Showers and withdrawals...

I was wondering if anyone here knows if showers help with the withdrawals.  Currently a shower is the last thing I feel like taking, but if it will help, I will drag myself to do it.

Baths are the trick if you ask me- hot soaking baths to soothe the aching muscles.  Yep- and also part of the Thomas Recipe.

That's what "they" say.  My Dr. had suggested warm showers before going to sleep to help relax me during w/ds - never did get around to it though.  Give it a try, it should help even though it doesn't feel like it would.

You know what- the WORST part is actually getting up, out of the chair, going into the bathroom, turning on the hot and cold water (mostly hot), sitting there, aching body and then hopping in.  But it does relax the tense muscles and even though I am only inexperienced with 72 hours under my belt, I firmly believe it's helped me make it past the first 24!!!  The thought of it is actually worse than doing it- trust me....

"My Dr. had suggested warm showers before going to sleep to help relax me during w/ds - never did get around to it though." Since you never got around to it how can you knock our advice?

Showers helped me a lot. Baths were the best though! I know how you feel , I had to be pushed in and then I was so thankful that I did it. It helps with the sore muscles and just generally makes you feel good. So, try the hot baths..as hot as you can stand it..as long as you can stand it.

Thanks for all of your posts everyone:)  One problem, I only have a shower, not a bathtub, lol, but I will try the shower routine, I'm also gonna try immodium as people have said that it helps with the runs, though if anyone does know, I read that the immodium has an oppiate agonist involved, and there have been accounts of it being hard to get off of too.  Any imput would be greatly appreciated.

For those first couple days a hot bath was absolutely a necessary thing to do.  Calms the shakes, and just makes you feel better.  Eventually by the second night I went to a local gym and sat in the sauna for 20 minutes and then the spa for almost an hour.  Another addition that seemed to help the mental side of things for me was music.  I put in my headphones and played my "laid back" playlist while sitting in the spa.  It really takes your mind off things.  I've found music to be a great tool for getting through the first week.  As long as you keep it upbeat.  I don't know if this will work for everyone, but I'll take whatever I can get, as long as it's non-narcotic, to get through this malaise.

8 days... going on the rest of my life.

Take the immodium as directed and you'll be fine - it will fix the stomach issues and might help other wd symptoms as well do to it being an opiate (it doesn't break the blood/brain barrier, so it doesn't affect the head).

Thanks guys, I appreciate your quick response:)  I will try both, the music sounds like a good idea, because even something as simple as writing to you guys helps put my mind at ease.  Leaving work, be home soon, talk to you all then:)

"That's what "they" say." this is what i was referring to. I thought you meant the people telling him to take a bath. If you meant the "they" in general I apologize.

:-)  I meant "they" in general - and I'm sure "they" are correct - about both showers and baths.  I just couldn't get myself to do it.  No problem!  I'm so glad I'm 6 months clean and look forward to a shower - just to get clean :-)
