Really could use advice

by Attorney, Mar 06, 2008 10:18AM
I've been a lorotab user for about 4 years now, ranging from anywhere from 5-18 pills a day.  I recently realized that it was destroying not only my life, but my ability to care for my family and career. I am now clean, cold turkey, for 9 days and still struggling.  Most of the sypmtoms have gone, but now I am really suffering from panic attacks (to the point where I can't breath and shake very much) and started again with having everything I eat go straight through me (if you know what I mean).

I really thought that after this long I would be feeling better than I am.  Mostly, I am having great difficulty in working (as you can see from my Name I have a pretty stressful job) and taking care of my family (including a 3 year old).

Please someone can you tell me when does this end?  Can this indicate that, after four years, the pills have really just covered a problem that legitimately exists independant from detoxing?  I cant take the panic all of the time and worry about the black, tarry movements that just started the past two days. Sorry to be so direct, but shoud I be concerned and when will this nightmare end??

Thanks for any advice.

Look at he Health Pages in the top right. Thomas recipe and amino acids posts. They can help you start to get back on track. Generic Immodium and eat lots of bananas. It is not uncommon for some w/d symptoms to linger on this long after using for 4 years. Welcome to the forum and GOOD JOB on 9 days!

by feohmoon, Mar 06, 2008 10:24AM
Please check out my forum as I have found a drink that causes those symptoms to subside.  It was recommended to me by a nurse at a detox facility.
Best of luck...continue to post, this helps a lot.  You probably do not want to attend a support group in your area, but this is wonderful.

Great job on 9 days! You have made it past the worst of the physical withdrawals. Each day will get better and better. It takes our mind and body awhile to heal after using for so long. Do you exercise? In my opinion exercise is the number one thing that helped me get through the mental and physical withdrawals. Even if it is just a little walk. It helps so much with energy and with sleep. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water and eating healthy. Like GoingToMakeIt said, check out the amino acids post. There are vitamin supplements that may help to. Just keep going strong! All of this will be in the past before you know it! If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask. There are so many wonderful people on here that can help!

Thanks for postin, I do feel a bit better after reading this. I am 10 days and I just posted the same type of post WONDERIN Is this normal or not?? Am I on scheduloe with the way this is supposed to happen?? I see yes I am and glad to hear it. My physical sickness is over the rough part, but the emotional is not fun either. My hands shake bad as well but slow down as the day goes on. I can actually sit at the keyboard for more than 4-5 minutes, although I do double hit keys and hity two at the same time may sound trivial, but it is not good I have to hide that when out and about. Try to stop at store and pay fopr gas cigs etc. and hands are shakin so bad that I get so daggone embarassed to even hand em anything. You geys really have helped me during tho. Look back at days 1 thru 3. Notice change?? I sure do don't wanna go back. Yiiiikkkkeeeeeesssss. Thank ya!! Just sit on yer hands When u can.. LOL

Thank you for all of your encouragement and advice.  I have been taking a pre-natal vitamin because they say those are the best, so I guess things could be worse without having done this.  Its just that the stress of not being able to take control in my business that is really stressing me the most.  Honestly, I am fine as long as I am not thinking at all of my work....which is hard because I cannot take off and am working throughout all of this ****.  Yes, I know in the long run everything will be for the best, but I have to say that I have yet to feel any better than when I was using.  I know in my head that I am healther for having quit, but I feel that with having to deal with such stress in my work, Domestic Law at that, I dealt much better with it using.

Still going to stay strong knowing that life in the long run will be better.  I would just hope that these feeling of extreme anxiety are not just going to be a part of my life with the type of work I do.  Never really worked at it without the pills so really SCARRY!

Thanks again for everything!

yes this other stuff is normal, every day will get better and better...Kudos to you for working through this, it takes a strong person to do that....SO u should start feeling better real soon...the energy will take a little longer...but 4 yrs is a while, so give it time..
best of luck and hang in there

Look into the supplements. Take vitamins twice a day. Either double up for a while or break in half. feohmoon is talking about Natural Calm with calcium. It is a magnesium drink. Highly effective for your body.

by GoingToMakeIt, Mar 06, 2008 11:04AM
r2r asked about the black tarry substance. I too want to know what you are talking about! If you are talking during a BM. This is not normal and get it checked out!

Congrats on making the first moves. It doesnt quit once w/d's are over though. You may want to investigate something like lexapro - anti-anxiety. Sometimes an anti depressant is indicated. Listen to your Doc and follow advice. Dont worry professionally - after HIPPA your Doc isnt able to reflect on you professionally. I have been speaking with a nurse - 4.0 gp and a Masters - she said she wasnt stupid - just sick. Addiction is a sickness - fortunately sickness can be addressed and cured. Stupid is forever. Build a profile and get some support from this forum - Some others are semi professioanal also and they also got brains and our ejicated 2!!! Fight the good fight!

by GoingToMakeIt, Mar 06, 2008 11:13AM
You would be surprised what types of people are here! All walks of life and types of careers. Addiction knows no boundaries. It is not prejudice at all.

A hemocult test available at Walgreens will tell you whether there is blood in the stool - main consideration of tarry stools - but I am inclined to think that your are just getting straightened out from a nasty habit.Test the stool for peace of mind and keep up with nutrition. See the Doc if you need to. Try and eat properly and possibly use ensure as a supplement. Good luck - eagle out

eagle1950 did you change your name again????

by flmagi, Mar 06, 2008 11:25AM
Black tarry stool is not normal and should be checked out. Chances are its just detoxing but if its something else it could end up being an emergency situation. Please have this checked.
Way to go on getting clean.

If your taking immodium or pepto bismal (especially pepto), black tarry stools can be a side effect (had them myself yesterday).

Eat PLENTY of bananas, french fries (high in potassium), vitamins and continue to seek help here.

I'm on day three and feel better than day 1 or 2, but I was a low user (4 or 5 7.5 pills per day.

You've taken a lot, and your body is resetting.  Listen to the people on here...they are really helping me and can help you.

Yes there are people here from many difference walks of life but we are all addicts as far as I am concerned and you should not take things at face value as you can be fooled. I find egotistical people to me the most stupid of all. There are people here who are having a hard time and just trying to make it another day. Diversity makes the world go round even egotistical people are needed to teach us how we don't want to act. Cheers

by troubleinohio, Mar 06, 2008 01:20PM
the others are right.....the black tarry stools may not be a normal thing....in general that indicates bleeding inside, whether it been from a bleeding ulcer or somewhere in the colon.. with that said, if you have been taking Pepto, it does darken the stool alot and may be from that but i would get it checked to be sure. and btw, i had no idea they sold an over the counter test you can check stool for blood with?? LOL wow! they got tests for everything now i guess..pregnancy, ovulation, urine/bladder infections, drug testing and now bloody poop, lol.

Can you take off and get a complete check up?  the runs are common after detox but black tarry stools can be indicative of bleeding internally somewhere...which could also be dragging you down...get some blood work and see a doc ....I know how u feel tho...I feel this would be so much easier if I did not have to work as I have a stressful job as well...I dont feel like I am doing my best at work at all lately...but it will get better
