Recovering Roxycodone Addict... PLEASE HELP!

Hi, I've never tried to get help from one of these forums, but it's worth a shot. I'm a 95 pound 21-year-old female. I experimented six months ago with snorting (R)oxycodone. My boyfriend and I were stupid and said, "We won't get addicted, let's just try it" and what do you know, six months later, we're both addicted.

I'm only going to speak for myself now. When I first tried it, I would take 15 milligrams (half a pill). I wouldn't use every day, but it went from once a week to twice a week, then within a month I "upgraded" to 30 milligrams (whole pill) and began using a few days a week, and within about three months, it became a daily thing.

After using for about three months, I no longer was able to get the high I had gotten in the beginning. I would try taking one and a half pills (45 milligrams) and sometimes, even two pills (60 milligrams) but that was very, very few times. Also, this was during the fourth month only.

When it got to the end of the fourth month-beginning of the fifth month, up until now (the sixth month), I have been taking a half (15 milligrams) to a whole (30 milligrams) daily. I would take half in the morning/afternoon and the other half at night to sleep, and if I was able to, I would just take one half a day and save the other half for the next day. From the fourth month up until two days ago, when I realized that I am no longer able to get the high I had in the beginning, my only goal when taking them was to not feel like crap. I would only use to get me through the day and to get me to sleep.

Now, two days ago I came clean to my parents and told them everything. They are helping me the best they can. They researched, called doctors-- everything they could do. Last night I went without using any at all and didn't sleep at all. I haven't slept in over 24 hours. I spoke to my parents and they agreed to ween me off by taking one 30 milligram pill and splitting it up into  four quarters (7.5 milligrams) and for the next four days I will take one quarter a day by mouth.

I am finishing college and starting my career in the next two to four weeks. I NEED and WANT more than anything to get off of these. I don't know what to do. I don't now if taking one quarter a day by mouth is going to be be beneficial and I just can't quit cold turkey, it's too painful (even after only one day). I know this is super long and very specific, but I really really really hope someone out there with experience and knowledge of these pills can help me out: What should I do? Should I drink a lot of water? Should I get a substitute pill instead of the one I'm currently addicted to? I just don't know......

You have made a great decision! Even better that you told your parents. Admitting to others is key in your road to freedom. Take a look at the Health Pages here. http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/list?cid=66  Check out the Thomas recipe and even the Amino Acid Protocol. There's a wealth of info in the Health Pages.
Now for the good & bad. Withdrawals are not fun, period. The good news is you have been using for a very short time. You also haven't been using a high dose. This will make the withdrawals less severe and hopefully not lasting as long. Make up your mind now to never use again, and for goodness sake, Don't snort them! Very addictive that way and you can ruin your nasal passages permanently. Count yourself as lucky!

Hi & Welcome,

I don't know that the quarter of a pill is going to help. That is not a taper, really, so it may just either make you want more or you may just continue in withdrawal. To be honest, if you are going to go down that fast and that low you may as well just get it over with. Why drag it out, you know?

If you look at the top of this page to the right you will see the health pages. In there is The Thomas Recipe and The Amino Acid Protocol. They both contain supplements that will help ease the withdrawal. Hot baths will ease the achy muscles. Be certain to stay hydrated and try to eat if you can, even something simple.

The first 3 days are the hardest but you were not on them long and you were not on a high dose so it should not be too bad. It is great that you have your parents to help you.

I hope it is over for you soon. Hang in there.
