RLS and Excedrin PM

RLS and Excedrin PM

This is officially day 1 for me after going through an aggressive taper over the last 3 days.  I am exhausted and in serious need of sleep, however, the RLS is driving me crazy.  Got through today ok just cat napping.  So, this evening I took 1 Excedrin PM in the hopes that it would calm things down so I could sleep.  Seems like now the RLS is worse than ever.  I've soaked in the tub until I turned pruney.  Does the Ex PM have something in it that is making the RLS worse?  I feel like I may have taken a step backwards.

History:  4 yr. Roxicet 3/325, Dr. prescribed, was taking 8 per day
Taper schedule: Day 1 - took 3, Day 2 - took 1 1/2, Day 3 - took 1/2, today - none

yes, i have heard that exedrin pm makes it worst...For me i used advil pm and i had RLS so bad that i could not tell if it was w/d's are the medicine...So just did't take it...Try the heating pads on your calves..
i actually slept in the tub on full nite, looked like a prune..
Also put a bar or two or soap in your bed under you calves, i know it sounds crazy but works...i also read somewhere that rubbing alot of bengay on your calves then putting the heating pads helps
hey anything is worth a try...
good luck

I used a TENS unit that I purchased off ebay and put it on my lower back and it helped wonders. If you are unable to attain one a massager helps too. I have an eletric wand that I would plug up and lay on my belly and stretch the cord so it would lay on my calf. It helped quite a bit,but the TENS unit was better. I wish I never let my brother-in-law borrow it because outside of it helping my herniated discs in my neck I had hell with withdrawals last pm. He lost my cords and pads grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

most DME companies have supplies for tens units. i am sure you could reorder. larger pharmacies that carry home health equipment have them too.

My husband could have picked some up at work, but I did not expect to have such a hard withdrawal, acck!! I had a single tiny 1 pad one that I used the first time I detoxed and found the best relief by placing it on my lower back right above my butt, it took enough of the discomfort from both of my legs, but if you have one with multiple pads you could use one on each leg. It really helped a ton.

The medicine you took has caffiene in it.. Check the active ingrdiets in it..

Wow, caffiene in a PM?  Seems like that would cancel out the sleepy effect.  I tried to read the ingredients but the writing was too small.  I guess I just assumed it would be ok.

Excedrin PM does not have caffeine. It is Tylenol with diphenhydramine (benadryl). The regular Excedrin has the caffeine which helps with many headaches. =)

Take straight benadryl (diphenhydramine) 50mg prior to bed time.  Ive relapsed twice this this week unfortunately ( 2days clean, 2 days using, 2 days clean, 2 days using).  The Benadryl did make me sleepy on my day 2 nights. Im starting all over again in moring.  I have some clonidine too.

Magnesium works like a natural form of Valium,  it works like a muscle relaxer. Take 1 teaspoon of Milk of Magnesia at bed time it helps relax you and helps with RLS.
(1 tsp. will not effect your bowels).
I also take 1 tsp during the day if I start getting anxiety jitters.
I also use the " soap in the bed trick", it really does work!  Google it for more info.
Rubbing liquid soap  on your legs does the same thing.
