She relapsed

Please forgive the spelling if I spell something wrong. My wife started taking loritab after a root canal. She finally broke down and told me over a month ago. She had a rough weekend and told me that she had quit taking them. Today she told me that she has started takingthem again. She went to the doctors office and told them that her back was hurting. So he gives her the pills and she starts again. At least this time she says she is only taking two a day because she can't shake the habit. The problem we have is that she cannot miss work. And I work in law enforcement and never thought I would be helping my wife through this. She is the most important thing to me and I cannot stand to see her crying and asking for help and I cannot do anything for her but be there.

The question is what can I do to help her through. What should she drink, eat, etc. I have stocked up on water, juice, and vitamin water. We have set the day for Thurs when she stops taking them. She knows it is going ot be rough and hard but she knows I will be there with her. What can we expect during the first couple days.  Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

hello and welcome to the forum.food should be anything she has a taste for.. a good product to try for restless legs this is where her legs will be bouncing..  Hylands restful leg.. you can purchase it at walmart or a drug store.. I bought a knock off it provided relief.. benedryl for runny nose and maybe help sleep a little.. walking is a huge benefit as will help with the legs anxiety and depression.. she may need to force herself but so worth it..sleep will be a issue for a few days.. I hope the benedryl works.. if not you can try Valerian Root and Melatonin 5mg these are natural products you can also get at walmart the valerian root can be taken during the day as it help's with anxiety..  do not have her take these with the benedryl though.. Your wife can do this.. and it is so important that you are supportive..you will both get through this together.. many have been told loritab is non addictive only to find out it is.. my own Dr. tried to offer me these with out knowing the addictiveness of them.. be careful in the future and research any pain med given.. I wish you both well.. lesa

Only other thing i can add to this is have her get some sort of aftercare.  That is very important too.  Keep us posted on how you are both doing.  Maybe she will feel comfortable coming on here too.          sara

Immodium, heating pad,otc pain meds, ( clonidine if possible & a few tranzene cut in quarters,) Dr.'s prescrip. needed for those two.  She will ache, have sweats, chills, nausea, diarreaha.  These are just possibilities, perhaps the withdrawls won't be so hard for her.  She will need hot baths or showers, perhaps have restless achey legs arms ect.  She can do this, it is doable and she can be free from all the pills.  Tell her to get on here and post, ask questions.   Look for the Thomas recipe, in the Health Pages.   Read the others' posts.    She is not ALONE.

Ella                                  others will post soon
