Rapid Detox

Is there anyone with first hand experience on this subject?  I see lots of ads blinking like crazy on this site and wonder if/how they work.

Personal experience- ugh ugh erk. i wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.
i did it ...oh, must be 9 yrs ago. for methadone (i think 45mg i was on at the time) and heroin use. my parents paid lots of money for it. it was one of the most traumatic horrible experiences of my life. they put me under, but i do remember coming to a few times through the 12 hours and my body being tied to the bed, spasming, vomiting bile through my nose..... etc. it was horrid. the next morning they washed me, dressed me, and my dad carried me to the car. i sneezed and spasmed so much on the drive home he thought i was going to fit and swallow tongue.
for the next week i was so weak he had to carry me around, wash me, toilet me, feed me etc.
it was nasty. i shudder to think of it, and all that money spent. They totally drugged me up on rivi's, xanax, everything, including the naltrexone tabs per day. i was a mutant zombie. i got "counseling" once a week from them, but totally useless.

this prolonged "normal" detox i'm doing now is yuk, but at least i've functioned the whole time!!

it may be ok for some, but i found it ridiculously horrid, and my parents, watching it all, totally agree.

I find these rapid detox stuff questionable. What i mean, the w/ds last for usualy what, 5 days. They can have you detoxed in 10-24 hours? I really wonder just how good you feel after your suposidly detoxed, like 100 percent normal or ?
peace

My fiancee went through a rapid detox procedure at the Waismann Institute in California. We flew to to California and he checked in the same day we arrived. He was given medicine to make him comfortable and then the next morning an anesthesiologist put him under. He was out for I want to say 24-36 hours (I could be wrong on that number as this was several years ago.) When he came out of it, the worst of the withdrawals were over. He still was very weak and had some pretty serious bowel troubles. The main problem that I see with this method, other than the cost, is that there is no real after care plan. However, if you have something waiting for you to treat the non-physical side effects of addiction, it might definitely be a route to choose.

I think his treatment ended up costing around $10,000. This was in 2003, mind you, so I am unsure now.

Hope this helps.

I admire your determination.  Most of us are in the same boat as to why we started -- with legit pain.  I never exceeded my recommended dose and every pill was prescribed.  I find it rather funny that some who post feel a need to explain that they are not the 'typical opiate junkie' ----   I do not think there are any ins co's that cover rapid detox ---- but I could be wrong.   I wish you the best and hope that you will let everyone on the site know what you find out.  I'm sure there are many who would like some updated info.  All the best.

Yeah--I found several places that advertise rapid detox....from about $10K to almost $20K.  I'll have to check and see if my medicare or private insurance covers it and talk it over with my docs...though my pain med doc is just not supportive of my going off methadone.
I am really firmly committed to doing it, however, and just would like to get it over with.
I also cant get over being so pi55ed about not being told.  I should just get over myself, huh?

I checked into this awhile back.  The best one I found was the one in Las Vegas.  They advertise that no one needs to know why you came to Vegas.  The cost was $9800 and is done by a licensed Board certified Anesthesiologist.   I read testimonials that said it worked - one guy was asleep for 10 hours and when he woke up they told him he was clean.  He stayed in the hospital for 3 days and went home.  I have read from people on this site who say they have heard very negative things about the procedure, but don't know first hand.   I personally think that "if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is not good."  I have come to the conclusion that there really is no free ride -- something most all of us would love to have.   There are several of these 'rapid detox' units and I checked one in Florida --- they cost about $17,500.  I ended up using Suboxone which was a big mistake as the withdrawal from it was much worse than it would have been just tapering or going CT off my DOC (Oxycontin.)  The most important thing though, is that you get off the dope ----  no matter what you use to do it.    I wish you all the best.
