STOP WITHDRAWLS!!! READ THIS!!!

HI all this is my first post on any forum like this but after readng some of your posts i thought this might help some of you out there,

I have had chronic back pain for the past 2 years and have been tried on many pain meds from codine morphine and finally oxycodone, now after a year of high 120mg + per day dose's to maintain a pain free life ive found it hard to live without them and often wake in the mornings in agony and craving them like mad.

I recently went to my GP to get help for ever stronger pains in my legs due to nerve damage in my back when he refused to increase my dose of oxycodone he gave me an anti epeliptic drug called GABAPENTIN, that day i started my 3 a day dose and to my supprize in the morning when i woke where id normally have rly bad cravings and terrible aches i woke calm ache free and no knotted feeling in my stomach ( i still had my back pain but thats due to real pain not withdrawls)

i was slightly puzzled by this so read up on this GABAPENTIN and found out in trials it has been used to treat withdrawl (withdrawal) symptoms of many illict drugs such as cocain heroin alchol and so on infact i dont think there was a drug on the list that wasnt in some way relieved by it, Another good thing is that it has minimal side effects( non ive noticed)  and doesnt interact with any other medication.

so if any of u out there are finding it hard to cope with withdrawls or wanting help with getting off your meds id recommend asking your doctor about this fantastic drug GABAPENTIN it has done me the world of gd and i have managed to reduce my dose of oxycodones from 120mg + a day to a nice lower 20-30 mg a day in the space of 2 days

i do hope this helps some of u out there and good luck on your recovery

Cheers Andy

Is this a perscription drug that has to be given by DR? I want some :).

That's very interesting. For those with benzo issues and the fact that Gaba is strongly involved, I would suspect it could possibly be helpful for those wishing to withdraw. I will research it as as well
Thanks for the interesting info.   Steve

np i thought it might help i know how difficult n painfull withrawal is, as i say from what i have read on the subject it works on most drug withdrawals so should help with benzos too.
its definatly helping me tho

the GABAPENTIN that im on is a prescription drug so yes you would need to speak to your doctor but as far as im aware Gabapentin (Gabapentin being the active ingredient) is non habit forming.
i however dont know about the pregabalin form tho

Apparantly its generic neurontin from my google search. Theres also another Rx med called pregabalin known to help specifically with benzos, but the down side are its' side effects and habit forming potential.  Steve

I found this to be used for alcohol, methanphetimine, and cocaine dependence.. They actually sugest it not to be used for opiates and benzos.. or any other addiction than alcohol or stimulants. IT is used in what is called the Prometa Treatment Protocol..

I have a few gabapentin here ... my doc gave it to me when the oxy stopped working (rather than increasing the dose) .. but the Gabapentin did not do much for my pain so I ended up back on higher doses of Oxy.  I have not taken any of the Gabapentin since I have been off Oxy (10 days now) ... maybe I will try and I'll let people know if it helps lift me out of this lethargic, depressive fog.

It says it works on the GABA part of your brain which is the "relaxing" part so it may not help the lethargy.. but it may help with the depression.

I guess to each is his/her own..but for me, that neurontin made me feel like I was swimming in glue...it made me sick and paranoid, too. I didn't like it one bit. I still have about 50 of them sitting in my cabinet. But hey, if it works for someone else, go for it!

It's also called neurontin.  If you google it it actually says "what does neurontin NOT treat?"
I take it also and find it greatly reduces restless legs etc but the key is to take it regularly not sporadically.

Nuerontin is used for many things, like bi-polar, nerve pain and even anxiety. It does has aslight zoombie effect but works for some people. It helped me with anxiety but as usual the lazy docs just kept me on it and it turned on me in a way. The HMO paper pushers just give you drugs to shut you up and often don't re-evaluate them.all the best

JUST TO CLEAR THIS UP THE DRUG I AM TAKING IS NOT I REPEAT NOT!!! NEURONTIN WHICH IS IN THE SAME GROUP BUT NOT THE SAME, GABAPENTIN IS ITS OWN CHEMICAL AND IS GENERIC AS GABAPENTIN NOT NEURONTIN SO PLEASE ALL THAT KEEP SAYIN THAT ITS NEURONTIN ITS NOT, BOTH MY PARENTS ARE IN THE MEDICAL PROFESSION AND HAVE GOT HOLD OF THE DRUGS BOOK THAT DOCTORS USE TO PRESCRIBE MEDICATIONS AND THEY ARE BOTH SEPERATE CHEMICALS AND DO DIFFERENT THINGS.....

PLS PLS STOP CONFUSING THE TWO. YES SAME CHEMICAL GROUP NOT NOT SAME CHEMICAL OR DRUG

HOPE THIS CLEARS THINGS UP
IF YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR AND GET THEM TO HELP YOUR WITH YOUR PROBLEM

my use of oxycontin if for back pain and what i noticed from taking the gabbapentin is i had no withdrawls in the morning when i woke up which i would normally be in chronic pain and all knotted up in the pit of my stomach.

Please let us know how you do on this drug when you are not taking any opiates, even 20 to 30mg.  if that is your goal.  I am interested in how it will work as a complete replacement to pain-meds.  Thanks, Cliff

My doctor perscribed me the Gabapentin for pain releif. I usually take hydrocodone. I had horrible side effects. Very bad mood swings, extremelyl angry, depressed, and anxious. Couldn't sleep, eat, rapid heart rate, total anxiety attacks. The only thing that would settle me down was hydrocodone. Maybe it was just withdrawls from not taking the hydrocodone, but I never went over 1 day without hydrocodone. Only missed doses during the day. After 14 days I stopped taking the gabapentin and felt like a million bucks.
There are cases pending right now for bi polar people who have taken gabapentin and commited suicide and some that tried.
I guess if you're not mentally "stable" it's not a good drug to take.
But great if it helps you.
Now I'm taking cymbalta a anti-depressant to help taper off hydrodone and it's helping much better.

... which is case and point how different drugs react with different people. completely.

i took Cymbalta and had HORRIBLE side effects.

everyone is different...

Jeez, I just read up on this Gabapentin medication and the list of possible dangerous side effects gave ME the sweats!!!
I suppose if you're lucky enough to avoid one of the 34 side effects, or the 9 dangerous side effects, it works really well!!!

Gabapentin or Neurontin its trade name from Pfizer actually mimics the bodys or brains own reward system known as Gaba Gama Amino Butyric Acid hence the name GABApentin however it does not lock into the same receptors according to the full prescribing info it is not known how it actually functions as is the case with many drugs but in double blind placebo studies has shown remarkable capabability in stopping cravings in any drug dependence. Prometa which is just a trademark for a protocol using 3 drugs that have been around forever flumanzenil-originally used for overdose of benzodiazapines gabapentin-originally designed for seizure and hydroxazine-an antihistamine one of the first synthesized these three used together by an MD who prescribes for its use will be using the Prometa protocol not FDA approved as of yet.
