Soma addiction

I have a problem and desperately need help. I do not have a doctor that I feel I can confide in to find a solution and I know I read on this website somewhere a combination of vitamins, etc. that help with the withdrawals when coming off certain meds. I have been taking, and you are not reading this wrong, about 20-30 350mg soma daily along with 10 mg 4x daily of hydrocodone. I know my problem is not the hydrocodone because when I take it alone without the soma it does nothing for my back pain. The combination is the only thing that works and I have begun taking way too many of the soma. I know this but don't know how to stop as the pain in my back is debilitating. I hurt it a year ago at work and they took away my work comp benefits in Sept after only 7 months. The hassle from my company has gotten to the point of harrassment and I find I take more Soma, which I know is my way of escaping all this. Does anyone know how to get off these and find something to deal  with the terrible back pain.

I went through the same thing. Take ativan 4x day and ask your doc to switch u to robaxin 500 mg 4 x a day. Also get some suboxone for opiates. I also had seroquel for sleep. Worked wonders! This is a fool proof deal.  This is the only way to go.... Good luck

IM IN NEED OF HELP!!!!!!!
My boyfriends mom is HIGHLY addicted to SOMA'S. I am sick and tired of coming to there house and she is all messed up on them. I sit and watch here shake cannot talk and she is like a zombie. My boyfriend and his father said, sometimes they think it would be better off for her not to be around. (DEAD)
They have been battling with this for over 13 years! She has been in and out of the hospital from her having seizures and falling over and its just ridiculous. Im not enganged to there son, but hopefully in December i will be, and I sat her down and said If I become part of this family and have your grandkids I am not leaving you alone with them. I want my mother in law to be there for my kids and be "functional" She is taking at LEAST 15-20 a DAY!! and shes only 150lbs...
My boyfriend and I are thinking about sending her to rehab, even though she has been in rehab twice before but only for week time span. Something like this needs to be longer and she needs help.
The question i have for all of you guys is HOW CAN I HELP, rehab (we cannot afford) Is there a way that you can sign up to get free help because insurance will not cover this. I need answers, my boyfriend is ready to dis-own his mother, her husband is ready to leave. Im not going to watch them get hurt any more because of this stupid pills.
PLUS, it shouldn't even be legal to buy this god dam things over the internet. There should be a law stating this. She has almost died a couple of times because of these dam things. WHOEVER IS USING THESE PILLS BETTER GET THERE ACT TOGETHER OR YOU CAN SAY GOOD-BYE TO YOUR LOVE ONES, BECAUSE YOU WILL PAY THE CONSEQUENCES!!

PLEASE HELP WITH ANYTHING YOU THINK I SHOULD DO

At the worst of my soma use many, many years ago........the most I took was 10-12 a day.  I can't even imagine 20-30.  You are certainly escaping your pain because you probably not aware you have a back to pain you.

With my exp.  Soma can't really be tapered, although it should be at the rate you are taking it.  It is Extremely difficult to impossible, but you have to do it!  That is the only way.  There is nothing to substitute it, or make it easier......Soma is addictive "mentally" not physically in my experience, and I have just stopped at 12 a day with absolutely no problem physically---only mentally.  I would not be responsible in suggesting you just stop but, I also know how difficult it is to taper.......with some things its just all-or-nothing, and unfortunately Soma is one of those little buggars.........

I wish you strength in tapering.......Soma in the longterm aand at that dose will kill the lining of your stomach.......

luv,
nauty...........

The supplements you can get at the health food store. As for the Valium, well, I have a hard time telling you to take that. It is addictive. It is recommended that you only take it for 3 days, so please be careful. Your doctor can prescribe that.

Good Luck and keep us posted!

The Thomas Recipe is also in my profile, click on my name and you will see it. Its a list of natural supplements/vitamins that will help, not take away, some withdrawal pain. They will make it a little easier to go c/t but will by no means take the w.d away. That is alot of Soma. And I know what you mean, I was taking about 15-20 80mg Oxy's and people didn't believe me. But when you are addicted for so long your body just become dependant upon those high doses. I would start to feel w.d the very same day if I took some oxy's in the AM, and didn;'t take any more by say 1 or 2pm, I would be in w/d already. Look, we are here for you,. but you need to get some help a.s.a.p. That is a high amount. Do you have children? I am assuming you are getting them off the internet? Does your spouse take them as well?

THOMAS RECIPE

If you can't take time off to detox, I recommend you follow a taper regimen using your drug of choice or suitable alternate -- the slower the taper, the better.

For the Recipe, You'll need:

1. Valium (or another benzodiazepine such as Klonopin, Librium, Ativan or Xanax). Of these, Valium and Klonopin are best suited for tapering since they come in tablet form. Librium is also an excellent detox benzo, but comes in capsules, making it hard to taper the dose. Ativan or Xanax should only be used if you can't get one of the others.

2. Imodium (over the counter, any drug or grocery store).

3. L-Tyrosine (500 mg caps) from the health food store.

4. Strong wide-spectrum mineral supplement with at least 100% RDA of Zinc, Phosphorus, Copper, Magnesium and Potassium (you may not find the potassium in the same supplement).

