Rebound headaches

Rebound headaches

I've been taking Fioricet off and on for years for migraine headaches.  The last few years I have been abusing them with / without a headache.  I'll also mixed them in the past with xanax, but recently (last week) with ativan, klonopin and hydro.  Since I stopped cold turkey on Friday, I have had a constant headache.  Can anyone give me their experience with rebound headaches where you take so much of a medication for one thing (headache) that you actually get headaches from taking it? I realize that it has only been a few days and my body hasn't rid itself of all the toxins, but regular Tylenol just isn't cutting it and I don't want to take anything stronger.  Thanks.

I am an abuser of fiorinal and have experienced constant headaches when withdrawing from this drug. There is a very good drug on the market called "Imitrex" which I now take for my migraines.  It is non-addicting and it is the only medication that helped me when I was going through the withdrawal.  The headache would go away and return but atleast I had some way of coping and you can use Imitrex more than once during the day.  I use the injection but it does come in pill form.  (Although the injection works much faster).

For me it was a good week before my headaches stopped completely. Another idea would be to try to get some fiorinal and taper off it slowly.  That doesn't work for everyone and has never worked for me because I eat them like candy.

I do feel for you because I have been there many times.

Best of luck to you and hope you feel better soon.

I realize in my post I called the medication "fiorinal" and you said you were taking fioricet. As may know fiorinal contains aspirin and fioricet contains acetaminophen.

Just wanted to be sure you knew I was talking about the same drug.

Hi Skillet, Fiorinal or Fioricet contains a healthy dose of caffeine. Caffeine acts as a vasoconstrictor (constricting dilated blood vessels). Unfortunately, abruptly discontinuing caffeine use can result in a caffeine WD headache, where the blood vessels around your skull dilate, causing severe headaches often indistinguishable from migraines. I've learned this the heard way, more than once. The best thing to do at this point is to buy some over-the-counter NoDoze or Vivirin. One pill (200mgs caffeine), plus a lie-down with an ice pack on your forehead, or, better, a cold pack you can lay the back of your head on, usually is enough to interrupt the headache. I have never found that just drinking down cups of coffee works. There's something about the rapid dosing from the NoDoze that does the trick. It'll cost you 2 bucks to find out if it works. I wouldn't hesitate, though. Caffeine WD headaches can go on for days if left untreated. Feel better. I would suggest not combining the barbiturate in Fiorinal with any benzo and/or booze. Risky and doesn't really do much for the high ...

This is embarassing.  My boyfriend, who is on methadone, is unable to sustain an erection.  He says it is nerves.  I'm wondering if the Methadone has anything to do with it.  Does anyone know?

methadone does that to a man's sex life.I am an example of it.
my wife and I enjoyed a great sex life until I started using
opaite again.Methadone has cause me to last about a minute
if I get an erection to start with.It will get better if he
tapers and gets off.Unless there is sex without these abuse sex is dead. For me and experience anyway.I have been clean 16 days
and I had sex for 20 minutes last night.First time in a year.
It will get better if he gets off this EVIL drug.
I went to a psychiatris today and he told me he thought methadone should be banned. He said he has seen more problems with drug abuse from methadone abusers than heroin.I tapered
a little at a time.Took me 8 months to get to 10 mgs. a day. Then I cold turkey'ed.Went thru w/d's and had all the bad symptoms
but today I am 16 days clean.Sex will get better when opiates are removed.

Take it from me I just got off of Fioricet w/ Cod today makes one month and NO REBOUND headaches, I am very familiar as I mixed the same med's you did. You want a simple way to get rid of them, first of all get rid of the fioricet, in the long run it can cause you to have a seizure, for your headaches go get Excedrin WITHOUT asprin (so it won't tear up your stomach) it has caffeine to help the headaches as Fioricet did.  The Barbibruates will take up to 3 - 4 weeks to exit your system, I feel much better now, not one headache or migraine in one month and I haven't had a Fioricet a Xanax a Lortab - nothing but Vitamins and air - it's weird but I'm happy.  Best Wishes.

Opiate use in general will usually kill one's sex drive. Methadone, as you probably know, is a heavy hitter. If he's tapering off Methadone, his drive will probably return soon. If he's on maintenance, you'll need to consult a source such as www.methadone.org to investigate possible therapies. I have never used methadone myself. Good luck.
