the affects could come as he got older as far as learning defects. Please don't be ashamed tell your doc and get help for yourself and that baby. These drugs affect the nervous system (she was on vicodin and percocet she crushed and snorted).  We are from a very small area and children services told us that it is an epidemic around here.
When she went thru treatment and got clean she was only there from Sat. night to Tues. morning.  When she had her ultrasound done my husband went along and he said he just kept praying and praying that the baby be heallthy  and right there in the middle of his prayer the little guy gave us the thumbs up and then folded his hands together like he was praying too. I look at it like this it is better to tell your doc and get help and let people talk about that if they have to than to do nothing and something possibly be wrong and have done nothing to get help and then they will really talk. Not thaat it even matters what people say. Just PLEASE PLEASE get help. Sorry for rambling!

I am also 5 months pregnant & addicted to norco. I have been so sacred & feeling so alone. The shame & guilt has been the worst. I'm only now trying to wean myself off the pills & just hope I have the willpower to do it, but sometimes it seems unimaginable to go thru a whole day w/out even one in the future. I did tell my OB finally but she was no help as she didn't know how to deal w/ it. She sent me to the pain clinic who recommended rehab.  I know they prescribe Subutex instead of Suboxone for women who are pregnant, but I'm afraid of only getting addicted to the as well. Methadone is also widely used in pregnancies, but I don't want to go that route. I feel just as afraid, but you are not alone.

Make an appointment with a doctor you have seen and liked--I have had Kaiser too, but when you call for an appt., just tell them that you must see that particular doc, whether it is an OBGYN or GP.  I was on ativan and prozac throughout both of my pregnancies, and my babies are fine.  You just need to be under a doctor's care--be honest, and make them FEEL for you.  Cry if you have to (doesn't sound like it would be too much of a stretch--you sound pretty upset).  The thing is, a good doc can help you through the pregnancy much more safely than you can do it on your own.  You don't need to suffer withdrawls--that is just as hard on the baby, if not more.  A good doc will keep you and the baby safe and comfortable, and will monitor the baby for any possible negative effects.  The docs need to know what's going on, though--also so they can thouroughly assess the baby when it's born, and help it through any withdrawls it feels.  Be treated for depression, too, since you are at a much more increased risk of suffering postpartum issues--take it from me, not fun.  Good luck, and don't beat yourself up.

Hi and welcome...None of us will ever judge you but I do have to say...you really do have to tell your OB about this.  I work as a nurse in L&D/Prenatal testing...I don't want to scare you but your baby will need to be tested (it is just an NST which is non-invasive...they put a monitor on you and listen to the baby 2x/wk and look for things that indicate fetal well-being!)  Your dr should not judge you either. I know you are scared but you are not the first to be in this predicament nor will you be the last! I see this quite frequently! W/d is hard enough and I don't know how it will affect the pregnancy. Please tell you Dr. You will give yourself peace of mind knowing that you are doing what is medically recommended. We are here to support you as well. Please keep us posted!
Peace,
Marcie
