STADOL NS

Let me ask again on my own topic.  Is anyone familiar with Stadol NS?  I'm not asking as a person whom has abused or used for that fact.  I have been told to ask about this medication for my Migraines and I trust the post in this room more than any other on potential addictive meds. Please inform.

i don't know... my doctor prescribed barbiturates by the bucket-loads and told my parents and me that they were addicting when i was 8 years old. needless to say, it's been my drug of choice my whole life. i was taking huge amounts of barbiturates. one of the drugs, butalbital, comes in many formulations that are non-controlled yet highly addicting.

i blame my doctor for being irresponsible. i blame my parents for not doing enough homework on the drugs. however, there came a point where i knew i was an addict and i knew i was engaging in drug seeking behavior. from that point on, i can only blame me. i can only blame t he destruction it did on myself....not the drug companies or doctors. at the end of the day, my doctor prescribed it because it probably WAS safe for 99% of his patients....plus he was treating my pain.....and as long as i said i was in pain, he gave me more.

i just think it's pushing things a little far to sue the drug companies because we become addicts. i mean the slightest bit of research reveals stadol to be an opiate....there's never been an opiate that couldn't be abused or cause a high. it's what they do, period.

the drug still should be a C-II, though.

I started using Stadol NS back in 1994.  I was fully completely addicted within a few short years.  I could easily go through 8 bottles in less then a weeks time.  I basically would live in an almost comatose state while I was taking this drug.  I thankfully was able to kick the habit, but it wasn't easy.  When I first started taking it I was living in Ontario, Canada, but then moved to the State of Washington in 2000.  While I was living in Washington I learned of a Class-Action Lawsuit against the drug company of Stadol NS that was being done in Ontario and Quebec.  I was able to join that lawsuit, and we were successful in our suit.  I unfortunately did end up consuming a lot more of this drug while I was living in Washington though.  I have yet to hear of a Class-Action Lawsuit against the drug company in the west coast.  Is anyone else anywhere of one being done in Washington State?...and if not, is there anyone else out there in that area that would be interested in joining me in trying to get one together?  I too was initially told that this drug was NOT addicting!!  This drug was a major contributor to the demise of my marriage, my miscarriages, and my life in general...as I'm sure it has been to many of you reading this.  I can be reached at ***@**** if you are interested or have knowledge which pertains to what I've been talking about.  I totally feel for all of you who have found yourselves in my shoes as well.  I say we show the drug company that what they did was and is wrong!!  My best to all of you!! 8)

it's amazing to me this isn't a scheduel 2 drug yet...but to be honest it's not widely prescribed, so i guess it's not really a drug of abuse if very few people take it.

I have chronic head pain.  I have had a non-stop headache for 41 years and I also have migraines and clusters.  I have been using Butorphanol Tartrate (Stadol NS) for about a year.  I use about 10 bottles of nasal spray every month and I have had no side effects and no addiction.  I recently stopped taking the drug for a 2 week period and suffered no withdrawals at all.  I have found it effective to relieve my continuous head pain and reduce the severity of migraines and clusters.  It starts very quickly but the effect only lasts about 3-4 hours.  My only complaint is the relatively short duration of pain relief.  I think that for some people it is a good drug.

For the record, Stadol is a narcotic antagonist, which supposedly lessons your chances of becoming addicted to it. ********. It was the best **** I ever took at first, and the most horrible thing to detox off of, especially in a jail cell.

I was given this medication many years ago for headaches. It was misrepresented by the drug company and my physician really had no idea what he was giving me. After using it a few times, I finally got the narcotic effect, which was the most powerful one I have ever experienced. Right at that time, I was teaching a doctor's son, and he asked me what I took for headaches. When I told him, he gave me (unwittingly) 15 full prescription samples of Stadol NS. By that time I was quicklyand totally addicted. After eight months I went to my doctor and told him. To wean me off, he gave me Tylenol 3, which, over a long period of time, replaced the Stadol but was not nearly as good. Also, by that time, now being a full-fledged drug addict, I was able to get Vicodin and Percocet as well. This lifestyle lead me to 12 felony charges in the last five years, which of course are my own fault. However, I would like to say that if I had never taken Stadol NS, I would perhaps not have gotten to this terrible juncture in my life.
I have never taken a stronger, more potent drug, and I have taken a lot of painkillers. This should be at least a Schedule II drug, even though I believe it is not. In a nutshell, it through a huge wrench in my life that is still very much there and horribly difficult to get rid of.

just found this forum tonight. im an "addict" i guess you can say. i have just decided to admit this to myself. i have just come from the e.r. trying to get some stadol. got turned down. i cant find a doctor to give it to me anymore. i have had migraines since middle school. i am almost 40 now! i have been taking stadol over 10 years now. i started out taking only as needed and gradually increased. i wont to quick so bad but i am afraid of the withdrawal phase. to the person who asked about stadol, its a good drug when used properly. its when its used at the wrong times (too often, or to get high) that it becomes a danger. try it if you are in control of yourself. if you have an addictive nature dont. but i thought i didnt either. not trying to scare you. like i said. its a good drug. but its very addictive too. like liquid crack.

Stadol is just really wicked stuff.  Sounds like your husband is experiencing rebound pain.  With narcotics, when it's overused it works for just a little while and then the pain comes back worse.

I got myself off and had been doing pretty well.  Then I tore out my knee and they gave me Stadol yesterday.  Last night I took 4 hits and was feeling no pain and slept really well.  This morning is another story...I felt like hell.  I'm nauseated, have a wicked headache, can't sit still, and am sleepy but can't sleep.  WAY too much Stadol.  I figure I could just take more and the symptoms would go away but I also figure they'd come back even worse as it wore off.  So...I'm back into withdrawl within a damn day.

