SOME INFO ON TRAMADOL

I have seen alot of info latley on tramadol some every incorrect .So I thought I would put some infromation together so everyone will have a better understanding of it .

It is addicting
You do have ephoria
It should NOT be used by ANYONE with addiction issues.

What is the most important information I should know about tramadol?
Physical Dependence and Abuse

ULTRAM may induce psychic and physical dependence of the morphine-type (μ-opioid) (see DRUG
ABUSE AND DEPENDENCE). ULTRAM should not be used in opioid-dependent patients. ULTRAM
has been shown to reinitiate physical dependence in some patients that have been previously dependent on
other opioids. Dependence and abuse, including drug-seeking behavior and taking illicit actions to obtain
the drug, are not limited to those patients with prior history of opioid dependence

You should not take tramadol if you have ever been addicted to drugs or alcohol.
Seizures (convulsions) have occurred in some people taking tramadol. You may be more likely to have a seizure while taking tramadol if you have a history of seizures or head injury, a metabolic disorder, or if you are taking certain medicines such as antidepressants, muscle relaxers, or medicine for nausea and vomiting.

Take tramadol exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take it in larger doses or for longer than recommended by your doctor. Do not take more than 300 milligrams of tramadol in one day.

Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. A tramadol overdose can be fatal. Overdose symptoms of a tramadol overdose may include drowsiness, shallow breathing, slow heartbeat, extreme weakness, cold or clammy skin, feeling light-headed, fainting, or coma. Tramadol may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Tramadol should never be given to another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. Tramadol can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Do not stop using tramadol suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, sweating, nausea, diarrhea, tremors, chills, hallucinations, trouble sleeping, or breathing problems. Talk to your doctor about how to avoid withdrawal symptoms when stopping the medication. Do not crush the tramadol tablet. This medicine is for oral (by mouth) use only. Powder from a crushed tablet should not be inhaled or diluted with liquid and injected into the body. Using this medicine by inhalation or injection can cause life-threatening side effects, overdose, or death.

What is tramadol?

Tramadol is a narcotic-like pain reliever.

Tramadol is used to treat moderate to severe pain. Tramadol extended-release is used to treat moderate to severe chronic pain when treatment is needed around the clock.

Tramadol may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking tramadol?

You should not take tramadol if you have ever been addicted to drugs or alcohol, if you are currently intoxicated (drunk), or if you have recently used any of the following drugs:
alcohol;

narcotic pain medicine;

sedatives or tranquilizers (such as Valium);

medicine for depression or anxiety;

medicine for mental illness (such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia); or

street drugs.

Seizures have occurred in some people taking tramadol. Your risk of a seizure may be higher if you have any of these conditions:

a history of drug or alcohol addiction;

a history of epilepsy or other seizure disorder;

a history of head injury;

a metabolic disorder; or

if you are also taking an antidepressant, muscle relaxer, or medicine for nausea and vomiting.

Talk with your doctor about your individual risk of having a seizure while taking tramadol.

Before taking tramadol, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have:

kidney disease;

liver disease;

a stomach disorder; or

a history of depression, mental illness, or suicide attempt.

If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take tramadol.

FDA pregnancy category C. This medication may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tramadol may also cause serious or fatal side effects in a newborn if the mother uses the medication during pregnancy or labor. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Tramadol can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Tramadol should not be given to a child younger than 18 years of age.
Tramadol may be habit-forming. Tell your doctor if you feel the medicine is not working as well in relieving your pain. Do not change your dose without talking to your doctor. Store tramadol at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep track of how many pills have been used from each new bottle of this medicine. Tramadol is a drug of abuse and you should be aware if any person in the household is using this medicine improperly or without a prescription

Actually, it is not legal to order these drugs online without a valid prescription.  I bought them online for the past year before I quit and I looked into it and found out it is indeed illegal.  These online pharmancies often change their email addresses and are very shady but I have always found them very reliable.  Just as PanSinoeis said.....order by 2:00 have them the next day.  That was how I was able to fuel my addiction for so long.

Ugh....I used to spend $130 per week on those horrible little pills.

I don't know how to communicate to the forum site, but I am glad that my posted question was removed.  Again, I apologize for any problems/ideas this may have caused, it was not my intent in any way.

Exactly!   So why, then, would anyone risk jail etc. to get a drug with a fake RX or obviously illicit way when they can get it overnight, legally,(?) and from a licenses pharmacy (I presume?).  This makes NO sense to me.  I am a nurse, but my most recent career has been in home health/geriatrics.  I am very uniformed about this issue, but becuase of what I have just gone through, I am making it my business to learn more....

I don't know why anyone would need fake RX's personally.  No credit card?  Limited to where they can get it probably.

