Self detox

Hi i've been taking Lortabs for about 2 years now in the past i was able to stop when ever i wanted to but now i have been taking them so much anywhere from 4-10 pills per day i have been sending anywhere from $200-500 every 2 weeks on pills and it has gotten out of control so now i need to stop i only have like 10 pills left and i don't wanna go thru withdrawals because i've been there and its hard from the Diarrhea to the mental thinking of wanting them to depression and headaches that just won't go away and i want to cut down the withdrawals if i can i don't want to go into a drug rehab program because i don't want my boyfriend to find out how bad it is but i do need to at least stop taking them first then get professional help to keep me off of them so can anyone help me because i dunno what to do and i need to stop for my Kids sake and to save money and i can't keep lying to the people i love

Tapering is a great way to stop...and minimize discomfort..but for most u still feel the wds...just not as inensely...but for some it can drag the proces out..everyone is different

It takes alot of discipline to taper..most addicts lack this when it comes to their doc...i was awful at it...even when i let someone hold my pills for me..i still cheated...but i quit on my designated QUIT day...but the 10 day taper just kinda helped me realize how little control i had..and helped re-inforce the need to stop..i was at 100 mgs a day of hydro...took 70 mgs the day before QUIT day

The ideal taper is slowly//cutting back like 5 mgs a week...but few true addicts can hang that long without caving..i remember so many times trying to take less//only to take more due to the stress of trying to take less!  Many physically addicted taper well///mentally addicted and physical/the addict has more trouble...but it is worth a shot...40 mgs is not huge..if u survive on 40 perhaps start there....and then go down...

however u do it..making a plan is important...posting here helps too cos there is alot of support here,

Hi danielle,

The best way for you to minimize withdrawals is to taper the pills that you have left.  You will feel some discomfort and w/d during this time.  Try taking just one  or two pills the first day, then reduce by 1/2 the second day, down to 1 the third - I did this a few times and just took a half a couple times per day to take away the worst part of the w/d.  Once you get down to just 1/2 for a whole day, you can drop off with minimal withdrawal.  You will still go through some, but the worst part should be over in a 2-4 days at this point.  Read the Thomas Recipe in the Health Pages on the top right of the page - it has some good information and suppliments that can be taken to help too.  Most of all, keep posting, there are tons of great people here who have been where you are and will support you.