Grrr.

I just found this website.  I have been using stadol ns for several years now.  I get several bottles per month.  Right now I am wishing I had never seen the stuff. I have a severe migrain that started 5days ago. I tried to take something else for the pain but on day 2 I gave up on that
So.....I took stadol and I took stadol and I took more stadol and now the migrain is worse and I am almost out of stadol. I take it, my pain eases for a few minutes then BAM the pain is back and it brought a train with it.  I am to the point that I can not handle the pain. As I type this I am in one of those rare few minutes that my headache is dulled, but it will be back.  My husband is going to take me to the Dr. this afternoon....God I hope they can help me. I hurt so bad!

I just found this forum tonight. I won't go into all the details cause it would take up way too much space but the bottom line is my husband is trying so hard to go without Stadol. We have been through this over and over. he actually left to go work out of town for a few days because if he's around the Stadol, he will use it no matter what. Even when he gives it to me to keep, I end up giving it back when he's in pain. Now I never know when he's really in pain or just craving it. How are you doing, River?

Found myself addicted to stadol recently.  Was prescribed 3 bottles every month for severe migraines.  Then I hurt my back and took it for that.  Now any little pain and I hit the bottle.  It makes the pain less and I just don't care about anything so don't get upset.  The craving sucks at the moment.  I've never been addicted to anything before.  Really thought it couldn't/wouldn't happen to me.  My therapist told me it was stupid of them to just give a bunch of bottles to someone who struggles with depression and PTSD on top of migraines.  Seems I was ripe for the picking.  But it really has become the only thing that controls the pain.  Over the last month or so my depression has gotten significantly worse.  Big surprise Stadol is a depressant.  So...told my therapist the truth about my use, gave my remaining bottle to my partner to give to me only for "legit" uses and am sitting in front of the computer wishing I hadn't done any of that.  Plan on doing this myself and the addiction tx programs aren't my style.  If anyone does have any info on how to lessen the withdrawl symptoms I'd also like to know.

Thanks,
River

Be very careful with Stadol....that is how my whole addiction started...... I went to the dr with a headache, he diagnosed migraine and gave me a shot....at first i felt terrible, dizzy nauseated and wished i could just sleep....but then came more shots....then the dr said that she would just have me use the nasal spray so I wouldnt have to go in for every headache. I ended up using so much of this stuff....a bottle would last a day then i would search and get more......without much a problem. I Still do use it for occasional migraines, but very occasionally like once every few months at the most. I felt like **** for a few days but no where compared to trying to get off vicoden.  Im not ready to share my story just yet....trying to think things thru. It is very refreshing to see the honesty of all the posts and the comments from Dr Steve. The hardest part of all of this addiction is that I am a nurse......and that makes the self esteem go way down, which causes drug abuse to go up, etc etc.. If you have had addictions in the past, or have an addictive personality, I would say no to the stadol ns and just go to the office and get a shot when needed. Stadol also has an thing i cant remember what its called agonist or somethng like that, same as nubain and talwin nx.   If youre already addicted to another narcotic, it can make you go into withdrawals and high at the same time.....not a pleasant high....good luck with your migraines and they do have a new triptan drug on the market....i think axert or something like that you might want to try. migraines suck, addiction sucks way worse.
good luck to all of you

Has anyone been associated with a recovery program for Stadol NS addiction? If so, which one? Did you get a benefit from this recovery program? I have terrible withdrawal symptoms after using 4 bottles of Stadol NS over a 6 to 8 day period. Is there anything that I can use to make the withdrawal symptoms less? Can anybody tell me about the Stadol NS litigations that were supposed to have begun this week?

Stadol was a couple years ago for me......REALLY BAD STUFF....take only for migrane....then throw it away
Ive done oxy....ETC....never felt as nasty as I did from that stuff....works fast....then you fall down fast.......not a really pleasant place to be....You'd probly be better off at the emergency room for a real bad migrane.....I get migranes that start with visuals....and a real tense feeling....the best is to lay down in the dark with asprin...or maybe a little help... with a cold cloth.....Do this as soon as possible and you can keep the migrane from building up to a big one.

Hang on! Yes, detoxing brings us down to a very basic level of feelings.  I'm cold, I'm hot , I hurt, I got the sh*ts and etc. When the dope starts to leave the body and mind, all kinds of simple thoughts and feelings begin to rush in. We are waking up!

This just isn't "normal" for us and the first thought is to take something. When we do that, we are king of the hill for a while but...are we? What are we?

hey people:
9 days no oxy. god allmighty does my neck hurt. had a real busy
day yesterday. up at 3:00 AM to see me wife to the airport, work,
swimming, and walking the dog. for all my effort all i got was
3 hours of sleep.

You know something good might happen today- if only my eyes can
see it. this detoxing isn't the best state of mind to be in, but
i believe it is the simplest- if i can only see....

hey, I don't know a thing about stadol, however, I looked it up and in recent years it has been very much abused, they thought it didn't have much of an addictive trait, however, over the last two years, many people have become dependant on it........ plug it in to google, I got a lot of results, good luck.

i've been reluctant to address your question because i have very
little expierence with stadol. 25 years ago i was diagnosed with
migraines, so i sympathise with you. as it turns out my so called
migraines were really due to cervical spine trouble.

Ok, about what i know about stadol. a junkie nurse i knew years
ago gave me 1/2 dozen single injection vials of stadol. at the
time stadol was under any dangerious drug control. i did 4 of
the ampules in one injection. got myself zip, nothing happened!
i deemed the stuff bullshit for my "needs."

but what have you got to lose, it may work for you. all i know
is that it did absolutely nothing for me. there is just nothing
like a good vascular head ache to put me in the mood for suicide
quicker, so you do have my sympthay.