I have written in this forum several times in the past few days about my horrible experience with tramadol.  Where did you get your information, what source?  My Nurses Drug guide (2007) was not nearly as complete as your information, but it sounded like you used a "source" rather than your own knowledge.  I would like to use that source as it is much more concise than anything about the addiction-properties of this drug and withdrawal from it.

Well, I'm still at 9 per day.  I just hope I am able to get off Tramadol 100%.  I want to real bad.  I know I still have Hell to look forward to.  And I have already done a bit of suffering just in my tapering down from taking upwards of 15-20 per day down to 9.  And 9 is not doing a whole lot for me at the moment.  But I hope by Saturday I feel level, I drop to 8!  WoooHooo!!!  8 per day, I'm get excited more and more every time I drop a pill.  And I save like $18 per month every time I drop 1 pill per day.

I'm a recovering alcoholic (12 years "sober") and I was given Tramadol 10 years ago here in Indonesia because it was supposed to be non addictive. I ended up getting addicted to the stuff almost instantly. At my worst I was taking 40 , 50mg. caps a  day with clobazam to damp down the seizures. I used an herb that grows here called Kratom (Mitragina speciosa) to help me get off of Tramadol and it worked. I had tried  to stop the Tramadol by tapering off but the with drawl symptoms were just too brutal. I'd say the with drawl symptoms were reduced by 70% with the Kratom. Kratom is a serious drug that is addictive and illegal in some countries, not a cute herb. It is not an opiate though and it did not trigger any addictive response with me after 2 weeks of use. Between NA meetings and Kratom I'm finally off. I've done just about every with drawl out there and "harmless non-addictive" Tramadol combines the mental terror of a benzodiazipine kick, the seizures of alcohol with drawl and the racking pain and obsession of heroin. Good on you for putting the truth out there about this awful drug.

Tramadol is going to end up becoming one of the worst drug epidemics our country has ever seen.  And a lot of it has to do with Mis-INFORMATION.  I was told by a doctor, these are non-addictive, a step up from your over the counter Aleve, no withdrawals, etc. just like most people are told.  That was in 1999, almost a decade ago.  And people are still being told the same thing today.  It's because they are making money hand over fist on this stuff.  The FDA and medical community has been fully aware of what Tramadol has been doing to people.  They still don't change things, because they are Banking off all us addicts.  Pharmacutical Companies pay people to sell it to doctors, they pay the doctors to sell it to the patients, they pay the FDA to keep it legal, and they got plenty of money to do all that paying, because we are addicted to the crud and have to have it, or SUFFER!   And Tramadol is by far the sneakiest and one of the most dangerous drugs, because it is, oh so easy, to get it.  Then you get people popping 35 pills at once.  People taking 20-30 pills per day.  It can be very dangerous when people regulate thier own pain killers.  But they are going to have to change it soon.  I say we get together, get us a good lawyer and SUE the pants off the mothers!!! ???

oxy,
I think once you have gotten addicted to one substance that it really does make it easier to get addicted to others . I noticed after I quit taking the tram and starting taking supplements I was taking them just like I did with the tram . It was addictive behavior It had become a habit to take pills at different times threw out the day .I finally broke myself of the habit and started to take them all in the am but it was hard to do ,

I am soooo gald you threw the trams away .......

Do you think that addicts get addicted quicker than a non addict starting this med b/c of the additional opiate receptors? I was given a bottle of 30 time released, took 2 and dumped the bottle since it didn't help my pain and I don't want another addiction. I went from a 160mg to sometimes 320mg a day oxy habit (not chewed or snorted) and now am fighting the sub taper. Tramadol can go to hell if you ask me, A friend of mine has been taking them for about 10yrs and even took them during both of her pregnancies. That's how strong of a hold this drug is, and she is a nurse and knows better, Both kids are healthy, thank God. I am quite sure that it does not even help her pain anymore. She probably takes it to feel normal. Great INFO!!!!

Good !!!! -  That would not be helping anyone..

I also have about 3 bottles of them (somewhere), from doctor's previous atmepts to replace them for hydro's (yea right !!!)...they did about the same to me, as you described...they did help with my pain...but they didnt stand a chance against my 18-20 hydro addiction...so I always went back to hydros...

Well, until 13 days ago..nothing now, (-:    ...but you have a great point...

Why replace one addiciton for another, if you fought so hard from the previous doc, and won?

Also...there is NO "little majic white pill", that is going to make anything easier through our addictions, to bring back true life.

Point: Tramadol should really be studied before taking it. For us addicts, we really have to be careful on what we take for our pain...to make sure were not trading one addiction for another,  "just for a buzz"...and especially if it doesnt even work for their pain.

Thanks again avisg for this wonderful post. So many others well benefit from it....

Love,
Todd
