Questions / Need Help Kicking Oxycontin / Percocet Addiction

Hi, and thanks to everyone for all of your help with my problem. I am a male, 40 yrs old, and have been taking oxycontin and percocet for about 3 yrs. It started with a leg injury, and I liked the feeling, so I kept getting the pills on the street. I have been doing so for 3 yrs.

When I try to stop cold turkey,I get shakes, feel cold, etc etc.  So I am weening myself off of it.

I have a couple of other questions that I would like to ask, as I go through this very difficult time.

I have been taking a large amount of oxycontin for the past month.  Everyday, I have been taking 320 mg of oxycontin, 3 times per day.  I chew them up when I swallow them.  I dont just swallow them whole; I chew them first.

I know this is way more than I should be taking.

Prior to this, I have been taking 80mg of percocet, once a day, for about 3 yrs.

I am weening myself off of the oxycontin and going back to percocet, ultimately to get back to 80 mg once a day and then hopefully ween off of it.

Here are my questions:

Is it possible to completely ween myself off of this?  I went to an addiction ctr and they told me that someone who takes it as long as me has 'permanent' brain damage and will need either this, or syboxin, most probably for the rest of their lives.

Is this true?  I read on here people weening themselves off of it.  I want to do the same. This is my 3rd day weening and I am already down to 240mg twice a day.  I plan to go to 160 mg twice a day by next week, and then I will 80mg twice a day, and then once a day.

Is this the right gameplan? I dont want to get hooked on the syboxin and then not be able to stop that.

Also, is it true that I have permanent damage, or is it possible to ween myself off of it? I think they told me this because they charge 300.00/month, just for me to come in once a month, to drug test me, and give me a month supply of syboxin.

Is this true, or can I ween myself off of it?

Here is the other big question?  With me taking that much, for a full month... i am worried that it may be 'stuck in my body' and built up, and I am concerned about my liver failing, or about overdose, etc etc.  Should I go to the hospital and tell them what i have been doing, and tell them I want my stomack flushed out? Or will I be ok?

I had  a full physical done last week. I told my doc i havent had one done in years so he agreed to do it. I had a compete blood count done, where they do all the tests. He said everything is fine, including liver function and kidney function... he said my triglicerides (triglycerides) are just a bit high...he told me to cut down on the pizza, because of the cheese)... but other than that, all blood tests are fine.

I dont want this in my record, that i have this problem. I just want to ween myself off of it and forget about it. But should I get my stomach flushed out, or will I be ok?

Ever since I have been taking this large dose of oxycontin, my right leg swelled up.  First my ankle, then my calf, and now my entire right leg is swelledup.  This is very hard to quit.  Please give me any info.  Could this be due to the oxycontin?  could it be from taking too much of it? Maybe its just a side effect from the medicine?

At what point will I be ready to do that one recipe, that I read on here all the time...the Thomas recipe, I think its called. Willthis be good for me to do (once I am ready to stop competely)?  Anyone who has any info, please let me know.  And please let me know the answers to the above questions too.

Thanks so much!!!

I pray to GOD that through the help of all of you, I may be able to kick this habit and lead a normal life again.

U have not done any true permanent damage that can not improve with time...and the fear of suboxone addiction is a real one...i do beleive that u have a good chance of doing this cos ur high use has only been for 1 month...
Oxycodone is the same drug that is in both oxycontin and percocet///cet stands for tylenol..percs are fast acting and do not last long...oxycontin is time released so when u chew them u r getting a bunch at one and they hit u fast/but r gone fast with snortin or chewing..causing humongous doses after a while...typically chewing or snorting an 80 mg oxy due to braking the time release coating only lasts an hour or so..hence use goe way up as when u crash off of this quick high u crash hard..so u use another..so stop chewing and swallow them asap
if u were taking 80 mgs of percs at one time each day/that is alot of pills?  I didnt know they came much stronger than 10 mgs? In actuality, u would be better off takin 1 80 mg oxy as it is time released vs 80 mgs of percs at once cos it is gone so fast/hits u much faster than oxycontin cos oxycontin is time released/unless chewed or snorted...if u plan to get down to 80 mgs of oxycodone a day...taking percs would be better for ur taper but not 80 mgs at once...maybe 20 mgs 4 x a day..or 15 mgs 5 times a day,,80 mgs at one of a fast release med is not good..the reason i say percs is because u can break them as u go down lower in ur taper and u r not sposed to break an oxycontin

But u have only been on this huge dose..900 mgs or more? for 1 month?  that will help...stopping chewing them will help tons.it will help ur brain adjust and make wd-ing easier..read the health pages..there is an article on tapering and one on dopamine/and how the pills affect ur brain..it will help u understand..the thomas recipe also rox and is in the health pages..if u try ur best and just cant do this then maybe consider sub/carefully

Tapering is tough for an addict..i was no good at it..but have seen people do it succesfully..handing ur pills over to have them doled out to u will help.writing out a taper and picking a QUIT day/and sticking to that day even if u mess up ur taper...if u had been on this dose for more than a month//i would agree this is a proble  that suboxone may be warranted...900 mgs plus is huge but u know that..ur addiction is running away and taking u with it..u know u gotta stop..and that is a good thing cos this doesnt get any better

fact is u r gonna feel uncomfortable...and that is part of it unfortunately...sub can help u thru the wd part but if u stay on sub longer than 2-3 weeks then u have sub wd to contend with..u need to be sure u stick with aftercare thru-out this whole process and even after

So have u been trying to taper?  have u stoped chewing?   and u r doing good with ur taper?  And do u plan on getting back down to 80 mgs a day and think that u can stay there?  that is not gonna happen..u probably know that...u will never be able to  use again//not responsibly unless u r a superbeing//and we r all different...but u gotta let go..pm me if u need any help
