Pregnant and trying to stop Vicodin

I am 7 and a half months pregnant. I occasionaly bought a few vicodin on the street before I was pregnant but once I found out I was pregnant I quit. After a while of being pregnant I started getting horrible migraines and was very depressed because of all the physical limitation and emotional problems I was having. Don't get me wrong, I love that I'm pregnant, but the side affects are a nightmare. Anyways, my doc gave a few scripts for vic and said it was ok for a little bit during pregnany. Next thing I new I was buying off the street constantly. I know this is so horrible but sometimes I got up to 12 a day. I would justify it with the things I would read online, that it was ok to take it as long as I quit before the baby was born. I'm 30weeks now and I'm trying so hard to quit. It hurts and I can't quit crying and feeling so much guilt. I can't talk to my doc about it because in my state she would have to report me. I've come to realize that I can't do it cold turkey because I get in a lot of pain and then once I get my hands on a few I end up taking to many. So my plan is to just take two in the morning, and if the pain gets as bad later in the day as it is in the mornings, then I'll only take one more. I've confessed everything to my fiance and he's going to help me with this. Does it sound like a good plan or am I expecting to much?

She's afraid, because she was buying them off the streets, too.  Yes,its a legal drug.  No, you can't break the law to obtain or posess..
And if she was using to the point of getting them illegally, then there may be a child protection concern.

But if she's honest, wants help, and asks for it, she shouldn't have a lot of worry in that regard.  They'll work with her, if she needs it.

FIsh, drugs like ativan, clonidine, and any other benxo type are cat X during pregnancy and very dangerous.  They can stop all blopw flow to the placenta.  Also any and all rls medications are equally as unsafe.  I know you post that for all new comers but it's dangerous to post that for a pregnant woman.

Report you who>>>>> child services???  I don't thing so especially if you are honest and up front... she know the last thing you need is them on your back justifying there existence!!!!

Hi this is pre-written for new people… hope this helps:

It’s good to come clean with your doc concerning your desire to get off.  Ask him to prescribe clonidine, (not klonopin), and ativan.  These will help with sleep, RLS and anxiety.  These are best to try before formal detox and drugs like Suboxone.  I had to do formal detox because I tried everything else, including alcohol to get off and nothing worked for me.  Keep in mind that when you try… make it a good one!  Have some time off of work if you can… maybe a four day weekend or more.  Make the last day of work without any drugs, because the first day is usually the easiest.  Try your best to get clean and stay clean because the other methods require more potent drugs and you have to come off of those.  I am still on Suboxone and am a little worried about that… It does work well but the jury is out on, “At what Cost.”  I also learned while in detox, that the mind can psychosomatically create pain to “get’ the drug.  Another was that healing while using opiates greatly diminishes.  I would have sores on my hands that would take way too long to heal.

I have to say this from the bottom of my heart,  Please do not keep playing around with these drugs they are very powerful ….. kinda like heroin in a pill and just as hard to get off once you attain the, "addicted" status.

I am currently going through the same thing that you are. However I was only taking 3-4 vicoden a day. I took my last pill on Saturday and I feel GREAT about it. I also went through the guilt when I took them. I have severe back problems. (4 herniated discs, 3 torn discs and degenerative disc disorder) so my pain is not "in my head". I know what you are going through. I am just under 20 weeks and I know if I stop now things will be ok with my baby. I am here if you want to talk. Email me at ***@****

Keep the dose as low as you can, as mom2rachie said.  You don't want to CT for the reasons she stated.  2 - 4 a day is not bad and won't likely harm anything.

If you actually want help, be honest with your doctor and ask for help.  Where you get into trouble with Social Services is if they suspect drug use, test the baby, and find it without you being honest about what's going on.  Usually, if you recognize you have a problem and ask for help, they'll bend over backwards to help you.  As long as your home environment is safe, of course.

There are lots of indicators, or behaviors in the newborn that can prompt the hospital staff to do a drug test on the newborn.  Consent is needed to test the mother, but not usually the baby.

I hope everything works out for you, and that you get the help you ultimately need.  Best of luck.

At that dose and at that amount of time you've been taking them there are 2 options here.  Either your bay will be born addicted and will go through withdrawals that are easily recognized by hostpial staff, OR your baby will be fine and not go through any withdrwals.
If you are not sharing this with your dr and the baby is born addictd you could get into trouble but that might not even happen.
I sugeest keeping it to the lowest dose possible and the withdrawals in babies are not nice. There is excessive crying, poor sucking refelx, irritability and inability to sleep.
I will tell you this though.... I was on percocet my entire pregnancy and even though I was able to wean off to nothing before my daughter was born, my dr who knkew about it and prescribed it for me, said that there wouldn'tbe a problem.
Just get down to the lowest dose you can but do not stop c/t at this point because at 30 weeks it could send you into pre-term labor and that little one is clearly not ready to comeo ut yet.
I also wanted to add that IF the baby does come out addcited the docs acn easily take care of it. What happenes thereafter, I'm not sure but the baby will be ok.  At least your mind canbe eased about that.
Congrats on your pregnancy!!

I've been through 3 pregnancies and my doctors had me on narcotics during all of them.  Email me and I'll give you the details.
