QUESTION AGAIN!!!

Hi I posted a question but no one really knew the answer I am hoping someone does now. I became physically addicted to percs I was on for 2 yrs for neck. After surgery I weaned off which did not work too good but I made it. Through all my pills away. I never wanted to do withdrawal AGAIN!!! Now there is a  good possibility I will have to have surgery again. It has been three months since I stopped. Will I get addicted again physically or even quicker? Anyone know or been there? My nephew says "Yes and I can never do pain med's again or I will be right where I ended up!! Docs do not seem to know or care. Help!!!

Just to give you my opinion...

If you have to have the pain meds post surgery, then I wouldnt know what else to do but take them. However, yes... everytime I have been prescribed a pain med I have become addicted all over again. Even if it was for short term use. Good Luck and God Bless!

No,you did addicted when you dont follow the prescribed dose.Try to not abuse.when we are in legitamate pain the medication works on moderating the pain and provides less eurphoria.

if you have a high tolerance than stick to something like naproxyn or ask your doctor that you would like a narcotic for break through and a non narcotic for every day...i know that for me, now when i have surgery i use the non narcotic during the day, and than if it's tough to sleep for the first few days i'll take the percocet only at night and only for up to 4 days total...there are ways around it hun...ask your doc...

I do have a high tolernace for pain so that is good. Don't like the part about going thorugh withdrawal after just 6 days!!! What about morphine?? I hear that is really bad to take. I heard there was something new but don't know what it is YET!!!

it's all about controlling the amount your taking and for how long....I had a serious surgery done about 2 years ago and i only took pain meds for about 4 days and only as prescribed...i wasn't quite comfortable with the pain on the 5 day but i made the choice to stop at day 4, eliminating any risks for withdrawls......there is no easy way out...some people handle pain better than others and don't take pain meds at all after surgery.....it's all up to the person.....it's up to you to wiegh the risks and make the ultimate decision...but yes, i know that when i had a surgery done for my kidneys about 4 years ago and was on percocet for only 6 days and did suffer withdrawls but they only lasted about 4 days and were not very severe...good luck...

confused is right...let the dr know up front you donot want narcotics.  the other meds may not make you feel as good as the opiates...but then you dont have horrible w/ds either.  i guess its the trade-off.  good luck

It is a very GOOD possibilty, but there are other pain meds. that are non-narcotic. I would let your Dr. know that you can not or do not want to take narcotics and you need something else.
