RLS Relief

Hi from Phoenix AZ! I need some info about RLS. I am getting ready to quit a Suboxone habit. I was addicted to hydros and tramadol for over a year. I didn't feel I was strong enough to go cold turkey so my doctor led me to Suboxone. It really is a trap and when I successfully get through my PAWS I will be warning others to stay away from Suboxone.

I get HORIBLE RLS when I try to quit. My question is: Has anybody had success with requip? If so, what dosage of requip worked for you? They have .25, .5, 1.0, and 2.0.

Do you take the medicine at night only or during the day too?

I really appreciate your help. I made it 14 days off hydros last year, but the RLS was agonizing and I gave in. I want to do EVERYTHING I can to help ease this upcoming hell. I know I can't buy my way out of it, but I might have better luck if the requip can at least take a little bit of the sting out of the RLS bite.

Thank you so much!

Kindest Regards,
Scott

The creepy crawlies are the worst wd symptom, IMO.

RE Lyica. Be careful with this med. It can cause dependency and drug seeking behavior.

My personal approach to wd is do it the hard way. Take nothing. Suffer. Want to die. It ends. And you will always remember it.

Besides nothing really works anyway when you're in full blown wd.

Hot baths help for a short period of time. If you spend your entire night in the bath tub, well, it beats laying in bed flailing around and puking into a bucket.

Thank you very much for the suggestions! Lots of fresh ideas on here. I feel much better going into this pit this time than I did on my previous false starts. I will look into a lot of the stuff y'all have recommended! =) Scott

I take requip for RLS. I take .5 mg 1hr before bedtime. This med works on the dopamine receptors. These same receptors are effected when you use narcotics. Another homeopathic med I found is called "Leg Cramps" and its made by Hylands  Homeopathic Labs. You take 3-4 tabs (sublingually) every couple of hrs as needed. I know a lot of people think that" if its OTC it cant be very effective"., But this stuff has quinine in it and i really helps me. You can find it in most of the large chain pharmacies and a lot of vitamin and health food places carry it also. It's about 6 bucks for 100 tabs, so if it doesn't help your not out a fortune. Give it a try,who knows?

My doctor gave me lyrica which seems to be working. RLS is just part of the Wd. I have had RLS every since my accident and surgery. My normal meds for RLS is elavil but it doesnt seem to work while going thru the wd's. The lyrica helps but doesnt take it all away. It just makes it somewhat barable. Lyrica stops some of the electrical signals from the brain to the nerves. Lyrica is also a non narcotic and non benzo. It is used for fibromialga and also to reduce seizures. RLS is a nerve problem not a muscular problem.

Mirapex is for RLS,  I take a very low dose, .0125 mg. I use to wake up in so much pain from RLS, wanting to move my legs, achy, couldnt be still. I tried everything to no avail, except the bananas, and the Mirapex, I would also take a very hot bath before I went to bed, it seem to relax my muscles so I could at least get to sleep. have you talked to your doctor? there are other meds available that are not a narcotic, Mirapex isnt but I am not sure about requip. good luck

Thank you Worried for the detailed information. I had no idea those extra receptor sites never went away!! I guess that's why the experts say that once you are an addict, you always will be. =( I understand the dangers of an addict messing around with dopamine. I just have such a tough time with the RLS. If it was only for four or five days, I could hang in there, but mine tends to last more like 14 or 15 days.

Thank you! I have actually heard a lot about the bananas too. Is Mirapex for RLS? That's GREAT that it worked for you!

well...i can give u a bit of info on rls...dunno if it will help;;;always helps me to know the cause of mt dilemna

an addict has been feeding their brain with outside endorphins/then they stop/the brain freaks out but will adjust to make the endorphins again//the brain is a finely tuned organ...it sensed the outside supply...and quit or cut down on production/mainly dopamine

have u any knowledge of parkinsons?  the jerks and twitches they have?  parkinsons is caused from a lack of dopamine...this disease is chronic..urs is not as the brain will adjust/usually 2-3 mths/to the amount of dopamine it needs to produce and keep u on an even keel/ask ur doctor..not sure it is the best way to go with addiction as urs will pass..unlike a parkinsons patient...and feeding ur brain more dopamine may slow the natural production by the brain/just guessing...ask u dr

FYI: schizophrenia is caused by tooo much dopamine production

drugs that replace dopamine can help/requip being one of those....also lots of supps out there that replace dopamine/or encourage production of dopamine...exercise is one of the main endorphin producers we can do without taking any supps...tyrosine is a great amino for this purpose/not to be taken with anxiety tho as u do feel the nrg at the dose recommended in the thomas recipe/check the health pages/great article on the receptor sites and dopamine

we do build extra receptor sites when we bombard our brain with pills///the brain is not equiped to handle the overload ..so extra receptor sites are formed/again/again, the brain is a very finely tuned organ that will adjust when it senses the need to do so...unfortunately those new sites never go away...but if u stop using they will go into remission..ie go to sleep...during wd and aftermath these newly built receptors scream to be fed..but it passes...and the will lay dormant....until we use again...then they wake up...and the previous tolerence level will be right back/or worse than it was before u quit

so yes...replacing dopamine can help rls//but ask ur dr/being an addict/meaning this condition should recover with time vs other causes of rls/feeding ur brain more dopamine via requip may not be the best route...ask ur dr...be honest..many have this and it is not drug related///stats r that those who work out and r active r less likely to suffer rls during detox as their work outs etc produce the endorphins they need to avoid rls...there is a good article in the health pages on rls and a study done on rls patients....read it..learn the cause of ur symptoms and it cam mhelp u understand..keep posting

I have never tried requip but my doctor has me on Mirapex which works wonders for me. I have also be told that there is an otc called hylands restful leg that works well too. eating bananas and hot baths before bed, helps alot too also stretching exercises, I lay on my stomach and hold on to my ankle and gentle pull back(towards buttocks) just until I feel the tightness, if you do this ever evening just before you go to sleep it helps. you will find that you can pull farther each night and it reliefs some of the rls pain.  good luck, let me know how the requip works for you. please stay in touch
