Question about Subutex treatment for long term opiate use

Iv abused "the weaker" opiates such as dihydrocodeine and codeine since I was very young (in early teens) which all started as legit for pain (headaches) but now I'm 30, at 20-25x 30mg dhc a day. I have been forced to taper down by my parents and am now at 17 bcz I can't do it alone (iv tried countless times). Ct isn't an option bcz I have a heart condition so need to taper slowly until I get a place in detox facility.
Question- to anyone who may have an idea about this - is subutex the way to go (obviously not long term years and years) , but for now? My doc suggested this. Altho they are weaker opiates I'm abusing they are at a pretty high dose and my addictive tendencies are also uncontrollable. I have experienced so much pain in my life it's like my addiction also stems not only from depression but from refusing to feel pain.

If anyone can help with some thoughts and advice it would be very kind and helpful as I don't know too much about subs yet.
Thankyou

hey lola rd, nice to see you here, how ru doing?  you are young, i want you to beat this addiction now, while you have age on your side!  weren't you on a waiting list for a detox facil?  are you close?  although i did outpatient treatment that was the best thing I've done in a long time.  i strongly recommend treatment over any substitute meds ... be good, be well!--Meegan

Hi there, I'm sorry you are struggling so badly with this. I can only give you my opinion, and I think a detox/rehab facility is a great option. I would hope it would be at least 30 days, so that you can learn the skills you need to beat this addiction. You will meet others in recovery, attend meetings and start to delve into the reasons you use and your fear of pain. I truly believe this is the answer for you. Perhaps until a spot opens up you should try going to NA meetings now. You don't have to be clean to go. You will start making clean friends and learning the vital skills needed to get/stay clean.

I would NOT get on subutex. This is a medication that in my opinion should be a last resort for people struggling with Heroin, Methadone, Fentanyl or mixed cocktails of opiates. It is a strong drug, much stronger than codeine, and in your case would be like trading a monkey on your back for a gorilla. The doctors hawk it like crazy, but I really think to them its just another drug in their arsenal and they don't know much about it. I think it has its place, but not for you.  Try the meetings, and for sure stay here with us for support.
