i have been using soma all through my detox. yes, you can get dependent on it, but i dont think its' addictive because you dont get the same affect like you do from opiates. It will knock you on yur butt at first, but you will adjust to it and can take more, but its just a very temporary euphoria and a deterrent because all you want to do is sleep on it if you take more than prescribed.
Nauty.................
Thanks for your posts! I guess he prescribed them for my H/A's cuz they start out as tension H/A's then turn into a full blown migraine. I am wondering if this medication (soma) would help me thru w/d's, like perhaps help me sleep at night? I am just worried about my addictive nature. All though my drug of choice is opiates....I do not like any other high, so maybe I will be ok. Or is it the same as an opiate high? If that is the case, I would be in trouble if I took them. Thanks again!
Soma is not addictive, in and of itself, but you can easily become dependent on it. At that point, I guess you could say addicted.
I have never heard of a doctor prescribing Soma for headaches?? It is a muscle relaxer. Did he want your brain to go to sleep? I can't imagine what he was thinking.
I have a prescription for it, but I rarely take them. I was prescribed Soma for muscle spasms associated with the herniated disks I have. It does work to relax the muscles, but it knocks me silly. I can only take it before bed. I don't like the way it makes me feel, but then again, I didn't like the way pain pills made me feel either, so I am sure I am in the minority with that one.
If I were you, I would ask the doctor why he prescribed a muscle relaxant for headaches.
Just be careful with them.
i am sorry, i posted on ultram not soma. so let me address soma. yes, it is addictive causing relaxation and euphoria. most combine with opiates to intensify this effect. i have seen many lives ruined by soma. read some prior posts regarding this medication. i can think of several that have posted. sorry for the confusion. my cat woke me at 3am and i am goofy.:)
tramadol or ultram is indeed an opiate and addictive. it was originally marketed as non addictive to physicians. they are virtually unaware of the nature of this medication. i had to bring in pdr information and articles including partial posts from this forum to convince physicians working with me that it was an opiate. sometimes you have to protect yourself and your addictive nature from naivity in the profession. you were wise to ask. good luck to you.
