I remember "back in the day" as they call it, when tasers didn't exist, so they used fire hoses on folks during the days of civil rights events, and billy sticks.  I also remember a time at Kent State when the National guard simply shot 4 Vietman protestors dead.  Protecting themselves against those dangerous peacefully protesting students I guess.  A few flowers were put in a few rifles, then the **** hit the fan.  Crosby Still & Nash (don't rememeber if Young was with them yet) wrote quite a tune about it "Four Dead in Ohio".

There has always been an overbalance of the use of authority and its never been cool.   It's not like they could not have stopped that sudent from expressing his constitutional rights to free speech in a less violent way

Way to go Savas!!:) I totally agree. It would have been worse if he went quitly cause thats just enforcing to the government and to cops that we do whatever they want no matter if its legal or not. I strongly feel that the government has WAY too much rule over us anyway. They are slowly taking our rights away and making it more and more of a dictatorship. And the way they bring it across makes us think there doing something good and it slips right out from under us. They can listen in to anyones phone convo's now, they can tell each individual restraunt owner on whether or not they can allow smoking when THEY own the store! Rape victims arent allowed to use the word "rape or victim" in any of there testamony, Some states you cant even smoke in your own house, and they have banned sat. fats cause its bad for you. Well., I know sat fats are bad too but does that give the government the right to ban it, make it illegal just cause its bad?? Next will be potato chips and chocolate cause thats bad for you. People are getting fined 200 to 500 dollars each year if they dont weigh under a certain weight at work cause they are trying to be "healthy". They are seriously thinking about tsking away a parents kids from them if there kids weigh over a certain amount. You get were there coming from cause a mom who has a 2 yr old that weighs 250 pounds and lets there kid eat whatever is being neglectful, but to staple everyone with a certain criteria or else?? Think about it folks, the gov makes it sound good but think of the larger picture, if they do that then whats to stop them from doing more or going the next step later?? The speaker that the boy was asking the questions to didnt seem to have a problem with him at all, the cops should of left him alone, there was no sense in tasering the poor boy . Hew!!! Sorry...:) I get a little carried away when it comes to that type of stuff. I mean we have had past and present soldiers die for the cause of keeping us a free nation, to say what we want, do what we want as long as it isnt hurting anyone else and I think all that the gov is letting it slip away..slowly..but surely.

It's definately long overdue...I'm not holding my breath, though.

You're right...it was an angry reaction to a kid who was expressing his right to freedom of speech, although it appears he was expressing it out of turn and over the set time limit.  At least he's in the process of becoming an educated, and hopefully enlightened, adult and contributing member of this society..God knows we need some of those.  Those police officers should be fired and black-balled from ever being a member of any police body ever again.  And tazed just for good measure.

Jusy my humble opinion, of course.

Rosie

P.S.  I'm sure the pipe DOES make you look quite scholarly and distinguished...next time you're snapping pictures of yourself to send everyone to brighten their day, please snap one of you with your pipe!  ;-)

Hehe...oh boy! total power! Don't give ME that, God knows what I'd do! They'd catch me at 2 in the morning with a truck pulled up at Fort Knox;

"Uh...here to make a withdrawal? Really! It's okay! I'm THE PRESIDENT!!! Wait! Don't Taz me bro!!!"
Huh...I pictured that going better...with me ending up in the Caribbeans...now even my DAY dreams are against me!!!

If I'd been there, I would have called for a few students to file a written complaint with the University...then gotten another group to go down and file a civilian complaint/try to make a citizen's arrest against the police involved.(THAT would go over well, get us All thrown in jail!!! Great news clips, though.  At the least it would have embarrassed the hell out of them if done right.)

These cops were acting like thugs and bullies. When did the "police manual" change and they started treating people as "non-entities"?  It seems to be standard procedure now to dehumanize, humiliate and treat a person as an object when a cop deals with the public.

The whole thing looked to me to be an angry reaction to a smart *ssed kid who got scared and made them look like idiots when he broke away and ran back in. They weren't acting like police at that point, they were acting like a street gang. It was done purely as revenge.

We keep giving up freedoms in this country as a reaction to unfortunate incidents. The only good thing that can come of all this is HOPEFULLY the country is finally ready to swing back the other way. Although it's long overdue.

Hey, I'm ranting again! :) I guess this means I'm feeling better.

Been 7 days without a cigarette today, and I'm only using the pipe like twice a day now. I'd have stopped totally, but I think it makes me look scholarly and distinguished!!! heh heh...

