ADDICTION: SUBSTANCE ABUSE COMMUNITY
Question about meds

Question about meds

I have a degenerative disc disease in my lower back. I get steriod shots for it and do physical therapy. So far the only thing that has ever worked is narcotic pain killers (vicodin, vicoprofen, soma)but I am addicted to them so I try to stay away as much as possible. My doctor has prescribed Robaxin and Tramadol in the past. Neither one of them did a thing for me. Now he is trying to prescribe them to me again! Maybe I didn't give them a chance last time because I was so use to the strong stuff. Since my body is clean now from the hard narcotics, does anyone think it's worth it to try these again? I have heard that people get addicted to Tramadol so I'm a little afraid of that. I really don't see how since it did NOTHING for me last time I took it. The only thing is, I need something! This pain is becoming unbearable. I also want to try everything I can before having to have an operation. Need advice! Oh, and I'm sorry this post was so long. I didn't know how to ask about this without putting in every detail. I can be a little long winded. Please forgive :)

Yes, I think that the scripts will have more of an affect on you now that you have gotten off the others.  However those are both addictive medications so, make sure if you need them take as perscribe and keep communucating with your dr and us

I only have exerience with Tramadol and limited at that.  Perhaps now that you are clean the scripts he is offering wil help.  Do they work better together?  (the two he is offering).  I have minor back issues and Alleve is helping more than Tramadol alone does.  I take tramadol because I am now on day 4 w/o norco.  It is great for withdrawals, I haven't even missed work or sleet.
Ask your dr if the two drugs together will help with the pain.  If it doesn't, call your doc and ask for alternatives.  I've tried accupuncture, physical therapy, you name it.  You shouldn't have to suffer with pain.