5. Vitamin B6 caps.

6. Access to hot baths or a Jacuzzi (or hot showers if that's all that's available).

How to use the recipe:

Start the vitamin/mineral supplement right away (or the first day you can keep it down), preferably with food. Potassium early in the detox is important to help relieve RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome). Bananas are a good source of potassium if you can't find a supplement for it.

Begin your detox with regular doses of Valium (or alternate benzo). Start with a dose high enough to produce sleep. Before you use any benzo, make sure you're aware of how often it can be safely taken. Different benzos have different dosing schedules. Taper your Valium dosage down after each day. The goal is to get through day 4, after which the worst WD symptoms will subside. You shouldn't need the Valium after day 4 or 5.

During detox, hit the hot bath or Jacuzzi as often as you need to for muscle aches. Don't underestimate the effectiveness of hot soaks. Spend the entire time, if necessary, in a hot bath. This simple method will alleviate what is for many the worst opiate WD symptom.

Use the Imodium aggressively to stop the runs. Take as much as you need, as often as you need it. Don't take it, however, if you don't need it.

At the end of the fourth day, you should be waking up from the Valium and experiencing the beginnings of the opiate WD malaise. Upon rising (empty stomach), take the L-Tyrosine. Try 2000 mgs, and scale up or down, depending on how you feel. You can take up to 4,000 mgs. Take the L-Tyrosine with B6 to help absorption. Wait about one hour before eating breakfast. The L-Tyrosine will give you a surge of physical and mental energy that will help counteract the malaise. You may continue to take it each morning for as long as it helps. If you find it gives you the "coffee jitters," consider lowering the dosage or discontinuing it altogether. Occasionally, L-Tyrosine can cause the runs. Unlike the runs from opiate WD, however, this effect of L-Tyrosine is mild and normally does not return after the first hour. Lowering the dosage may help.

Continue to take the vitamin/mineral supplement with breakfast.

As soon as you can force yourself to, get some mild exercise such as walking, cycling, swimming, etc. This will be hard at first, but will make you feel considerably better.

Could you please, please tell me the Thomas recipe? I am almost out of my last bottle and honestly, if my husband finds out I have bought anymore I am  not sure what he will do. No, he is not violent, but at the end of his rope too. If it works, I will do it. My family deserves better. I honestly feel I have been selfish in dealing with this the way I have. Many of you mentioned destructive things that have happened. Fortunately, none of those have happened to me, but I have embarrassed my family before and it breaks my heart that they no longer trust me; always asking me if I took something if I am just looking out with a  blank face and honestly haven't taken anything. Sometimes it pisses me off, but I do understand why they would ask. They don't trust me. My son is in high school and begs me not to take anything if I am coming to an event. Please, suggestions, help I need to get off these pills no matter how much pain I have in my back. Thank you. Liza

I couldnt agree with Kleen and hopsing any more strongly. I have used soma and I have lost friends that abused them. The line between high and die is just too close. My back is also trashed from a hard life (parachute crashes, car wrecks, and boat accident) but I am looking at non pill ways to deal with it. There are some out there. You can stop the soma and I feel that you should.

20-30 somas. How do you function. I had a friend who used them regularly and if he took more than ten he was a zombie. He almost died because his tongue swelled up so bad he almost suffocated. Had another friend who took 14 in one day and wrecked 2 cars in one day and when she got to work she passed out and had to call an ambulance. You are playing with fire. Please please be careful.

A lot of the pain you are going to feel is from the withdrawals. My husband put his foot down with me and I realized I had to stop putting the pills first in my life. This is your warning. You can do this. You have to realize the first few weeks are hard as hell but the pain will slowly get better and once you are off the meds for a couple months you will see the light at the end of the tunnel. Aren't you sick of worrying about having enough pills, getting the pills all the **** that goes with addiction. Free yourself. Anything worth having takes hard work. I'm 11 months clean and didn't see that till I was 4-6 months into my recovery. I gotta go do the Mom thing too. talk later and stay close to this forum it will be a big help to you. I promise you can do it. Think how proud your husband will be of you and how proud you will be of yourself.

What is the Thomas Recipe? I have been buying so many of these off the internet, my husband says he won't leave me but our debt is life or death. When he says that I think ,'Fine, death then, because I cannot live with the pain and do all I have to do to take care of our home and children and him with out something. I recently started seeing a therapists because of the depression.Anything anyone can offer will help.I want to stop because I know we cannot afford for me to keep buying the somas I go through  a bottle of 180 every 9 days or so. If I don't respond right back I am doing the house and mom thing but please offer any suggestions because truly, for my quality of life to go up I have to get off these. I don't know how I will deal with the pain, but the fights I have with my husband over the money spent on these can't be worse. Thanks for the support.

What Mary says is great. You need to get off all the meds and then reevaluate your pain. You need to let your doctor know you felt like you were taking too many somas and too dependent on them and I know how addictive Hydro is so don't fool yourself. You don't have to put it in the word addiction to your doctor just tell him/her that you felt it could become a problem and you went off all meds for a while. If you are still in pain at that point see what your doctor recommends. Doctors know how addictive soma is. Mine will not ever prescribe it. Tell your doctor you don't want to be on medication that is addictive
