Single mom, dependent on norco/vicodin, help with weaning off PLEASE

Hi all. I'm a 32 year old single mom of an 11 year old with high functioning autism and a 2 year old. For the past year I've been prescribed vicodin, norco and finally percocet from pain due to ovarian cysts and severe scar tissue. I finally had a hysterectomy in May of this year. The pain in now gone, but I am having the worst time getting of the pain meds. I am down to 2-4 10mg norco a day. I've tried the cold turkey route, and I just can't do it and take care of my kids and work.... I'm a teacher in charge of a summer camp with 30 kids!

I have talked to my doctor who put me on a wean off schedule, which I did good on until I got down to the 2 a day. I KNOW I have hit bottom. I'm stuggling with turning from the goody goody teacher/mom I have always been to feeling extreme guilt about the methods I'm going through to get these meds! I hate who I've turned into.So yesterday my best friend took my remaining meds and she is helping me wean off. The hardest time of day for me is in the morning. I work from 7am -1pm so used to take the most at that time. Since this is the case should I wean myself that way? Shorter time between pills in first half of day and longer later? I'm usually in bed by 9pm and if I take anything after 6pm I can't sleep. I have clonidine and xanax for anxiety and was looking into getting the amino acids that were suggested on here.   ALSO I had gastric bypass 3 years ago.... which affects absorbtion of everything!

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Hi and welcome to the forum.  I am so glad you found this site as there is so much support and encouragement here.  You are doing a really good thing by wanting to get clean.  I dont know about tapering as i went ct but more will be on.  This is the weekend so may be slower.  Keep checking tho.  I just wanted to welcome you and let you know we are here for you.                          sara

My son also has high functioning Autism.  It is so demanding in itself without all the other pressures you have of being a single mom.  You are courageous! I have only been on the right track for a few days, but I am praying for you.  Thank goodness you have a friend you trust to  help.  Hang in there.

you can try going to half taps to continue the slow tapper but at 2 a day you should not be down that long if you went CT but half taps start wtih halfing your afternoon ones then when your body gets used to that than your morning then drop one dose at a time leaving your morning for the last to drop.
