Progressive Disease/Progressive Cure

Addiction is a progressive disease. Most of us started out using just a couple pills a day (lines in my case) but as tolerance builds and our brains are rewired, we fall deeper into our addiction and each day it gets harder to stop. Soon a couple pills turns into 10-20 a day or more. In active addiction we are living our lives backwards!

Recovery is a progressive cure. In the beginning it is pure hell, with all the pain, guilt and wondering if we can ever get back to who we were. With baby steps we slowy climb out of the mess we made. We begin to heal and think clearer. Climbing out of that hole makes us who we are today and stronger than ever. Most of us here had a defining moment when we knew it was time to stop and were truly ready. That moment hit me so hard and for the first time I knew it was now or never. Believe in yourself and there is nothing you will not accomplish. In active recovery you will live your life moving forward!

Yeah, it feels good to be out of the hole, no more feelings of dispair, helplessness, aloneness,.  It feels good to feel strong, empowered, and lighter in my heart!

I do want to always remember what it felt like living the old way, what it took to get to where I am today.  I want to remember the W/D and the grit it took to do what ever it takes to get free.  It's kinda like a PRIZE won!!

Great thread, Gizzy......... you the man!!!!!!!!!!!  :)
