I personally think that alot of us want to be Healed NOW!! It does not work that way. If we stay away from ANY mind altering Substances and give our brains time to heal we can see the light. TIME is the word..We have to be very patient and except things as they come because it does get better..BUT The biggest, biggest part for me is I can not go in my old stopping grounds anymore. Like people, places and things that can cause a Trigger at any given moment. As Time goes by we start to learn alot about what Boundaries we must put up..Sometimes we can hurt other friends that still use but it is matter of Life or Death. So I had to make a whole New Life and a whole New World out there for me to continue to live longer. Being that I am no young chic this means my life does depend on my actions. Even if them cravings come I know it will just damage my mind and body even more then it has already did. I want to get better..Going on 11 months now I am still healing so it does take TIME..Some less some more..This depends on alot of things.
Bless
Sometimes a relapse lays the groundwork for complete freedom. That's what this forum is all about- complete freedom.
As an addict, I found that simple abstinence isn't really any fun. Life can easily become meaningless, monotonous and boring. Recovery, which includes complete change in my thinking and then working on growth, trumps all the boredom. I found I had to have a complete program of recovery going, and get with other addicts that are doing the same thing- working on their recovery. The recovering addict is our addiction's greatest enemy.
To improve ourselves takes effort. If I take a break, quit going to my meetings, rest on my laurels, my addiction's going to quickly jump up and bite me on my a-s. Recovery, not just abstinence, is the most important work I do to save my own life. And I'm the only person who can work on it. Nobody can do it for me. I operate like I'm on my last recovery because you never know, it just might be. This is number 3 for me, in the last 4 years.
Take it one day at a time. Today you posted and you're ready to start over. Learn from this relapse and allow it to be what brings about a more rigorous application of a good program of solid recovery. This could be the relapse that actually saves your life. Go for the complete freedom package!
It is hard i am not going to lie but you can do it!!!You were superman i was superwomen!!!! Then it happened!!!!! Before i knew it the pill had control over me, i was spiraling downhill and fast, i was making bad choices, and my friends on here are the ones to convince me to get help. Telling the doc the truth is a great start, and then seek other avenues to help you beat this. Great that you speak to your wife about your addiction, continue to share with her. STay strong and believe in yourself
First I just want to thank you all for taking time to read and give me feedback .... In my mind I know reality is I need time to let things heal.,,...
I guess it's just so damn hard, I told my wife the other night I am superman with the pill it gave me everything ... Until that bottom of the script comes then you are left with the biggest crap hole u could imagine
I plan on telling the doctor the truth ... I just pray this is the last time, but my mind is just not right ..,,, it is scrambling to want the pill
Still it has helped a lot in weaning off the opiates.
What is really not wise is doing the same thing over and over again and expect something different to happen.
Again if you read both posts I did give a warning that it can be addicting.
In my book whatever works to get you off the opiates and Not creating another addiction is a Good thing

Michael, giving advice to people suffering with addictions and suggesting them to take another drug to alleviate cravings is not wise. Kratom, is a drug and has a lot of negative effects.
hey there and good for you coming back for guidance I too had many relapses and i think most of us had, but it's what we do about it that counts. As you have learned getting off the pills was a b!tch but staying clean is the real challenge, you need to give your body time to not crave the pills and when you give into the cravings your body/'brain is going to crave it more. once you get some clean time in the cravings will pass, in the meantime getting to the "root" of why and coming to terms with yourself is a start in the right direction. As for your doc, be honest tell him/her of your problem I'm sure you heard this before but you need to come clean and cut all your sources, as frightening as it sounds it feels so empowering once you walk out of that doctors office. Your energy will come with time, exercise and a healthy diet always helps. This is a long road YES your right, but using is a dead end, so go for it, and join the journey as this road will get better......
Thanks all ... I am going to read up on it , it alleviates the cravings??? Where do u get it at head shops or vitamin shops?
I wanted to add just to use the Kratom to get off the opiates as Kratom can also become addicting.
Michael
I feel your pain. Hang in there! I have no advice as I haven't given up the codeine yet but I'm here to listen and wish u good luck
Well I feel I will bring this up with a grain of salt but in your case you might want to give a herb which is legal called kratom. I do know quite a few opiate users that were prone to a lot of re-lapses use it successfully to finally get off opiates.
kratom does bind to some of the same opiate receptors.
