Question for Vicoden Abusers in Recovery

I asked this last night but need to ask once again. My boyfriend is now on his way up to the urgent care center to see what is wrong with his back. HAS ANYONE HAD THIS SYMTOM OF WITHDRAWL (withdrawal) WHERE YOU GET SEVERE BACK PAIN? IF YES PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I DON'T WANT HIM GOING UP THERE AND GETTING MORE PAIN PILLS OR ANYTHING AT ALL.

My boyfriend just got out of the hospital for some kind of pain and I'm not sure what is wrong. He has MS but it's not to bad. I asked him if he was given any pills and he said just tylenol.

Urgent care does give pills out. So I don't know what to tell you.

Alot of people complain of back pain during wd.  Also, the addicted part of our brain frequently "manufactures" sundry aches and pains that "need" to be addressed with opiate pain killers.

Even if it's an actual pain and not associated with wd, the rule is that addicts seeking Recovery don't take opiates except for the most severe injury (or operations), and even then only with full disclosure of their addiction and with strict control of the meds by a sober person.

When I was still in active addiction I wore out me welcome at every Urgent Care kinda place within miles.

Good luck,

I've heard of the back pain. Lots of people get it some worse than others. BlotOutTheSun was experiencing back pain real bad and I think he was on day 15 or 16. I havent heard from him since Saturday so I don't know if he was able to get any help for it. It was really testing him as far as meds go. Hope you can get it figured out. I think it is part of the withdrawl (withdrawal) and has to be worked out without the use of pills.

As people told you last night and again today...Yes..it is quite common to have back pain during withdrawal.

Mine was quite exaggerated, but did stop. I do still suffer with chronic pain, but most days it is tolerable.

Unfortunately, one of the ways to find out is to not take anything..finish the withdrawal, and see if the pain is still there. It will be uncomfortable, but I think he may surprised.

hi, ive had this pain in the middle of my back, not sure if i have a real problem or if just w/ds, im on day 18 now and it still hasnt gone away, i went and had x-rays done, they didnt find anything wrong, so they set me up an appt at the pain clinic for the 23rd, im hoping it will go away and i can cancel the appt, sometimes it doesnt hurt to bad, but other times i get sharp pains and constant aching, but i never had this problem b4 my addiction, so im not sure, i have taken a few tylenol 3's whenever the pain is unbearable, they didnt really help, i dont consider it a relapse b/c i was really hurting and i didnt take them for the buzz although if my mind created this pain so i would take something then i guess im wrong, good luck

Thanks that helps. More people resonded today than last night so i will let him know. Now i have to get up to that care center or get home when he gets there just to make sure he doesn't get any darn pills. I can't seem to trust his word that he isn't going there for pills and i can't have these pills around me. Neither him nor I need any pills in the house at this point in time.

Thanks again. I will check back later tonight.

often when you quit opiates, any pre-existing pain issues (i.e. back) -  the pain you had before can become exaccerbated, for awhile.

but it is also quite common for addicts who need a "fix" to run to urgent care for some "complaint," just to get pills (vik's.)  many of us here did that during active addiction...

i didn't know that urgent care gave out tylenol... that's a new one to me.  but i could be wrong..

Here is an update from my post earlier today. He went to urgent care and they gave him Motrin and something called Flexeril. I looked that up on a website and didn't like what i saw it is a skeletal muscle relaxer. Ofcourse he wasn't honest with the doc and didn't tell him that  he abused vik's for years and just relasped. He has only been clean since the relaspe for 2 maybe 3 days.

Should i worry about this Flexeril?

I don't like the sound of it but I am not having any back pain and i am withdrawling as well. Mine seems to be almost over it has been almost a week for me and it was easier this time than 3 weeks ago for me BUT not for him. I don't know about him taking this drug...

What do you all think?

I have a feeling it's an excuse. Sorry. If it isn't it is probably exaggerated pain. He may not want to quit as badly as you, I dunno. Some people say they are, but deep down they know they are not.

I don't really know what to say, but don't let his relapse get in the way of your getting clean. Stay strong, he will admire you for it, or resent you for it. Hopefully the first.

Stay strong!

I like that - Stay Strong.. That is what I keep saying to him.

Thanks Sam I will. I know I can beat this demon I have created. I am already feeling better and can't wait to get back to normal.

Mind over matter.

Flexiril isnt as bad as some on the market, Soma is alot worse. Sounds like he wants an excuse! but thats just me ! flexiril will make him way sick if he takes to much of that! will knock him out and make him feel tired for days! I had a friend that tried that one! so its alot better than what they could have given him!

Yes it could be wds. I went to urgent care on my first round of wds. (I used again after 2 weeks, 5 pills and went backward to wd cold and miserable again) I told the doc at urgent care what I was doing (getting clean) She gave me 15 tabs of 5 mg valium to be taken every 8 hours and 5 tabs of ambien. they helped. But when I used after 2 weeks I went ct. I have experienced MANY pains of various degrees. But I do take aleve and it helps. I hated to hear the words " Can you take aleve or motrin?" But they help, really. Hang in there.

Pain manifests itself everywhere in your body when you are going through wd's. All you can do is stick it out, and use home remedies like heat, ice, baths, etc until he is over the worst of it.

Just support him the best you can, but help yourself first. It sounds selfish, but it may just be what he needs too.

Post back again tonight, tomorrow, whenever, but I would like to hear how things go.

With love,       Sam
