So far so good - Day 5 - thoughts on Darvon N?

Just visited the doctor since the withdrawals are so bad, even on the clonidine and was taking tramadol as prescribed.  The doctor prescribed me 4 Darvon N-100 for the stomach cramps and diaherria and told me that should help for a day or two and won't prolong anything.  He said in studies tylenol is stronger, and that it is a very mild opioid.  I also read online where they reference prescribing this for withdrawal off of stronger opioids (hydro, oxy), but that since it's only a partial agonist, it won't help with it all but just some of it and take the edge off of it.

What do you think?  Anyone had these before?  I only have 4 of them, and I'm seeing the doctor tomorrow again so he can check on me and I should have one pill left for him to see (pill count).  He said that I should be approaching the end of the big physical withdrawals and it should start tapering off day 5 (later today).  That made me feel better, anyway...and the fact that he wants to help me.

Thank you so much.  I just got back from the store and got the amino acid protocol stuff that I can take.  I just took my first batch, so we'll see if it helps!  I can't take some of them because I take 10mg of lexapro, but the vitamins and supplements should be really beneficial.

I think it's becuase I'm through the major part of the withdrawals (according to the Dr.) and they are such a weak opiod that they simply provide a little comfort to the bowels and stomach, but it is only a partial opioid agonist, so it doesn't slow it down or reverse progress.  Again, there are several articles online that talk about how Darvon (and Tramadol) are used to assist with opioid withdrawal.  Believe me...I wouldn't take one if I thought it was going to slow things down or increase the withdrawal time...I was very clear about that with him.  I took one about an hour ago and feel nothing.  My stomach might be not as rumbly and I don't know on the big D yet, but I feel slightly hungry for once and I'm hoping I can get some food down.  Just started the amino protocols, too.

They can write a script for any amount they want to.  I've had all kinds of weird amounts before.  21, 24, 11, 15, etc.  Just depends on the dosing directions.

Are they darvon or darvacet?  the darvacet has 500 mg of tylenol per pill and is one of the reasons it is kinda hard to abuse it...but people can...i have taken it and it does not do anything for me buzz wise....not very strong for pain either...but it may take the edge off...good luck to you

Yes, took Immodium and it helped for the big D, but not the cramps for some reason.

They are generic darvacet-N 100.  100/650  Pill number is 5113.  I took one, and the stomach felt well enough to eat after about an hour.  I'm seeing the doctor again tomorrow for a follow-up.  I've quit the Tramadol and the Ambien, too.  AVISG will be proud of me!  lol

I guess things have changed.  I remember when I had to have a dental procedure, and the dentist just thought I was a nut, so she prescribed Valium for a one-time visit. I think it was 6 and I asked why? and the pharma said they have a minimum amount they have to prescribe? and, the same for the hydro they prescribed.  why 10 for maybe a couple days of pain?  maybe it was just the pharma I was using at the time.  I thought that was weird too........that was 12 years ago......so, things do change I guess.  I bet they reamed you on what you paid for them too.  Charged you that minimum price for them.

Best of Luck,
Nauty.................

I've got a health and prescription plan from my employer.  The Darvon generic were .67 cents for all four.  I used to get 120 hydro per month for $2.41!

Just be careful with the Tylenols. I assume they are T3's. That was my doc when I couldn't get anything else.  I would take 6 - 8 at a time to get the codeine buzz. They are very addictive.
