Question

by beatingthis, Mar 24, 2009 10:23AM
I really need some advise. I am on day 10 I took Lortab for almost daily migraines (bad ones) trips to the ER and such.
I was on Lortab for 5 years. Now these monsters are back and they are pissed. I tried Botox, nerve blocks, preventives. Triptians, accupunture, bio feedback, diet, you name it I tried it. Is my only choice the darn ops? Be in pain or be a addict? Please tell how to fight both. I really don't know how.

I also suffer migraines, I don't know if it will work for you but when I feel one coming on I have to lay down,  take some iburofen, wrap a heating pad around my head, and fall asleep,, I have to do this in the beginning stages because if I let it go to long there is no way to get rid of them for a long period of time, and I usually would end up in ER, There are alternatives to pain meds but you have to find what will work for you,, it took me years of trying different things to find something that would work to control mine,, I hope you find something to relieve the pain because the side effects of taking the pain meds are worse than the pain we endure... And this is coming from an addict that has a very low pain tolerance.. I know I can't have a taste of these meds without wanting more, so I also know i'm going to have to learn to deal with pain.. I hope in some way that will help...

Thanks! Guess it is back to square 1 with these. Zomig is my onlu drug now but I am taking one everyday. I don't dare call the doc. He dosen't understand why I wanted to come off pain meds in the first place. He is a good guy, He really has done his best to try to help. I will see what happens tomorrow.

i, too, started on the hydros because of both migraines (several each week, which made me almost lose two jobs) and daily chronic tension headaches......over 20 years, i've tried literally EVERYTHING on the market that was marketed either directly for migraines and chronic daily tension headaches or drugs which originally weren't but were found to help with migraines and daily headaches.....i, too, have gone through all of the triptans, neurontin, all the preventatives out there, imitrex and every other migraine med out there, in every form, shot form as well (which i had to administer myself in the legs....which left ugy HUGE bruises all over my thighs, yuck, and they hurt, too), chiropractic, accupuncture, accupressure, massage, heating pads, cold compresses, all OTC stuff.....NOTHING works.....if it's a true migraine, i can sometimes get rid of it with one of the "true" migraine meds (non-narcotic), but typically, in the past, it always took a migraine med AND a lortab to knock it out, unless i wanted it to linger on for 24-48 hours.....then, for the daily chronic tension headahces which are NOT migraines, the only thing that worked was the lortabs (only narcotic i've ever taken, but i've taken it for a long time, not in huge doses, but for a long time)....so i hear your plea and your desperation.....i also tried the trigger point shots, the botox shots, you name it.....sounds like you're talking about me!  i truly don't know what to say.....i was in the throes of a terrible one yesterday.....was so sick to my stomach i could barely take care of my kids.....was on the verge of the ER but didn't have the energy to get us all there and sit there forever while i was in pain before i could get any relief from maybe some very strong anti-inflammatory thru an IV drip (have  you tried that?  i had to go to ER before for that, and they also gave it to me in the hospital.....i can't remember what it was called....it started with an "S" though....stamadol?  no, not that, but something like that.....problem is, it only works for me thru IV drip....and how can we be running to the ER every day/week/month like that?  that's not a way to live either.....

so, i hear ya loud and clear.....maybe you haven't tried some of the things i mentioned here.....massages?  chiropractic?  accupuncture?  maybe YOU'LL have better luck with some of those than i have....ya never know.....we're all different!

i'm sending strength, hope and many, many prayers your way......let that stupid pain flee from you head!!!!!

i'm sorry if you can't find any great suggestions in this note, but i wanted to at least let you know that i care and i know of what you speak......

luv,
kim
