Saw a natural herb doctor today. have important question.

first ill start by saying, hi everyone! how are you all doing today?! so today i saw a natural doctor to see if there was a natural way to help with my pain management and first let me just say the woman was incredibly supportive and kind. i dont know a lot about herbs and natural remedies so im hesitant to start even though she said everything was safe and non addictive which is what i needed to hear. she put me on a daily amino acid regiment. she also put me on a couple vitamins such as iron and potassium.  she also put me on a no dairy diet, which will be heard for me cuz i normally drink about 5 glasses of lowfat milk and i LOVE cheese. but if it helps, then ill do it. i will be doing acupuncture, and she also gave me this leaf extract that starts with a K i cant spell it...it is like kraytome or something like that... she said it does something with the opiod receptors and gives you energy and a pleasant mood in small doses and in high doses a sedative effect that will take care of any physical pain and works for emotional pain as well. anyone ever take it or heard of it? she said it also helps a lot of people through opiate withdrawal. i have never heard of it and find it very hard to believe there is something the great without a catch and actually works. please any advice good or bad would be great. i plan on taking it tomorrow after i do A TON of research, but i wanted to come here first to get everyones thoughts and opinions. also does anyone out there take anything else that hlps with pain? specifically joint pain and forsome reason my skin is so sensative and even hurts to just lightly touch...
help me?

Hi Kristen,

I actually don't have any advice for you, I just wanted to say that I'm happy you have found a compassionate Dr who is helping you. Great to hear about Mason. I'm sure you two will be very happy and relieved once this part of your life is over.
I wish both of you all the best,

Nick.

hey guys,
thank you all for your responses. sorry i didnt get back quicker. i am really working my recovery plan and have spent most of my time either at meetng, my my addiction specialist and talking with mason as much as possible. but to let you know what happened with the herb: the natural doctor had given me a sample to try, but after doing some research and reading all your posts, i decided i was not going to risk my sobriety ove something like this especially combined with the meds im on. it sounds dangerous. and sounds a lot like opiates- which im not yet in a place to have temptation in front of me, in my hands. i returned the herb to the doctor and she is going to work on a new plan. by the by, mason loves his treatment facility, as i did too. he looks great, he is happy, and has really taken every opportunity given through the program! i miss him a lot though. but i know he needs this. well, thank you again everyone!

Kratom is a plant grown in thailand and it is illegal there...it is very mild and i used it for pain during and after detox..there is some cruddy stuff on the market tho so u gotta be careful..doesnt taste too good and i used to mix it with a cup of green tea..can be abused..i never had a problem with abusing it and i did enjoy it...just sumpin to use caution with as with everything we take or drink.

lots of supps help with pain..omega 3 helps alot with inflamation...gtm turned me onto a supp called ashwanda (SP?) and it helped as did kava kava cos it calmed me...theanine in good chinese tea also has a great calming affect...calcium and magnesium before bedtime is also a great sleep aid and relaxes the muscles at night,,a good glucosamine supp helps with arthritic pain....phenylalnine as well as SAMe (methionone is cheaper) are 2 aminos known for pain relief...tyrosine for energy that fibromyalgia patients need so badly....5htp helps with slep and depression so in a way with pain as well...the list goes on and on and I did alot of research on this being a chronic pain patient myself..ice is one of the best and most immediate types of pain relief/better than heat in reality but sometimes heat hits the spot/infra-red heating pads are more therapuedic than the regular ones/i got an infr-red sauna and I am bombarded with friends and faily that want to sit in it cos it takes the pain away/..yoga is one of the best pain relief activities that I have found to work with my DDD..inversion therapy as well...maintenance with chiropractic at least monthly also helps me...there is very effective pain relief that does not involve narcotics...just gotta try them and give them a chance

I read that post on kratun (kraton) i forgot how to spell it exactly.  It sounds a bit scarey for a "tea"....  do some googleing and it will popup.

hmmm, sounds interesting. my brother treats people with herbs and vitamins.
the minerals will help your joints immensely and maybe that will take away the pain. this lady is going after the cause of the pain and so soon you may not need anything for pain at all.

i injured my back a few times and have - no had- chronic pain. i started taking notes with the weather. it was worse if the humidity was high. i was really stiff if the temperature was really cold. and rainy days were just hell.
so i moved out to the desert. phoenix. and the pain is gone.
it will hurt if i wear bad shoes, or just plain do way too much. my physical therapist verified the humidity thing. that is why alot of people move out here. and it works!!

a note of caution with the herbs. do not underestimate their potency.
good luck, sounds like a plan...

One thing the people told me that was into the herbs is that it is all herbs or nothing know what i mean, you either completly commit to it or dont do it at all. You got some real good advice, DO RESEARCH YOUR OWN, we addictics know better than anyone you shouldnt put anything into your body until you know what it is going to do!!

Google it, it shows up and talks in detail about out, to high of dose makes you sick, throw up etc. It is grown on 3 islands in the pacific and is legal here but illegal in alot of other countries. There is no free ride,do your research on this one..Also if your on any type of benzo or Anti ,make sure you really do your research before herbs and most important talk to your Dr....
