Should I be afraid?

I am 22 years old and do not use any drug regularly. Last night, I experimented with cocaine (which I will most decidedly never do again!) and experienced a very scary increase in pulse rate, shortness of breath and nausea that lasted about 2 hours. I wasn't sure if I was going to have an actual heart attack or whether I was just having a panic attack or what. I have since been able to sleep and eat, but I am still really scared. I have 2 questions:

1. Its been 13 hours since I last used the drug and my heart rate is down, but I'm still scared for some reason. Do I have any reason to be? If something serious was going to happen, wouldn't it have happened already?

2. If you go to the hospital or contact a doctor for a drug overdose, do you get in legal trouble?

You are protected by heppa laws.  They can turn you into anyone.  Stay away from the coke.  It is a hard addiction to beat so don't go there.

honey, i doubt you need to see a physician. it will just take some time for the side effects to pass. if you feel you need to go for your own piece of mind just schedule an appointment and go in with your symptoms. they will not turn you in they cannot do that. you are protected from anyone getting your information through hippa laws. your physician should be discreet. that is no problem. i am a nurse and i am certain of this.

first of all, any amount is bad, i started out just with a line here and there. i progressed to an 8 ball every other day. (3.5 grams). i really think you'll be fine now, but once again, im telling you, don't touch it again. marcatg, you are right, this is the devils drug, it takes your soul.

well, honestly, if you don't feel ANY different now, you likely just got a good scare.  but if you have any doubts (are having any after effects) then you should go get checked out..

that's pretty common after doing coke, especially for the first time.  it was never my drug of choice, but in the 20's i did my fair share here and there, and that's exactly how it felt sometimes.  it's a pretty evil drug to tell you the truth (not that there's a good drug, but..) i always called it the devils drug... it's pretty bad, what it does to people...

just don't do it anymore.  sounds like you will be just fine...

keep talkin to us if you are nervous, hun...

listen hard. you were lucky. it is much more than caffeine. i had a friend who had used for years. the next dose..no different than any other and he was dead of a heart attack...at 23. the same dose and coke everyone else was doing. you are out of danger now as it is short acting. but remember the next dose could be your last. this is true of anyone.

How much did you do?

When you do cocaine it DOES increase your heart rate.. its kinda like caffine..  it makes you sweat and get rushes/highs..  I think since its been 13 hours you should be ok.  You may still have some in your nose so you could be experienceing some "extended release"  but for the most part its over..  let me know how you feel

I think they have someone come talk to you.. not sure tho..  not sure if its actually illegal trouble..

first of all, im glad your scared. cocaine is an evil drug, and i just recently kicked my 5 year habbit. yes cocaine increases your heart rate extremely, and coming off of it does feel like a panic attack. i believe these syptoms were just part of the using as i experienced them all the time. PLEASE PLEASE, listen to me, don't touch this **** again, PLEASE, you don't want to go through what i did, and i promise you, if you continue and experiment, you will be hooked shortly, very shortly. i would have bet everything this could have not happened to me, but cocaine is extremely dangerous and extremely addictive. you will be fine, as i said these symptoms occur all the time with coke use, but they get worse, believe me, PLEASE don't touch this again. im here if you have any questions. chris

Unfortunately, you are not protected by the HIPAA laws if an illegal substance is on your person or involved.  No, other people will not be privy to your medical information except for Healthcare Personnel, however, the authorities will be called in most situations like this.

IF you live through this again, as it sounds like you are sensitive to coke use, the reprecussions could be great.

Please stay away from it.  It is not worth the frightening experience.

call an ER if you are scared.  you don't have to give your name.. or go into one.  if you are scared, maybe that is the only thing that will relieve your fears...

i'd hate to tell you not to go if you really need to.  if nothing else, you'll feel better you went.  trust me, you won't be the first 22 year old who's gone in there nervous because they tried a new drug...

it may give you peace of mind to go in...

Thank you so much for your advice. I really had/have no idea what I was getting into and certainly have no desire to go through any of that again. I want to call a doctor just to make sure that everything is ok, but I really don't want to get in trouble. Does anyone know how this works?