Believe me i know about being out numbered and getting unfair treatment from the blue, i have had  many encounters with both on duty cops and even getting into fights with off duty cops on a drunken binge and thinking they are above the law and playing tough guys in the night clubs just to show off for the ladys. It makes my blood boil when i see that kind by police force like yesterday. When i see force being used like that i see gang members that get to wear blue uniforms and a badge. I had a Rodney King experience back in my 20's and was beat silly from the top of my head and all the way down my back side with billy clubs by five cops because i kept asking what i did wrong as he was and why they wanted to hand cuff . Was pulled over for a ROUTINE SEARCH.  I have to feel the lumps in my head every time i comb my hair. It's sad but since 911 the blue gets an extra green light to use force in the name of terrorism.

Not to mention folks that tasers have "killed" some folks, literally....I think perhaps they should be given to the criminals, in a bake sale........Attn. Mafia guys, thousands of new tasers, some barely used, for sale cheap.

Heck, if I were in the audience during any political rally, debate, whatever and I got the floor, I WOULD be tasered too.  Those guys, both parties, don't like honest questions that need to be answered, because its hard for them to be honest............

SAVAS FOR PRESIDENT.........SAVAS FOR PRESIDENT........YAY.

Since when is "not shutting up" a danger to police??  He was talking...not biting them.  And yes, he is an activist...so were/are many of our greatest minds in this country.  His ideas may be immature and not well formed at this point, but he's on the right track.  We need youth who are willing to buck the system.  This is the catapult for change, and God kinows we need some in this country.

IBKleen...a kid from Florida State got dragged out of an assembly where John Kerry was speaking and answering questions...he asked some tough questions and "over-extended" his time with the mic.  As the cops were dragging him off, Kerry asked them to stop and let him answer the guy's questions.  They DID NOT stop and, after six of them wrestled him to ground, (yes, he was running his mouth and asking why he was being arrested) he begged them not to taser him and then they did anyway...twice.  Six cops holding one guy down and felt the need to taser him at that point.  Sickening.

This young man has the cameras follow him around and he already has been on the internet so i guess he got the action and results he was after. Still dont know about using the taser when your on the ground, i think it's dead wrong but they told him it was coming if he did not shut up, a sock in his mouth would of worked as well.

My tv is on 24/7. I sleep like ****! I saw OJ got nailed. I saw Phil Spector got a hang jury. Oil is getting ready to hit 82 bucks a barrel and the dow futures are up again from "Uncle Ben" lowering the interest rates.

So who the hell got tasered?

This young man is an activist on his campus and has now garnered a national audience...good for him.  It will be interesting to see how he uses his "fame".

The public school system in this country is in place to indoctrinate our youth to American ideals and provide a basic (and in today's society, a VERY basic) education.  Our universities are in place to provide a non-government regulated (ideally) REAL education and encourage our youth to question the "status quo" and become free-thinkers...an essential aspect of being eduated and learned and preserving our democratic society.

That being said...the guy was doing exactly what he should have been doing...asking Kerry some tough questions.  If politicians and the groups that are responsible for booking them on speaking tours are going to schedule events at universities, they should be well prepared for radical thinkers asking questions that shed unfavorable light on the speaker.  It is his challenge to answer the questions and explain his actions or positions.  Kerry seemed to be fine with this, so who summoned the "Thugs in Blue" to take this kid down?  And did it really take six of them?  And if it did, wasn't that enough of them to restrain and cuff one guy?  Did they really need to taser him?  Of course not!

Tasers should be reserved for times when cops are in imminent danger of bodily harm from a person and deadly force is not warranted.  And even then it should be used with caution.  As a sufferer of a ventricular tachycardia heart conduction disorder, it is quite likely that being tasered, as they tasered that student, would be enough to cause my heart to stop.  In my case, they may as well pull a pistol out and shoot me...for asking questions at at student assembly.  Wow.

Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox here...it just pisses me off!

I am sure the "Bro don't tas me"  t-shirts are on sale now on campus. He is on the ground already with 3 or 4 police holding down then ZAP, the female cop held it on him for a good 5 sec. Then he moan from pain and within 30 sec, ZAP, he got it again from the nice lady in blue for another 5 sec. The poor kid got nailed because he would not shut up when he was on the ground but they could of put something over his head but no, ZAP works better for the nice ppl in the blue. Did you hear the kid asking what is he being charged with as thay were taking him out, one of the cops said insighting a riot, and the kid repeated INSIGHTING A RIOT??? WOW. Glad i was not there, i would have ZAP marks all over me in defense of the kid.
