Should I take suboxone

Hello, I have a situation that I hope someone who went through the same can help. I have been taking six 10/325 norcos a day for 5 years now. Since I had surgery, I feel I don't need them anymore and told my doctor. He gave me 2 mg suboxone strips and after reading all the suboxone horror stories, I am deathly afraid to get hooked on these. I know I will have norco withdrawals since I tried to quit a few weeks ago cold turkey and it was too bad. Is it better for me to just deal with the norco withdrawals or try maybe half of one strip when it gets bad? I don't know what to do. I know that I can't keep taking these pills.

it is your decision i can share with you my experience with both . i took sub about two yrs ago and i came off opiates, i stayed on it for 6 months and tapered off it without any horror stories. i had back surgery and became addicted t percs and stopped ct with the support of this site , na and my family i got through it. for me kicking the perc was more difficult in terms of the w d. look into and decide for yourself but either way you are on a good road , stay strong and keep posting..... it would help with the withdrawl. however you will then become addicted to that.  take in to consideration do you really want to be clean totally clean. then the best why is cold turkey.  it is so hard and make sure u have nothing in the house you can take.  800mg advil will help u out

Mellie4 is right. Each person has a different experience. I've gone ct from oxycontin and this time I'm doing a fast taper. I'm finding that the taper is a more realistic approach for me personally, others will say they would fail if they tapered. Depends on mindset, type of addiction, and our overall being as individuals. I think whatever choice you make will be the right answer and choice for you!

I feel for you.  Only you can decide whether to do the suboxone or not.  But whatever you decide, research it and make your own decision.  There's people who say it's way worse than coming off pills if you're on it too long, and then people who say it saved their life.  I'm tapering, but when the times comes for me to stop, I'm going to make sure I'm ready.  Have the house cleaned, meals pre-made, and get all the things people say make things a bit easier.  Personally, I chose to not to do the suboxone or methadone, though both were suggested.  I decided to taper and that's what's working best for me.  Best of luck.
